Hawk,
I love a little rapid fire! Always fun to give people a quick question so no time to think!
Cauliflower is just so bland and when people decide to church it up with buffalo sauce…you can’t fool me I know it’s just white mush under that zesty goodness! I rather just eat the chicken wing!
Ooo not British and not American! Intriguing!
I think we are doing great!
Favorite movie The Parent Trap. Favorite show Gossip Girl. Favorite book well I can’t remember the name but it was fabulous and about two single who met on vacation. It was giving white lotus without the murder!
So profession? Student?
- Cruel
@habitualhawk
Cruel,
It definitely does give a little insight a bit more quickly.
Church it up... I'll admit I've never heard that phrasing. But I suppose I can't blame you there either. I'd never thought to combine cauliflower that way.
Oh no, definitely not a student. Long past that stage for me. I'd say my profession but I do think it'd be a dead giveaway to my identity so I'll have to keep that to myself for now. But I do have a job that keeps me pretty busy.
I don't know if I have one favorite movie I can pick out specifically. But I did really like the shows Mad Men and The Crown. I guess I like some of that historical stuff. I don't think I've seen White Lotus yet but I heard it was good.
What about you? Are you a student? Or working?
~ habitualhawk ~
@cruelolivine
Hawk,
You’ve never heard church it up before?! Maybe it’s an American saying? Or maybe it’s just something I say!
Not a student. Perfect.
I think I’d give myself away if I mention my profession. Isn’t that fabulous though. We are known for what we do.
I just recently went back to school for some high education. I also have a few jobs but they are more career choices and not really a job…job. I don’t work for a living I just work be successful.
You need to watch white lotus! I just put on the first season for the second time last night!
Are you going to this ball? I really hope to see you there. I was very happy to see your name on my email this morning Hawk.

I honestly don’t even have a vision! I just picked two things I liked! Or well two things that I’d want to be seen as. I don’t know much about either of those things.
Only animals I know much about are horses and even say that is pushing it!
Wait…isn’t Australia where they have giant every animals like the save of basketballs or something?! Also I can’t look at a kangaroo and not think something is suspicious! Why do they look like a person is in there…maybe I am losing it!
-C
@explosivedoughnut
Dear Cruel,
Well I still think those ideas sound neat! You still got a much more imaginative way of looking at it than me.
Really? Those are the animals I like the best! Have you spent a lot of time around horses? Which breeds are your favorites?
They got some pretty interesting animals down there, yeah. Like platypuses and koalas, and of course kangaroos. It is kinda strange how they've got that pouch. But I do think they keep their little ones in there for a while after they're born. Maybe they hide something else in there later on? I've never really heard one way or the other.

D,
I always rode a chestnut growing up. I don’t do much riding anymore but I do love them. Luckily we live in Swynlake and we have a fabulous stable. Plus I am friends with one of the people who work very there - I consider myself lucky!
I forgot they have a pouch! A marsupial!
So Doughnutt are you going to the ball? I’m hoping to see you there.

I am so happy to be paired with you! I am hope I’m not too forward here. 😅
Messaging so quickly but I really am trying to take as much as I can from this experience!
So I know the lovely organizers have come up with prompts and they are great I also think just going with the flow works too. Also we can pick and choose what ones we like!
Maybe we can get the easy stuff out of the way!
Single. Looking for love. Love ambition. Favorite colors are cool tones. Life is busy but I always make time for my friends. If I were an animal I’d be…a Doberman with a sparkling crystal collar - yes very specific I know. American. Family does not live here. Hate cauliflower!

Cruel,
not too forward at all!
I understand and I appreciate you reaching out first. But sure, if we want to speed run a few things to get to know each other better by all means.
Also single, though I sort of hope most are that signed up for this. Looking for love as well, a true partnership. I guess my favorite color might be red. If I were an animal... I'm not sure. My symbol right now is a hawk so I guess I'll settle on that. Not American. Not British either. My family also does not live here. And I can't say I hate any food really, but I can understand why cauliflower might not appeal.
How are we doing so far?

Luminous! You know what I had no idea it was a rock! I thought it was a fun play on olives which I love and making it girly! Hate to say I am not much of a geologist! I am here because I spend way too much time doing everything else I realized I only had a few people in my phone who would make a good friday night date! Plus I love to be involved! What brought you here? -Cruel @luminousfungi
Dear Cruel,
You don't seem cruel at all like the name would suggest. I'm glad that that's the case.
Olives are great, but very contentious and polarizing. People either love or hate them.
A good friday night date can be difficult to find sometimes. But sometimes it can be right down the road and under your nose!
I guess that's a bit kind of why I joined.
But also I love meeting new people and building community.
If we're going off those prompts, I think I should ask you what your kind of first date would be like. What would a person do on your friday night date?
Warm wishes,
LuminousFungi
@cruelolivine
L,
I don’t think anything provokes me to be cruel. I don’t do it to be that way I just come off that way.
I’ve been trying to be less cruel and more understanding and genuine but we are all works in progress!
Perfect Friday night dates really could be anything! I love a spontaneous under your nose date too. I think if we were to stay in town for a date the perfect one could be - grabbing coffee and going to the stables for a trail ride. Charcuterie by the lake with some adlib type word game.
Or really I am an out to dinner kind of person! So one hint of a reservation and I am already planning my outfit!
So what about you??

