Title: Back Again (bts; rapmonster)
Summary: Procrastination at best. Namjoon wears Nike’s to reinforce his will.
You’ve got this.
Namjoon’s fingers find the need to be busy and he keeps smoothing the creases on his polo tee as he makes his way down the road.
It’s okay. Nobody knows what’s gonna happen, but you never know ‘til you try.
The sky’s already dark and the street lights are lit. It was… What, seven? His Nike’s tread down a path all too familiar. He knows this place all too well. There was a café, followed by a 7-Eleven. Next was a small bakery (whose ahjumma always gave Namjoon extras to help him “grow into a taller, manlier man”) and then there was a bubble tea stand… hmm? What happened to Gong Cha?
The sign and the menu was still there, but the hole-in-the-wall stand was empty, and the lights were all off.
Namjoon clicked his tongue at the loss. He liked the milk tea there.
His feet stopped at the entrance of an apartment complex. The apartment complex.
There was a fancy black car parked outside. A man was in a nice blazer and he had on a pair of Timberlands. Namjoon gave a silent nod of appreciation at the man’s choice of footwear.
Mr. Nice Shoes was texting on his phone, and on his free hand was a nice bouquet of flowers. Namjoon smiled. It reminded him of a time when…
He shook his head, as if it shake away all his sorry feelings.
Just do it.
He presses the lift call button and psyches himself into his agenda again.
He looks at his shoes.
Just do it.
The lift door opens with a ping.
Namjoon walks in and presses the ‘14’ button.
The lift doors close.
As number on the display goes up, Namjoon busies his feet by rocking back and forth, and his hands stuffed into his pockets. The pressure in his ears makes it uncomfortable, but it is nothing compared to the uncertain feeling that sits heavily in his stomach.
“14” flashes on the display in bold red and the door opens with a happy (almost mocking) ping.
“1408…” Namjoon finds himself murmuring as he walks down the hall. His hands started to feel clammy and he feels like now isn’t a bad time to turn back.
He looks back down at his Nike’s.
Just do it.
And so he will.
He finds himself staring at the gold numbers 1408 a little too long. There is a doorbell on the side, but he hesitates.
Just do it, Namjoon… Come on.
He wipes his sweaty palms on his jeans and his finger is set to ring the doorbell.
The door swings open, and he steps back in surprise. Apologies spill from the 1408 resident’s mouth as she closes the door slightly, giving the to-be-visitor more room.
Namjoon quickly collects himself, “Its okay. No big dea-“
He’s cut off as you straighten up from an apologetic bow, and he sees your face. It’s been a while. You’re in a nice dress, her bracelet and earrings match, and face dolled up for a nice evening out. He’s never seen you like this since… since…?
“Rap-Rapmonster?” Your brows furrow. You’re unsure. Could it be a trick of the eye?
“N-Noona,” he stutters. Something’s punctured his left lung at the sound of his stage name and he feels like he can’t breathe right. It feels so strange. “Hi.”
You look at both ends of the hallway, wondering if there’s any hidden camera or hidden boy waiting to pull a prank. After a beat of silence, it seems like there’s nothing more to it.
“Noona, I… umm,” Namjoon starts again. He tries to find some strength, and so he looks at his shoes. “Have you had dinner?”
He wants to shoot himself in the head. Where did that come from?
“I’m about to,” you reply casually. “Is there something you need? Something I forgot to return?” You turn back to your apartment, scanning for anything that Namjoon could possibly have gone there for.
I need you. My heart is still in your possession.
Namjoon hates the way you’re so good natured and casual about this. But that’s what he liked about you, too. Understanding and always giving the benefit of the doubt. It was never you to suspect anything from anyone at all.
Just do it.
Just do it.
Just do it.
“If you wanted to have dinner, you should have texted me first,” you say with a shrug. It was a bit strange though. Namjoon would usually let you know if he’d be coming over.
“Yes, but—“
His excuse gets caught in his throat as you check your watch and, “Listen, uhh, I can talk but can we talk later? I should be back by around, umm, 12, if you can wait that long? If not well, you can call me… if you still have my number? But I really have to go.” You hastily lock your door and sidestep the tall boy standing outside your apartment.
Wait, what? “Where are you going?” Namjoon blurts out as you go down the hallway.
“I’ve got a blind date,” you say with a little excitement, and Namjoon feels like his blood just ran cold. “Don’t worry it’s one of Zico’s friends.”
Zico, your co-worker by day and underground rapper by night.
And the problem, was that Zico has very good looking friends.
He dumbly watches you enter the lift and wave at him as the lift doors close.
You don’t even know, do you?
“Hyung?”
“What.”
“Can we go for coffee?”
Yoongi looks at the clock on the top of his screen, and thinks that he needs a break anyway. “Sure.”
