I saw the Les Mis Arena Concert yesterday and here are some of my thoughts!

Seeing Samantha Barks as Fantine felt like a religious experience!!! I was crying every time she sang, she was absolutely perfect!!! I haven’t seen the 2012 movie but I would only watch it to see her as Eponine!!!

Killian Donnelly as Valjean was such a cutie, he looked so sad, which is perfect. And his singing voice was angelic!!! Especially during Bring Him Home!!!! He was so emotional I loved him!!!!

One thing I do find interesting is that Valjean in the musical actually likes (?) Marius. In the book, he wanted that boy deaddddd!!!!!

Bradley Jaden as Javert has changed my life. His Stars was the only solo song that got a standing ovation. I also really liked that he did some sassy little movements and hand gestures while he was singing, specifically during The Confrontation. He also made Javert get up all into Thenardiers face during the robbery and also into Valjean’s face right after Valjean sets him free.

AND THE SUICIDE??!! At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d like it because he screamed the first lyric and I haven’t heard anyone else ever scream it, but honestly I loved it. He looked every bit the wet pathetic sniveling dog that Javert is!!!! The way his Javert just,,,, completely deteriorates as he keeps singing was amazing to watch!!! He was spitting everywhere and crying and I was mesmerized!!! It was so emotional I couldn’t breathe!!!

I have seen Les Mis two times and both times, during Javert’s suicide, I was reaching my hand out like Agnes from Hamnet when she was reaching out her hand to comfort the actor playing Hamlet. Anyway, safe to say that thats my favorite song.

I do love that right after Stars, Gavroche shows up and practically boos Javert

Christian Mark Gibbs (Enjolras) had the strongest voice out of everyone, in my opinion. He was amazing as Enjolras!!!! Enjolras’s verse in One Day More is my favorite part of the song.

Unpopular opinion, but Enjolras and Marius have so much more chemistry than Enjolras and Grantaire (at least in the two versions of Les Mis that I’ve seen)

Thenardier in this one has had sex with men and stated that he is bi-curious. To which Madame Thenardier responded with “…what?” Excellent stuff.

I really wish Eponine and Cosette’s characters didn’t revolve around Marius (or Marius and Valjean in Cosettes case)

The three songs I sobbed at were I Dreamed a Dream, Come to me (i think that’s the name of Fantine’s other song??), and Empty Chairs, which are also the same songs I sobbed at the first time I saw Les Mis.

The orchestra is insaneee I’m so jealous of anyone who can play a musical instrument

Last thing is that I really want to wear that big coat that Javert wears.

a lot of people are reblogging this saying that most "lazy" people are actually just disabled or that the concept of laziness itself is a product of our society's obsession with productivity. this is all true, but it is not my point.

even if someone WAS just lazy and simply didn't want to do anything but lie on the couch and watch tv, they should still have these things. it's irrelevant whether some people aren't actually lazy because everyone, including hypothetical lazy people, should have their basic needs met.

if we have the resources to do it, there is no defense of letting people die because they don't want to work, and much less because they can't.

I don't want lazy people to have basic necessities because they "actually" deserve them because they ARE working or CAN'T work. I want lazy people to have basic necessities because they are people, and we shouldn't leave them to die when we have the resources not to.

You don't have to laugh at "girl math" or "girl dinner" or "I'm just a girl" jokes. You don't have to laugh at misogynistic humor that demeans women. You don't have to go along with it. You don't even have to sit there awkwardly pretending you didn't hear anything. You are allowed to speak up and say something.

You don't have to be a jerk about it. The most effective yet civil way of dealing with harmful "humor" is just pretending you don't get the joke and asking them to explain. "I don't get it, what's girl math? What's a girl dinner? What do you mean by you're just a girl? Can you explain the joke to me?"

And if you're feeling bold, you can just say (or follow up with) "I think that's misogynistic". That's allowed. You don't have to quietly endure misogynistic "jokes", you can call a spade a spade.