D,
If I were an animal…I would like to think I am some fabulous Doberman with a diamond collar. Or a butterfly with sparkly purple wings but I am not really sure what kind of butterfly that would be!
I know for sure I wouldn’t be a bird! I am always scared they are going to swoop down and build a nest in my hair!!
I’d love to take a real vacation! Somewhere with a beach! Lately I have just been traveling for work. Or what I consider work! Paris for an event. London for a meeting. The states for the holidays.
D you might have to hold me to a vacation so I actually take one!
What about you! Animal? Vacation?
-C
@explosivedoughnut
Dear Cruel,
I like those choices! You definitely got a much clearer picture of what you'd be than me. A butterfly with sparkly purple wings sounds real pretty! Don't think I've ever seen one like that, but it'd be neat!
I wouldn't wanna be a bird either. Trying to fly would probably scare me too much!
Traveling to Paris and London sounds nice! And that's just for work? Wow, you must have a pretty nifty job! I don't get to travel for work, but I don't think I'd really want to. I'm pretty content with just staying around town for now.
Oh definitely! Sounds like you really deserve a trip for yourself, so I'll try to make sure you get one!
I guess for an animal I'd probably pick something like an ox. Sturdy and good at working hard. And for a vacation, I'd probably pick Australia. There's a lot of unique landscapes and animals and a lot of open space.

The good thing about us Americans though we can adapt! I also have really lucked out! There are a few people I knew from back home before I made the move!
Ope! We are just talking ourselves in circles here!
So close to the edge of exposing ourselves! I think that means we just need to talk about something else!!
Are your days busy? Or nights busy? I feel like I am busy from the moment I wake up until I get home. None stop.

Dear Cruel,
Yeah, you're right. Though I don't think I've ever been too good at adapting. Oh really? That is lucky! But I've met up with a friend of mine again too, so I guess we've both lucked out!
Seems like that for sure! And we don't wanna expose ourselves, so how about we go with the latest prompt? "If someone described you as an animal what would the animal be and why?"
Oh definitely my days are more busy! I'm usually hard at work all day! I get to relax a bit a night. Sounds like you've got a pretty full plate, then! Do you think you'll get a chance to have a break or a vacation? Maybe go somewhere nice and warm?

You’re American too?! You’ll have to excuse me as I add this to my notes! I am doing my best to not get too in the weeds and research who my email partners are! I just feel like I have had to meet all Americans! Ooo the mystery is just so sexy isn’t it!
Your dad sounds like a good one. I think many people are lucky to have a parent in general who wants the best for them. My parents mean well but I think if they had their own way they would have me move back immediately.
So wait…we are both runaway brides?! Have you seen that movie?! How do you think we can fix that. Maybe it’s time we stop running? Running is the worst!
Donut…I totally get what you’re saying. I’d hold your hands in solidarity right now if I could! People always have expectations of me and when I don’t fulfill them I am the bad guy. Can you tell me why they think that? Or is that too exposing?
-C
@explosivedoughnut
Dear Cruel,
Yep, I am! Oh boy, I couldn't even think to try and figure out who all I'm talking to! But that is a pretty interesting coincidence if you're mostly talking to Americans. Seems like there's more of us around here than we think! Yeah, the mystery does add some excitement to things! But I can't help worrying that I won't be able to live up to that excitement once we all find out who's who.
Yeah, he was. I miss him a lot. He tried to put me on the straight and narrow, but I ended up making the same mistakes he did anyway. I'm sure your parents miss you, but I bet they understand you gotta make your own way too. I think all parents are like that in their own way.
Uh no, I haven't seen that movie, sorry. But yeah, I think I get the analogy! I don't really know how to fix it. Not running probably would do the trick, but it's kinda hard when you get scared of people seeing you for what you really are. I guess we just need to try and not be too scared of letting people in?
I know, it's hard when you don't live up to what people expect. Um, I'm trying to think how I can say it without giving away too much! But I think I might spill too many beans if I try to explain! Sorry!

Olivine,
Yes! Budapest! Tickets were cheap so I said "book" and it was amazing. A very underrated city. Eastern Europe is great if you want the Europe experience on a budget. Eastern Europe, The Balkans, The Baltics, really underrated. And Portugal is budget Spain and the food is better. But! Hungary. The food? Top tier. So overlooked! The castle I toured was gorgeous, really interesting museums, it's a great city.
Oh why learn when you have people to do it for you? I'm not that fortunate haha, but if I were? you'd never catch me sweating over a stove again.

