cdream wanted to get rid of tommy bcs he thought that would bring the old dsmp back. cwil drives himself crazy trying to take lmanburg back and kills himself when he feels that nothing will ever be the same. cschlatt took over in hopes to make manberg look more “ordered” and cleaner, a high expectation he takes from smplive. it’s crazy thinking about other factors within this too bcs like. tommy and tubbo, the youngest kids on the server, were usually at the front and center of conflict. they represent the future and the change that the adults had been at some point. in conversation about white people who go to Japan and expect their knowledge of anime to culturally carry them, I was once posed with “it’s like if there was a Japanese guy who was obsessed with spongebob and came over here and thought he could get by just communicating in spongebob quotes.” This is a false equivalence because if such a man existed we would crown him king. COUNTERARGUMENT THEORY

I’ve seen people comment that Pomni’s torture scenario was kind of weak compared to the others, and that it could be because she hasn’t been in the circus as long, thus Caine can’t personalize her punishment as well.

And even if he’s technically using their traumas to hurt them, I don’t think that was his main intention. I think he was “replying” to their criticisms.

Pomni: We think your ideas suck!

How can someone, whose body perfectly encapsulates their mind and is fully customizable, not feel satisfied yet? How many options do you need? How vain can you be, Zooble?

First of all, I know that Zooble most likely suffers from dysphoria, and Caine focusing the torture scenario on that was a massive dick move on his part, especially when Zooble had shared their insecurities about their body in a previous episode.

However, in that same episode, Caine shared with Zooble his own insecurities.

Caine: Making adventures is my art! It’s all I exist to do! All I am… good at. (…) … w-what you’re saying could imply that I’m bad at the only thing I’m good at, and that…

I’m just saying that he probably took Zooble’s criticism as a low blow of its own and he made it personal.

They really nailed the character of an AI that responds directly to what the people have said and done with its limited data set and lack of deep/interpersonal understanding.

I think Iron Lung deserves to be Oscar nominated for the makeup and I'm completely serious. Tiny splashes of blood he didn't know to clean off because he doesn't have a mirror slowly turn into burns and then holes in Simon's head and you don't notice at all until it's too late. You think, oh, that must have been a burn all along, I guess, that's why it was still there. The bandages get bloodied, and then bloodier from the inside. Keeping makeup like that consistent at all is already a nightmare and they made it an arching plot point. The only makeup job I didn't care for was at the very, very end, and it's for the usual "building on top of because you can't take away from the surface" reasons, it's completely fine from this size production.

I hope the iron lung fans of tumblr know that in Mark’s latest stream he briefly mentioned the harness scene and said that he had little say in the costuming but was “assured that there was a purpose to it” which is. so funny. I need to shake the hands of everyone involved

the stars are dead. it doesn't matter that simon can see them. they're just dead light fading away. simon is dead from the minute he was welded in that sub. it doesn't matter that we can see him.

I can't get over how human Simon was. He apologised for his outbursts, even when punching the sub at one point, he repeatedly apologised for the radiation in the exact same way like he was still reeling from the shock of that information. Whenever the oxygen ticked down you can see a new wave of horror washing over him that he needs to take a second to cope with. When Ava gives him the login details he stumbles on remembering control-shift-9 never mind the password she rattled out.

They managed to present a man with a dark past and anger issues who is also not a monster. He is a human being desperate to survive and nobody even knows his name anymore. The closest thing he had to a family he resents but still obviously misses terribly as he clings to that pendant and shakes.

And Ava. Ava too. She's in an impossible situation. She doesn't want more humans to die. She has no idea how much damage radiation has done to her. This man, who she thought was a heartless killer, is begging and pleading and apologising like a child and it's getting increasingly harder to lie to him that he's going to be ok. Her screaming and begging that this is bigger than him is so achingly desperate I can still feel it, humanity is almost entirely gone. I fully believe that she hates this as well, all of it, but if she doesn't follow orders and take calculated risks then what else is there to keep her tethered and sane? What else can she cling to? They're almost entirely alone in an empty universe. She needs this hope.
