Some fun squares I crocheted recently 🧶☀️
Patterns from the 1889 2nd edition of the Tose Lace Knitting Book, charted for modern knitters
(...I really don't want to hunt that up typo just now. I'll fix it when I fix it. The Tose Lace Kitting Book, indeed.)
Which is beyond the point. The point is, the patterns are live! Go forth and knit pretty laces!
would it be possible to make a spiral?
Oh sure! I mean, sort of! It depends on quite what you mean by "spiral!"
There are no "true" curves when designing for interlocking/double filet crochet — you're always connecting points on a square grid (e.g. graph paper), normally with a very limited palette of additional angles.
A basic "square spiral" or key motif like the above (made with Interlocking Pattern Maker — a web app by two Friends of Patches that anyone interested in designing their own patterns must bookmark!) is no problem, but when you start trying to incorporate curves or achieve specific geometries, things can get kind of loopy:
That said, you might be surprised by much harsh-looking spirals like those soften up once you actually crochet them:
You can also use diagonals in the ground colour (Colour B) to blunt sharp angles in the outline colour (Colour A), which could be useful in a spiral! I've done a bit of that in the very centre of Cinnamon Bun, but you could take that approach further for something like this:
a fun thing about me is that I believe children are full human people with agency and interiority who deserve autonomy and respect. trans ch
I simply would like there to be fewer dead teenagers.
This is so cool! I think a finger knit strand could also be neat as the extra chunky yarn.