I hate to say it but I think of Turkey and I think of cheap plastic surgery and hair plugs! I in no way think you went there for those things but that’s where my mind goes! How horrible I know!
Oh oh! You’ve been all over!! I heard Portugal was fabulous. I have tried ummm what’s it called with the rice and seafood? Starts with a P! 🙃 I am your typical American and only go to the typical tourist spots! I really could be more adventurous.
Happy you understand! There are plenty of people who turn their nose up at me! All because I have the financial capabilities to order food and get whatever I want made!

I don't even give myself the chance to meet the right person most of the time. I run away or judge to so hard I talk myself into dropping whoever is on my roster.

Dear Cruel,
I'm actually from America too! But yeah, I usually assume everyone else is from here too because I always feel like the odd one out. Oh you should hear my accent! I'm lucky this is being done by writing because otherwise I'd be giving myself away the moment I opened my mouth!
Yeah, I've always thought it's a good thing to be open. I'm not good with trying to bottle things up. So I think it's good to speak your mind. I mean, you probably don't want to offend people! But just saying things like it is seems right to me. My dad always wanted me to be true to myself, so I think it's important not to pretend things are ok when they're not.
I'd hope I know if I meet the right person, but I'll probably be too nervous to really act when the time comes, if it ever does. Running away sounds a lot like me too.
I don't think that's shallow. I worry about how people view me all the time. I don't want to say anything too revealing, so let's just say that I think lots of people expect me to act one way and they're probably surprised when I don't.

First instinct is to introduce myself but I am pretty sure that is against the rules!
Our lovely ring leader of this event has given us prompts. Thank god right! I usually love a well planned first date. If it’s someone have chatted with. Now a blind meet up or something where you have a little meet cute - there’s nothing wrong with a little walk in the park or grabbing a cocktail!
What about you Badger!
Cruel
@baffledbadger
Cruel,
Yes, I'd be worried about breaking the rules! Can't be ruining the illusion too quickly! I suppose we must march on, introductionless!
I love to cater a date to the person I'm meeting up with. I do tend to describe myself as a bit of a hopeless romantic so making sure the right food or right activity is planned is important to me. This is the first Blind Date type activity I've joined. It's exciting, certainly!
I think I prefer anything that involves some quality time, some food, and the ability to talk! I am big on just being together in whatever way one can be, you know?
But now you've got me thinking about cocktails. What's your favorite? Mine's probably some sort of margarita or something.
Yours Faithfully, Badger
@cruelolivine
Badger -
I’ve been on one foul bad dad. A girlfriend came a long with me to be my security blanket. I went and met up with the scum bag and she waited by the bar. I honestly think he was expecting to gain some sort of recognition for just being seen with me. Also his cream color polo did not match his khaki slacks. Whoever matches cream and khaki is far too vanilla for me! My girlfriend watched for my signal and immediately called with a faux emergency. I ditched the sucker the second I could.
After some research he was a social climber and I believe committed some sort of tax fraud just last year.
Not to scare you away. I just love a good story and it’s fitting I think!
It’s nice to hear the want to cater. It’s the little things when it really matters!
Well skinny margaritas are quite fabulous. I love just about anything with grapefruit in it! Have you had a Paloma? It’s like a marg but with grapefruit and I honestly think some fizzy lemon lime soda!

Thanks, I'm glad you think so. Yeah, I'm probably a little too open a lot of the time, so it's nice that you think that's a good thing!
Oh sure, I wouldn't want you to do that! I actually don't have much of a track record with dating, so I guess we're coming at this from two different directions. I've got a few nice fantasies myself, so I don't see anything wrong with that. And maybe you are but just haven't met the right person?

Gotcha, I won't pry too much on that then. I wouldn't want to give the game away just yet. Where's the fun in that?
I honestly just got out of a kind of bad situation so I'm nor sure that I'll find "love" in that way but I think it can still be good to put myself out there. I guess I'd say hesitant but... hopeful?
Is that corny? Probably corny.
We can definitely form a haters club, though. We'll bring spicy & sour snacks to the meetings.

Also not corny!!

I actually don't remember the last time I had a doughnut either! I'm not really big on sweets like that. I like more of a plain breakfast, like oatmeal. I don't think I've ever had a long john. Are they good?
Well, I guess I'll say I'm hoping to make a connection. It'd probably sound real corny to say I'm looking for love, right? And feel free to overwhelm me! I'd like to hear about you! I'm a little overwhelmed by this whole thing anyway, so I'd rather be overwhelmed by your story!

I really don’t have much a story. At least one I can’t share without totally exposing myself! I will say I have a horrible track record with dating. I really have given up. I have some typically trope fantasies but I don’t think I’m a romance kind of girl. Unfortunately.