“Thanks, hyung.”
“Since we’re having coffee on a late weeknight, I assume your little plan didn’t go very well,” Yoongi says as Namjoon places their drinks on the table. Two large iced Americanos.
Namjoon sips on his drink and sinks into his seat. He thinks that it’s going to be a long night so he needs all the caffeine he can get.
“So what did your favorite noona say?”
“She’s on a blind date now. And she says that she’ll be back at around midnight if I want to talk,” Namjoon places a hand over his gut, or at least where he thinks it should be, because something feels like it got punched repeatedly.
“What,” his hyung just stares at him, incredulous. “You tell her you want to get back together, and she ditches you for a stranger?”
Namjoons eyes shift away.
“You didn’t even tell her… did you,” Yoongi deadpans.
The lack of a response from the boy affirms Yoongi’s guess. He groans and slumps on his chair. “I don’t even know why I let you call me your hyung.”
Namjoon laughs shallowly at his friend. He sighs, “Well she didn’t give me the chance to say anything…? Then the next moment she’s locked the door and gone straight to the lift.
I don’t even know what to… feel? And she was so nice about me showing up? It’s so… And she’s going off with some guy… Zico’s friend. No wait,” it dawns on him. The guy with the flowers and the nice shoes and car. That guy was your date, wasn’t it?
“She’s going to go out with a guy that has really nice shoes and a ride. I’m doomed, hyung.”
“Well, if I broke up with a girl, I wouldn’t expect her to be waiting for me to knock on her door to get together three months later,” Yoongi states matter-of-factly.
Namjoon groans into is coffee, “I don’t even know why we broke up. I don’t! And I miss her… I really do… And any friends of Zico’s is really good looking. I don’t stand a chance.”
“Hey,” Yoongi gets up and smacks him on the shoulder. “You’re also Zico’s friend, and my dongsaeng. Please give yourself some credit.
And people don’t fall in love with one blind date. Just make sure that you don’t spend another three months moping around.”
He checks his watch, “Now go get your cinderella back,” Yoongi gets up and ruffles Namjoon’s hair. He flashes his dongsaeng a smile, and Namjoon meekly returns it.

Kyungsoo wakes up with the incandescent livingroom lights burning a hole through his eyelids.
He groans at the pounding in his head and the bitter taste in his dry mouth and the remains of his body that has been hit by a truck.
(pt.1) (pt.2)
He hears padding footsteps (louder than they should be). "Glad you're up. Here," Jongin the responsible dongsaeng places a glass of tea and some painkillers on the coffee table. Kyungsoo tries to reach for them, realizes that his arms are a bit too short, and has to inch closer to the table. (and this movement causes his headache to worsen.)
(maybe Jongin is more of a mastermind than anybody thinks)
While drinking the too-hot over-soaked tea, Kyungsoo tries to remember if he'd done anything as stupid as getting shitfaced before he was shitfaced.
He sits on the thought of singing at the pub, but neither the tea nor the painkillers are bringing back any memories.
Jongin grew impatient looking at Kyungsoo trying to gather bits and pieces of his brain. He himself is getting a headache and he might need some painkillers as well.
"So, what happened?" Jongin crossed his arms and leaned on the wall.
Kyungsoo replied with consequent blinks and a wide eyed look. "I was... At the pub... Singing?"
Singing.
Saenggil chukkha hamnida...
Shit.
Kyungsoo called out your name. He shot up from the couch, only to find himself collapsing from the body ache.
"What were you thinking?!" Jongin had never sounded so demanding before. "Noona was with Kris you know. Kris!!" Jongin ran his fingers through his hair, frustrated. It was the first time he'd ever raised his voice to his hyung. (honestly, he'd thought that Kyungsoo could do no wrong.)
Kyungsoo felt a solid blow hit him in the stomach.
Kris? That tall, blonde, cheerleading captain Kris? The Chinese Cultural Society President Wu Yifan Kris? The charming, suave, deep-voiced, girls-would-die-to-fuck Kris?
Your ex-boyfriend, Kris?
It made Kyungsoo's blood boil to know that circumstances drove you back to find Kris, of all people.
Of. All. People.
He would have probably minded less if you ended up with a guy like Jongin but--
"Why?" Jongin's voice cut through the singer's thoughts. "Why did you need to... I thought you loved noona..." The boy's voice was pleading. Pleading Kyungsoo to get things right.
The last look on Jongin's face sent Kyungsoo to the guilty pits of hell of he wasn't there already.
"I thought that you could take better care of noona, but..." Jongin heaved a sigh.
A lightbulb lit in Kyungsoo's cloudy mind.
