Collie really felt the gravity of the long walk here. Maybe the tiredness and longing simply caught up to him and started to hurt, or trying to help Rank but ending up seeing his death instead took a toll on him.

He is also maybe just trying to distance himself from the screams because he can’t bear it. Maybe all of the above.

something i've been thinking about for a while now. and i think it's beautiful. especially after finishing the book , which had roughly 3 cannon characters of color (out of 100...). i could go on my whole rant about how important it is that young men of color are properly represented in media that's trying to make commentary on the vietnam war (or any war, for that matter...) but ill hold my tounge.
