Laika

A skylit funeral graced above a big blue ball

I shall throw it for you and watch you catch it

With a tail wagging and dancing among the stars

A patron saint of one-way trips

Let the moon kiss you goodnight and the sun wish you good morning

Let the galaxies paint you a blanket to keep you warm

Let your paws help the planets on their orbit

And grace our astronauts as they come to say hello

The sun shines in your name

And tears shed on that big blue ball call out for you

Your last sight was fear, but may the universe show you joy

An Old Record

An old record dances

To a song from before you

A grain gently placed over the melody

With a grit in a once soft voice

A sound you have never heard before

But a sound you will always remember

And one that feels familiar

A faint sound of a woman in a dress

Dancing to the needles spin

Her feet tapping against the floor with every step

Long before your feet stood there

You dance to the rhythm of her favorite song

Without ever knowing her name

A symphony of memories flow between you following the tempo

You can picture the life she may have once lived

But you will never see her face

She watches you from above

A wide grin draping her face

Unknowingly dancing next to you

As she sees the song she once loved

Still being adored long after she last played it