So maybe in your senior year, Jongin did have more motive that just dragging you out to bubble tea after volleyball other than merely keeping you away from Kris. It was a thing he had dragged his friends, Kyungsoo, Tao, and Chanyeol into in their college days.
You had been the it-girl of the campus the moment Kris Wu Yifan asked you out. You had said yes to the cheer team poster boy. The shattering of hearts was audible that day Kris no longer welcomed fuck buddies and pining girls.
The reason for Kris' notoriety in campus had also been because he was, for the lack of better words, a really good fuck. It was also the reason behind Jongin's constant frowning and the concerned looks Chanyeol would give you in class.
You started to wear long sleeves and even longer scarves. You started wearing jeans instead of shorts, and wore opaque stockings when the weather was too hot for pants. A track suit was worn during volleyball practices, because you were suddenly "shy."
You thought you had kept it all under wraps until one time you flinched when Chanyeol grabbed your wrist a bit too carelessly. He pushed back the sleeve of your jacket and it showed a couple of bruises and your neck was also revealed to be covered in pink bites. No wonder on some weeks Chanyeol noticed that you were wobbling instead of walking to class.
This information made its way to Jongin, the boy who was always looking at you from cheer practice, and assigned himself your personal cheerleader for every volleyball practice.
He roped in his friends to bother you and book out the days you and Kris would potentially have dates. (But they couldn't book out the nights)
What Jongin failed to put into his master plan was the possibility of you falling in love with somebody else (not him.) The wide-eyed, narrow-shouldered, heart-shaped-lip, blunt, and umma-like boy from the glee club.
After some thought, Jongin believed that Kyungsoo could possibly be better than he could ever be. Plus you loved Kyungsoo and all 173cm of him. And in addition to that, it was unlikely that you will be covered in hickeys and reeking of rough sex day in and day out.
Though now, Jongin thinks that he had never been more wrong.
Your relationship ended with Kris the moment you caught him making out with one of the cheerleaders in the locker room. (You wanted to bring him bubble tea to cool him off, but it seemed like he was just getting warmed up...)
Then the glee club boy appeared at a timely moment, pulling you into a hug while you cried all over his blazer.
At the back of his mind, Jongin still thinks that it could have been him instead.
Kyungsoo makes another attempt to get up and make a dash to plead for forgiveness. The same thing happens, where he thinks he's made it out the door, but all he does is bumps his knee on the coffee table and stumbles face-first into the carpet.
Jongin shakes his head.
"I can't believe I'm telling you this, Hyung, but get your shit together before you even face noona."
Kyungsoo just sinks lower and slaps his palm over his eyes.
"How could you..." Jongin's words are accusing but his voice aches from betrayal. "Was it because Noona was busy? It was just one volleyball season..."
"And you know that Noona never liked that bartender. But she never stopped you from singing." Frustration weighed his body down and he slumped to the ground.
"I-I think," Kyungsoo croaked, "It might be better if you go get her."
YAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSS to Chanyeol!!! Milky, we're gonna get along just fine. Kyungsoo is just adorable too^^ I just have the overwhelming urge to squish his cheeks when I see him
haha! so you are a chan bias! no wonder you like spilt coffee!
kyungsoo's really mallang mallang, but milky feels that he's actually the manliest in exo!
Who is your exo bias milky??? Can I call you that??? I love spilt coffee btw^^ It's just funny how gossipy Sehun is lol. Always that one co-worker in the office ㅋㅋㅋ
YES YOU COULD! (call milky, milky)
are you familiar with the game shoot/shag/marry or kiss/fuck/kill and other synonymous variations?
milky would choose to shag chanyeol, and marry kyungsoo! as for shoot... perhaps suho or baek. (you didn't ask but milky talks a lot sometimes ha ha!)
milky is glad that you enjoyed spilt coffee! (apologies again updates are kinda on the slow side) tbh milky has that gossipy/annoying dongsaeng impression of sehun. he feels like an annoying younger sibling milky would rather not have! (but if it's sehun, maybe milky would have, for the sake of good looking family/sibling photos)
Title: Spilt Coffee (exo; chanyeol)
Summary: Pink is the new black hole that sucks the happiness out of a good evening. And Sehun is a sunflower that lives off sunlight and gossip.

Chanyeol gingerly takes the pink card from you. He looks up to see your eyes downcast, looking at the numbers from the cash register.
He wants to say something, but instead chews on the insides of his cheeks and retreats back to wherever to sulk.
Meanwhile, on another end of the store:
“Manager-hyung,” Sehun prods again.
“No gossiping during work hours.”
“I’m on my break,” Sehun says with a bratty smile.
Aish this kid.
Kris drags Sehun to a less busy space in the cafe.
Sehun looks up at Kris as if he is the sun, and Sehun is a sunflower. A tall sunflower.
