do not write or draw sonic in romantic/sexual context. it is clear that he is not interested in that kind of thing and waiting until he “comes around” reeks of bullshit because he won’t. he values and cherishes his friends very much but in no way he’s attracted to any of them romantically. yuji naka himself once stated that he simply cannot picture the idea of sonic and amy getting married and having kids. sonic is married to speed, freedom, and nature. stop.
Considering the nature of your posts lately, I can’t help but assume you’re purposely trying to get a rise out of people, but I’m going to give you a response anyway.
I’m not sure why you’re suddenly vehemently against shipping (despite, in the past, being quite fond of it), but it’s a little rude to tell people what to do with a fictional character, especially since you don’t even know why people do it. Some people do it for identification of their own (male/male ships, for instance), some people do it for a lighthearted experience, and some people do it because they honestly see it working out sometime in the future. It’s just as shortsighted to assume that someone is aromantic/asexual just because they don’t show interest in anyone at the present moment as it is to assume someone is heterosexual just because they’ve been in a relationship with someone of the opposite gender once before. Thing is, regardless of what Yuji Naka said, it doesn’t mean anything about Sonic’s orientation. You may headcanon him as ace/aro if you want, I don’t really care; identification is your business, and there’s plenty of people on this site who agree with you. But the acceptability of that stops when you’re shoving your headcanon onto everyone else, and saying others who disagree with you are “shitty people”, as I’ve seen you state in another post.
Here’s the thing you need to keep in mind: Sonic, Tails, and all of them? They’re fictional characters, with no real autonomy. They exist solely to provide us with entertainment and to give SEGA money. But the people you’re insulting? The people that this post is targeted at? The fandom that you’re saying is “bad” just because they’re upset for being insulted (and rightfully so)? THOSE ARE REAL PEOPLE. They are real people with lives, real people who may face violence and prejudice outside of Tumblr, who may use Sonic as a coping mechanism, a coping mechanism which, by the way, you’re actively conspiring to take away from them. You’re adding onto the pile of things that they already have to deal with, and then claiming that they’re somehow “ruining” the experience for you. I haven’t seen a single post so far that has attacked you for feeling like Sonic is ace/aro; in fact, most posts I’ve seen rally up with you against these people. The Sonic is ace/aro thing is a huge trend on Tumblr, to the point that other headcanons for him are often shut down, sometimes rather viciously, in the name of representation, despite the fact that asexuals/aromantics are not the only ones who need it.
Please consider the fact that enveloping yourself with this “Us vs. Them” mentality is not going to do you, or anyone else around you, any favors. It just breeds unreasonable resentment.
I don’t want to fill this blog with debate so if you respond I’m likely not going to see it. I just felt that a post like this was necessary, because I’ve been watching people like you attacking people unreasonably over something that ultimately doesn’t matter as much as the individuals within the fandom. Shipping gets an unreasonably bad reputation on this site, and I still don’t understand why. The people within the shipping community have been some of the nicest people I’ve talked to; on the other side, the people who have been against shipping have typically been the ones bullying, harassing, and hurting people. It doesn’t seem fair to me.
