“well, i’m a pretty good teacher. i think they all got the hang of it after a while,” she replied, a smile curling up the corners of her lips as she thought back to a couple of those dances. they had been awkward, with steps out of place but what did it matter? not everyone could dance, not everyone wanted to and who really had an opportunity to dance in such a way except at fancy gatherings? you had to learn some time. and it was still fun, even if they weren’t entirely sure how the dance went. a few drinks to boost your confidence and that was all they needed it seemed. “it was either learn or… accidentally get stepped on by someone in heels,” wanda joked - though, hey, that would be a great incentive to keep people moving. her heels were awfully sharp. quite the weapon.
wanda paused at his question, one of her shoulders lifting in a half-shrug. sensing his tone of amusement, she smiled in return as one of her legs stretched out a little. she surveyed her foot for a moment, just in case some damage had appeared. it wasn’t like she actually needed to look, she was perfectly alright - no magic necessary. feet HAD been stepped on, but as if that was going to slow her down. “okay, perhaps not quite that bad. i may have exaggerated a little. a tiny bit.” she was grinning now though, and a little chuckle escaped her at his words. “true. if i had bruised though it would have fit right in with that look. it would have been just the perfect colour to match the rest of the outfit. when i go for a look, i go all out.
the smile on her face remained where it was as she just relaxed by his side a moment, and felt the weight of him for just a while as he rested his head on hers. it was such a simple movement but it did bring home the fact that they could actually do this - just sit. together. some privacy in their world wasn’t a given, and the little hiccups that had occurred during conversations at the gala were already drifting far from her mind. still…
wanda shifted a little as bucky straightened, her grin warm and growing. “i wouldn’t ever just go and dance in the street, or sing out in the rain like in a movie… but no. i suppose i don’t need an excuse. i do like dancing.” she tilted her head back a little, turning to the side and looking up at him. there was still that glint of playful amusement in her eyes, her next words meant gently. “i’m almost but not ENTIRELY at the point where i’ve given up on finding your excuse to dance,” the brunette teased softly, though it was probably true. she didn’t really mind (honestly, when exactly would they ever need to dance? it was only a fun thought and that was all).
she moved in a little closer, her arm moving out from between them and settling almost all the way across his shoulders. her hand played just ever so slightly with the ends of his hair as she remarked, “you won’t dance even if there’s no one else here, if it’s just you and me, totally private. and no one to barge in.” she leaned across, planting a gentle kiss on his cheek before relaxing back at his side. her arm stayed in place though. idly playing with his hair still. but she pretty much knew the answer to her tease already, and she was rather content by his side to move from him now. because finally, they had the privacy to just relax like this - what a simple thing to do. “i enjoyed it. the gala. though perhaps the next event we end up at might be one more suitable for you. so perhaps just no event and i steal you for the evening.”
A small grin appeared as Wanda commented on not breaking out into some sort of musical number, and he was about to speak until her next words silenced him. His eyes widened once she turned the subject of dancing back onto him as well, Bucky took a deep inhale before mustering up some sort of reply in his mind. He couldn't think of an excuse to why he didn't -- or couldn't dance. It had been numerous decades since he last tried to after all, but that was his old self. One he didn't feel so connected to anymore, not after everything he had endured. But that wasn't something to linger his thoughts on, not in this moment.
Then she had her arm around his shoulders and such thoughts soon melted away, his attention quickly being drawn to her, and only HER. His eyes locked onto Wanda’s as he leaned closer, listening to her and taking in those words. What could he say? He turned away for a moment, his glance hitting his metal hand as his mind focused on her comment. The warmth of the kiss was welcoming, and a smile quickly curled in response.
But, despite how comfortable he felt with Wanda resting by his side, his thoughts still wallowed over her teasing comment -- because that's all it was, really... wasn't it? He was being stupid, they were in private and no, as long as Steve and Zinda were at the gala, there wouldn't be any disturbances, no one to barge in. He couldn't be embarrassed and he didn't have to hide. Bucky's smile faltered slightly, though Wanda couldn't see. She wouldn't keep bringing this up for no apparent reason, at least that's what he was currently mulling over in his head.
He let out a short laugh, a smirk playing on his lips when he glanced back down to her. "That does sound better than the other events." He grinned somewhat sheepishly, tilting his head more towards her. "You can steal me anytime." His tone was far softer than previous, and his right arm moved to gently squeeze around her waist. God, he still couldn't believe that they were able to do this, without the worry and threat of anyone catching them. The rest of the Avengers were still in the museum, as far as he knew. And they would be for the remainder of the night, Steve specifically. Probably caught up in some discussion with the politicians or charity workers. However, Bucky couldn't help but be reminded back to the fact he hadn't even replied to Wanda's... subtle request.
"Alright, maybe I would." He spoke within a breath, though there was an amused smile displayed as he did. "Y'know, dance... if ya really wanted to." He continued, shuffling himself down to be more level with her. "But don't laugh -- if we did.”