"Manager hyung, please tell me what's going on!" Rainbow boy demands in a hushed voice.
Kris scans the perimeter, and it seems that no one really cares about the two of them at the moment. Yes, good.
"Well, you see... Miss Supermodel there has the hots for our Park Chanyeol, and your noona is pretty jealous."
There was a beat and Sehun turns into a frowning sunflower. "Manager-nim, tell me something I don't already know!" He rolls his eyes for good measure.
"Don't sass me or I won't tell you, geez," Kris smacks the back of Sehun's head.
Sehun turns into a meek sunflower and once again makes Kris his sun.
"As I was saying..."
"Chanyeol, the pizza guy's here!" you call towards the kitchen.
The tall boy only manages to turn his head a little in your direction, "Umm, I'm still making soup. My wallet's on the coffee table!"
You smile and nod and leave him to his soup. Taking his wallet, you take out the bills to pay the delivery guy--
What's that pink thing? It looks strange, shiny and girly, sticking out like a bedazzled thumb in your boyfriend's sloppy wallet.
"Hope you enjoy the pizza!" the guy says after you take the boxes away. You wish him a good evening.
You place the pizza on the coffee table. Your hands were itching to take out the pink card and--
Kim Hyoyeon
Model
108472XXXX
Oh. Gosh. Wow.
It was the pretty customer with the blonde hair. How could you not remember? It's as if she knows when Chanyeol's shifts are, and she knows what words to say to make him give shy laughs and boyish grins. He hollers her order out loudly, and she picks it up with the most charming smile.
How could you forget?
This was your most jealous episode, because, hello, this is a model you're up against.
"Hey babe, the soup's done!" Chanyeol walks out of the kitchen.
It's like something squeezed the air out of his lungs. In your hands was the pink card and your face was painted with hurt.
You tuck the card back into the wallet and wordlessly hand it over.
"Wait I-"
"I'll hear nothing of this," your voice was soft in volume but firm in tone. You walk into the kitchen without thinking. At the moment, you just didn't want to see Chanyeol.
He follows you in. He manages to hold you by your shoulders. "Listen, it's nothing, alright?" He tries to get you to look at the earnest expression on his face.
But you give him none.
You shrug off his hands. "Nothing? Nothing?? A lady offers you a card to call her, and you actually take it. I've already given you the benefit of the doubt several times. Sure, charming the female customers can be fun, and don't lie-- I know you love it when they get all flustered." You try to remember to breathe while Chanyeol shuffles around a bit. "But you take a card with a promise to call her back!"
"I would call her maybe," Chanyeol wanted to reply, but guessed that it was inappropriate enough to make you want to set his apartment on fire.
He instead settled for, "I didn't promise to..."
"You took the card!"
Chanyeol started to raise his voice, "I just took the damn card, alright? It didn't have to mean anything. Gee, I was just being nice to the customer. She tips well, too."
"You didn't even tell her that you're taken or whatever, or it's a company policy or--"
"We don't have a policy against this," Chanyeol answers back. He knows. Kris gets a lot of phone numbers. A lot.
You pull at your hair, because this was getting nowhere.
"You're just being angry for nothing," Chanyeol says, irritated. "Come on, let's eat. Don't let this ruin the pizza." He turns towards the living room, gesturing you to follow.
What? Ruin the pizza? So the pizza is so goddamn important, it takes priority over your feelings?
Wow.
"Park Chanyeol."
He turns to meet your gaze. Yours is serious, while he has this annoyed crease on his brow, "What?"
"What am I to you?"
"You're my girlfriend," he says matter-of-factly.
You walk over the sofa and grab your bag, "And now your girlfriend will take a leave." By the time you slip on your shoes, Chanyeol's still confused with your words. When you open the door to leave, he's still fumbling with the pizza box, not sure where to put it.
Chanyeol decided that it was best to let you simmer off a bit, rather to have another confrontation. It had been like that most of the time you were angry. You just needed time off, and he'll just need to apologize later on when you're less like a volcano and he's less dumb and blunt.
Chanyeol sighs and buries his face in the sofa. He didn't mean to make you angry. And now he didn't feel like eating anything unless he knows that you're feeling better.
"Oh! So that's why hyung suddenly called me over that time, saying he had too much food," Sehun remembers. Free food. Of course he remembers.
"Wait," he turns to the manager with a questioning look, "How do you know about this then?"
Kris smirks, "Where do you think she went after that?"
"Manager-nim," you say into the receiver.
"Tsk," sounds from the other end, "I told you to stop calling me that after work hours."
"Yah, manager-nim!"
"..."
"Kris," you roll your eyes.
"Kris what?"
"Kris oppa."
He laughs, "Yes, I'm listening."
"Do you have time to go for a drink?"
"Yah, manager-nim, what did you tell her???" Sehun drinks up all the juicy gossip and can't wait for more.
Kris smacks him again, "Not so loud, you!" he reprimands the boy. "And get back to work! Breaktime's over."
Summary: (for Anon) It doesn't mean she has to be yours or you to be hers for you to love each other back.
+++
"Kris," you say as you tap the boy's lean bicep. He shrugs your hand off and muffles your calls will his lips.
The light knocking on the door doesn't stop.
"Yifan," you try to say seriously, but it just comes out as a breathless gasp.
"Yes, baobei?" he asks with a raised brow in between kisses.
"Y-your roommate is b-back..." you manage despite being distracted with the nips on your neck.
"Let Jongdae wait. It's his fault he forgot to bring keys."
You pull on the soft skin (who knows what kind of expensive facial cream he uses to maintain that) of his cheek and his hands shoot up from your waist and into surrender.
"Okay, okay..." he says, giving in.
You thought he was being rude, letting the Korean exchange student wait outside. "Come on, he's a foreigner. Cut him some slack," you say.
"He's hardly a foreigner," Kris argues. "He's been here for three semesters already."
"Still! He's not a local, so there's a difference!"
"I didn't get babied during my exchange in Canada, you know."
"No one is babying Jongdae," you say. "Just open the door already."
The lock clicks and the door opens, revealing a bored-looking Jongdae with groceries in both hands.
He was about to ask Kris what took him so long, until his eyes travel to you. His face shows surprise and his eyes dart from Kris, to you, and back.
"Did I disturb something?" he wiggles his brows at his roommate. "You may resume," he snorts as he turns around with the bags.
"No no no no no-" Kris yanks the collar of Jongdae's shirt from the back, "the beef isn't going anywhere," and drags his friend to the kitchen. In the process, the dragged boy winks at you before he disappears to prepare dinner.
You giggle at his cuteness.
+++
The three of you wait for the last occupant of the room to arrive before dinner happens. Luhan was still having his night lecture.
Jongdae brings out a tray of banchan first. Or makeshift banchan from what was available from the supermarket. It was Korean night on Wednesday's. Or at least that's what Kris had declared. Jongdae had been trying to move all his night classes to Wednesdays, but this semester was less forgiving.
There's a light rap on the door, and the two occupants of the room are more happy about getting to have dinner than they are to see their other roommate's face.
You open the door. "Hey Luhan!" You greet. The boy merely smiles and his tired eyes crinkle at the ends.
Architecture majors were always tired souls.
You can't help but look at him sadly. "I'll make coffee for you tomorrow," you say in hopes to cheer him up. You have calculus together on Thursday mornings.
He thanks you and both of you go into the kitchen.
That pot of whatever that Jongdae made, it was good.
Luhan complains that it doesn't taste like what it's supposed to be, or at least not like what his host family served him during his exchange in Korea.
Kris complains that it tastes more like MSG than anything else.
Jongdae shrugs, saying that it was the only kind of soybean paste he could find in the supermarket.
But to you, it was good.
"Wow, I should come here more often on Wednesdays," you say after swallowing a mouthful. "Yifan didn't tell me about Korean night," you tell Jongdae. "This is really amazing..."
"It's the MSG," Kris points out.
"Remember that time you wanted to make xiao long bao?" you remind your boyfriend about that unfortunate experience you had over the mid autumn festival. Luhan was in charge of mooncakes and both of you were supposed to come up with snacks.
Luhan snorts at the memory while Kris looks down into his bowl and shoves some rice into his mouth.
"Maybe she should date me instead, huh?" Jongdae pipes, elbowing Kris' side. You and Luhan laugh, and Jongdae gets smacked upside the head by a hugs hand.
"He has a point," Luhan said. "I'm even a better candidate than you, Kris. At least I make a mean dish of yang chow fried rice."
Kris just snorts at his friends while you retort, feeling insulted. As if you can't cook for yourself.
Anyways, you make sure to drop by their apartment especially on Wednesdays for Jongdae's cooking.
On days where you were more free, you'd drop by earlier just so that you could watch Jongdae cook. (and sometimes throw ingredients into his hair)
+++
"Yifan?" you call as your knuckles rap on his apartment door.
It opens revealing, not your giant of a boyfriend, but the handsome exchange student, Jongdae.
"Oh, it's you!" his eyes light up, "Yifan went to get some drinks with Luhan," he says fluently in Mandarin. You smile remembering the first time you came looking for Yifan a few semesters back. Jongdae couldn't speak a single word of Mandarin aside from ni hao. He gave you a bowl of rice to compensate. You've yet to ask him about his friendship-initiating rituals.
He cracks a smile too, and lets you in.
There's a comfortable atmosphere. You sit on the couch and check your twitter timeline while Jongdae chuckles nervously and picks up some scattered socks and hangs up a leather jacket sprawled from the other end of the sofa.
You wanted to say that he didn't need to clean up for your sake. Boys will be boys and you understood that.
But well... we was cleaning up already.
Just as you turned to voice your thoughts, the Korean boy was already looking your way. His mouth was slightly parted, but no words came out. Though, his eyes looked like they had a lot to say.
In that moment, the latch clicked and the door opened, revealing the two residents with their bubble tea and Chinese takeout.
"Oh hey babe!" Yifan calls out. "I didn't know you were coming. Here, you can have my drink." He hands you a sealed cup with a straw and pats your head.
You shake the cup and poke a straw through the plastic cover. You take a tentative sip.
"Yifan? What's... this?" Your face contorts. "It's so... strange..."
Your boyfriend chuckles at the face you pull. "It's the Lunar New Year special? Actually I'm not sure what it is but I just decided to try it out. I think it's some orange-pineapple thing." He shrugs.
You stick your tongue out, as if doing so helps you get rid of the taste. "You know I only like bubble tea when its plain milk and tea." You hand the cup back to a still amused Yifan. He takes it and sips as he disappears to tend to the take-out.
"Here," Jongdae offers his cup. "To wash down the taste."
You take a few sips from the cup that's still in Jongdae's hand. Oh, pearl milk tea! You give him an appreciative smile and he returns it with his usual charming smirk.
Sometimes it makes you wonder if Koreans are all this good looking.
+++
A small fight between you and Yifan happened at the end of that semester. He was unhappy because you were overworking over finals and weren't taking care of your health. You were nursing a fever while attending lectures. (Damn that Luhan and his too-big mouth.)
And you, on the other hand, were jealous over the fact that he was partnered with the pretty scholar for a presentation, and at the multiple selcas they took on Yifan's phone.
The punch line was delivered and you just stormed out of the apartment on a rainy night.
"Maybe we'd be taking more selcas if you spent more time with me."
Which was a stupid thing to say because your finals was really important to you, and every time you asked Yifan out for a short coffee date he'd say that he was busy with his presentation.
+++
You weren't feeling well at all when you reached your flat, but decided that a hot shower was much needed (because man you were soaked!!)
There's something that irks you though. You're not sure what it is. You feel that you're forgetting something important. Finals? But you were on schedule... You continue to lather shampoo on your hair. Maybe it was just the bad weather.
When you stepped out of the shower, you heard knocking on your door. Thinking that it must have been Kris, you decided to ignore it until you felt like opening the door. (Which was like, maybe not so soon. Not in this weather. No Kris, you have to kneel and beg on my front porch.)
"___? Are you alright in there?" To your surprise, it wasn't Kris' deep voice. It was melodious and characteristically chatty, though it sounded a bit worried at the moment.
"Jongdae?" You get up to open the door.
You were right.
He smiles sheepishly and you let him in and stay, at least until the weather shows some mercy.
You thank him for bringing over your storyboards "OH MY GOD... WHY ARE THESE WITH YOU?!" (and keeping them in a plastic file, safe from the rain!) which you had carelessly left in their apartment. (You put the blame not on your forgetfulness but on the not-so-little argument. You stormed out in rage.)
Fishing out a fresh towel and a baggy shirt, and dump in on your guest. You ask him to change and dry up for a bit while you go make tea for him.
"Did you have to give me the floral shirt?" Chen whines from the bathroom door. He comes out drying his hair.
"Hey, you do wear floral shirts. You have a floral tie." you argue. "And that shirt has a men's cut so don't feel so gay about it, alright?"
He chuckles in response, "Alright, alright. Anything to be dry, really." He sighs contentedly and takes a seat on the couch, still drying his hair.
Initially, you had planned to sleep right after the shower, but it was rude of you to kick Jongdae back out into the harsh weather or sleep while he was around. Since he already brought your storyboards, you thought that you should review them anyways.
Jongdae whistles as he watches you look through the several sheets of A4 paper that are methodically arranged on your coffee table.
"I knew you draw, and Kris says you're a lot better that him," he snorts and you laugh softly despite being tired. I mean, Kris has his "masterpieces" everywhere, and even stuck on their apartment fridge and your apartment fridge... He has no shame, but honestly, any other person can draw better than him...
"But I didn't know that you were this good." Jongdae uses both his hands and makes a big gesture at your boards.
"Well, I'm working towards being a storyboard artist after all," you point out the obvious.
He sips his tea in silence as you skim through the sketches, write here, and mark there.
You were about done, and you starter to clean up, thanking Jongdae again for the plastic file and delivering the stuff personally. "You really didn't need to."
He shrugs and tells you that "It's no big deal, anything for you," and adds on a wink.
He does wink a lot, huh?
He kind of takes your cleaning up as a cue to pack up as well. It dawns on him that he was probably keeping you up, and he kept on apologizing as he was putting on his (soggy, ew) socks.
You keep on telling him that it's alright, since you had to present storyboards tomorrow anyways, it was a really huge deal that he brought them over. You really owed him one.
"Shit, I forgot to change out of your shirt," he realizes a bit too late, noticing only when we was putting on his jacket.
"It's okay, you can pass it to me the next time we meet," you say, "but I expect it to be washed, alright?"
"Man, if Kris sees this, he's going to kill me." He laughs and stops abruptly a beat too late.
Not like he's going to. Not now, at least.
"Shit, shit, shit... I'm sorry I brought that up," Jongdae said. "I..."
He looks you straight in the eye. There was something with his eyebrows and the way he chewed on his bottom lip. It was like he wanted to say something but he was holding it in.
"Kris should stop treating you like this," he says in a low voice.
You sigh, too tired to really respond. You pat his back, it's okay. You can leave. I'll be fine really. You give him a smile.
"Text me when you get back safely, alright?"
Jongdae snorts but smiles and waves goodbye. Isn't that something that boyfriends tell their girlfriends?
+++
" ´ ▽ ` )ノ I'm back safely!"
You only got to see the happy message when you woke up for school the next day.
"I'm glad you did!"
Send.
"How's Yifan doing?"
Send.
His reply came quickly. "He's sleeping right now, I think?? He came back later than me yesterday so nobody saw the floral! (~ ̄▽ ̄)~"
"Haha, that's good news, I guess. Remember to get it washed!"
"( ˘v˘ )> Yes Ma'am!"

You and Kris cooled down a day after your fight. He brought dinner and bubble tea to the studio to cheer you up, and at the same time make sure that you're eating right.
The apology was accepted, and Kris felt good enough to vandalize the corner of a draft a four-legged duck and a rhino. You ended up elbowing him at the rib and he had to erase the doodle. Are you sure? If you keep it there, I'm sure the prof will give you an A+.
Yeah right.
+++
Your short film gets an A+, and you feel a need to celebrate. You make a beeline for one of the cafes near campus. You wanted to see if there are seats first, before calling in company. These places are usually packed right after submissions.
You survey the interiors and find that there's a single free table at the end! Lucky you~
But as you made a turn to order a drink, you see a figure all too familiar. Broad back, blonde hair, chrome hearts earring... that's got to be Yifan!
It would have been too convenient for you, but it wasn't.
Slightly less convenient, because your boyfriend was sitting opposite the pretty girl, his presentation partner..........
And you just lost it.
You left the cafe as fast as you can.
+++
"Hello? ___? Hey how did your-"
"J-Jongdae?"
"____," he paused, "Is everything alright?"
"A-are you still in campus?" you ask into the receiver.
"Yeah I'm--," he must have heard you sniffling, because his voice took a very sharp turn, "Where are you? I'll go find you."
+++
It was as if Jongdae could fly, because he was there almost immediately after he hung up. He showed up with his bag only half-zipped and loose notes crumpled in his hand.
You were hurt and crying over something he thought he could... easily... give... you. He tsk-ed into a vague direction and hoped that whoever did this to you will get kimchi in his eyes.
Since you were obviously not game for anything, Jongdae lent you a shoulder to cry on for approximatelt 28 minutes, and offered to walk you back to your apartment.
He dropped by to get bubble tea and ddeokbeokki on the way back.
+++
"Here," he pushed the cup of bubble tea into your hands, "my treat. He had an assuring palm at the edge of your shoulder. Both of you were seated on the couch in your apartment. You felt that your face was puffy like the sofa cushion.
You weren't in the mood to say anything, and Jongdae didn't want to open the floodgates by asking.
But he could guess.
It was Kris, wasn't it? It was always Kris. There was no way it could be your film.
Not if the first person you called was Jongdae.
A few sips of bubble tea later, you slowly spilled about the coffee shop incident. You had wanted to give Kris and the girl the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it was about the presentation. Maybe they finished the presentation, and it called for a latte. Maybe the presentation got delayed so they had to run through it again. Maybe...
Jongdae heaves an exasperated sigh. You stop.
"I-I, um... I'm sorry for umm keeping you," you hiccup. Maybe Jongdae has better things to do. "I know you're tired, and, um.. I'm sorry," you look at the plastic cover of your bubble tea.
Somehow you make Jongdae even more irritated and he covers his face with his hands as he makes a low, growling, irritated noise.
"????" You look up at him with wide eyes. What's going on?
"I'm going to get Kris kimchi eye mask," Jongdae groans into his hands.
"I know I'm in no place to say this, especially now.." Jongdae looks you straight, but you still don't get where he's going. "I really like you," he says, "And I can't stand it. When people make you cry."
You almost thought that he was angry at you, until you see his face from behind his hands, he looks like he wants to cry too.
And Jongdae wasn't done.
"And the worst part is I can't do anything, because I'm not your boyfriend," he sighs, "And the worst part is this is your boyfriend's fault." He looks away and crosses his arms.
Awkwaaaaaard.
You wordlessly push the cup of tea on Jongdae's arm. Form of solace. It's not your fault.
He takes it with a nod, and takes a sip.
"It.. It's okay, Jongdae," you rub his elbow. He looks back at you with a playful pout that makes you snort. You end up smacking his arm, and he laughs.
"Aiiiish, jjinja," he heaves a long sigh.
You're two sad souls on the couch. But all you could exchange is just sad smiles and teary eyes.
It's not like anything could happen from the two of you, you both know it.
You and Kris are a few years into this relationships. Jongdae will have to leave for South Korea sometime soon, since the semester had ended. You have no plans about Korea and neither does Jongdae about China.
"Thanks, Jongdae. But, you don't need to worry about me so much, alright? I'll be fine." You give a light kick on his leg, "And so should you."
He just smirks and kicks you back.
"Come on, I know your film must've gotten an A+++++ since you didn't mention anything about it," Jongdae gets off the couch, "Let's go for hotpot!" He extends a hand and you take it.

Jongdae really went to buy kimchi that night, and threatened Kris' skin and sight with it.
"I swear I will use the garlic crusher and push this into your eye sockets if you make your girlfriend cry like that again."
The red cabbages end up being thrown angrily on Kris' hair. And laundry basket. It might have been equally bad if kimchi made blonde hair brassy. Jongdae wasn't sure.
He didn't want to threaten Kris, not really. What's the use? It's not like he could steal you away. That was unfair to you, too. He just wanted to make a point and slap some sense into the blonde.
"What happened? Shit, it's my fault isn't it? What did I do? Did she call you? I'm so sorry, fuck, wait--SHE WAS CRYING?! ---WWWAIT JONGDAE NO WAIT NOT THERE THOSE ARE MY WHITES!"
Luhan just laughs with his ugly face.
Kris was basically clutching into Jongdae and prying for answers and Jongdae reacted by stuffing his pockets with preserved veggies.
"What the hell, Kris? Don't ask me or say sorry to me, go find her!"
That's how a smelly Kris ended up appearing at your doorstep in the middle of the night with many many apologies, and asking to borrow your sink to wash his face. His cheeks had started to burn and stuff had gotten into his eye.
+++
It was time to leave.
Kris, Luhan, and you are at the airport, sending Jongdae off.
"I know you're going to miss us but you might need to actually go, man," Luhan says. Jongdae's still dilly dallying.
At the last moment, he pulls out envelopes from his bag. One for the each of you. "Don't open them til I'm out of your sight!" Jongdae points his finger at the three of you. I'll be watching you.
Kris jokingly tears the envelope and Jongdae punches his arm while you and Luhan laugh.
Jongdae was a really playful presence and your lives. You pull in for a group hug. No one can seem to let go.
Not until the there's an announcement that Chen's plane is boarding.
The group hug breaks apart, and Chen reaches over to ruffle your hair.
"I kept a tupperware of kimchi in our fridge," he tells you, "It's Kris' ultimate weakness."
"HEy!" Kris shouts from the side but nobody cares about him.
"Use it well, it will keep you safe," Chen smiles. You always thought it was charming, the way his lips curl up at the ends.
"Yes, thank you for the sage advise, shifu.," you joke.
"Go forth, young grasshopper," and he pushes you to Kris.
"And you," he points an accusing finger at the tall blonde, "I will send your ugly photos to your astronomy club if you make her cry or sleep on Luhan's bed."
Kris makes a caveman-like sound in the airport while Luhan thanks Jongdae for remembering Kris' habits that he hates with a warm hug and a very ugly happy face.

Hey you!
Take care of yourself, alright? I trust your Yifan to make sure you eat well and sleep well and be well, so listen to him ok? You might not hear it from him much, but he really cares about you and he'll never hurt your feelings. His height is very much inversely proportionate to his brain and his motor skills, but being dumb and clumsy is his charm I guess.
Enough about Kris. More about me. I like you a lot, okay! I know you have those days where you feel like nobody likes you, and you can always think on me. Also Kris and Luhan. Especially me, though.
I never got to return your floral shirt. And I never will. I'll make sure to treasure it, for safekeeping.
XOXO
