So I wholeheartedly believe that Grace didn't know about what Alma was doing with the Sarentu children. Especially since Alma canonically either lied, or omitted the truth about her work with the RDA to Jake.
But since Grace was the head of the whole program, what did she think Alma was doing for almost two decades? Did Alma do research on the side while 'teaching'? Did Mercer help provide excuses about what was going on and why he needed Alma stationed at his base? Did the TAP base have a different name to cover up the program and residential school? As I'm assuming the Sarentu were kept at TAP Con-2 (or TAP something) after the first base was abandoned in the Clouded Forest. Selfridge (and maybe even Quaritch) is probably one of the only higher-ups on Pandora that knew what was really happening since a lot of money probably went into funding a whole program meant to infiltrate and 'pacify' the na'vi, so did he help keep the truth from Grace?
And if Grace was specifically kept from knowing, how was information of the program not leaked? Even by accident? At least a few dozen low ranking soldiers were assigned there for security reasons even if they didn't directly interact with the Sarentu, and based on how much soldiers npc's just never shut up. Its not hard to imagine someone finding out about the TAP kids or even just hearing about the programs name, and offhandedly mentioning them to a friend, and then that friends accidentally spreads that information, and that information somehow getting to Hells Gate since it was the main base and heart of the RDA at the time.
Honestly, I think if Grace found out what Alma was doing in the name of "Progress" she would have either physically fought Alma (especially if it was after the shooting at her own school), or gotten her Avatar destroyed somehow, ultimately removing her from the Avatar program or restricting her any way she could.
Chapter 12!!!

New chapter of I Deserve to Choose Where I Die!
i call this phenomenon "god hates me"
Finally figured out how to download pictures from my PlayStation.
My nb icon Tamtey! (Ignore how most of these are somehow from the same angle.)
Since the na'vi word for Parent is Sa'sem, a combination of Sa'nok (Mother) and Sempul (Father), what would words like Aunt and Uncle look like?
I'm thinking that it would be a combination of the word Father, Mother or Parent, and then Sister, Brother or Sibling specifically based on who you are addressing.
Like if you were talking to your mothers sibling you would say: Sa'tsmuke, Sa'tsmukan, or Sa'tsmuk. (Mothers Sister, Brother, Sibling.)
For your fathers sibling you would say: Sem'tsmuke, Sem'tsmukan, or Sem'tsmuk. (Fathers Sister, Brother, Sibling.)
And your parent's sibling you would say: Sa'sem'tsmuke, Sa'sem'tsmukan, or Sa'sem'tsmuk. (Parent's Sister, Brother, Sibling.)
I started thinking about this bc I realized that there's a lot of common words that don't have a cannon Na'vi translation yet but probably exists due to characters technically using them in the films. (Ex: Grandmother, Freak, etc.)
There's probably a better way to translate all of this, but this is what I've been able to think of.
Ninat and Neytiri are cousins????????
How would a non-binary na'vi name go?
The given and surname would go the same as anyone else's, but the na'vi follow it with "Mother's-name's daughter" or "Fathers-name's son". Its gender specific, but non-binary na'vi exist. (ex: Okul, aka: one of the best characters in AFOP)
Would the non gender specific naming structure be:
Given and Surname, Mother or Fathers-name's child.
With 'eveng replacing 'ite and 'itan. (I know the fannon term 'itu is somewhat popular, but 'itu just makes me think of the character Itu.)
You think the avatar drivers get phantom limb? Especially if they've had an avatar for a long time?
I mean, imagine having to spend most of your time in a secondary body for your job, and said body has a additional limb that helps with balance, and ears that constantly move and react to things. Getting used to those differences. And then going back to your normal body at the end of the day that has none of that.
Would that potentially effect how a driver moved in their actual body? They subconsciously worry about knocking stuff over with their tail that they still kinda feel so they take very careful steps around crowded tables, or they forget for a moment that their ears are lower on their skull compared to their avatar when moving to tuck their hair behind it.
And now im headcannoning that back at Hells Gate you could easily tell if someone was just a normal scientist or an avatar driver simply by how they moved if you knew what to look for.
New Chapter!
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Guess who didn't take a year to write a new chapter????
I really can't believe the ship scene was just
So'lek: What do you have?!
Teylan: A knife!
So'lek: NO!
So what was the point of killing off Rotxo?????????
Genuinely what was the point?
We watch him get shot/impaled, see Tsireya have a brief reaction, and then he's not mentioned again????
No funeral scene for him, OR RONAL????? No funeral paint, no nothing???????
No reaction from his friends, no showing his parents mourning him??????
Nothing???????
MY BOY DESERVED TO LIVE!
So does anyone know how Kiri's kuru moved like that?
Out of all the people that died, Lyle's bald ass wasn't one of them???????
Bit of a Fire and Ash think-piece?
No intentional spoilers but read at your own risk.
Something I thought was interesting in Fire and Ash was how the humans were referred to as 'Pink-skins' a lot as a descriptor. And it makes sense from the Na'vi's perspective to refer to them as that, as most of the human population on Pandora has been shown to be either white or fair skinned people. Honestly I can count on my hand the number of obviously brown skinned characters in this franchise that have speaking roles.
But after seeing how much weight the term 'Pink-skin' has in the film, Im wondering if brown skin humans are viewed in the same light? Obviously they would be viewed in hatred probably as they would still be considered a Skyperson, but thinking of characters like Max makes me wonder if the Na'vi view him differently (even on a subconscious level) compared to Norm, even though they are both scientist.
Maybe I'm coming from this at a personal angle as a black person, and have grown up seeing discourse and different ways people are treated if they are considered Light-skin, Brown-skin, or Dark-skin, and am wondering if that same human concept is applied to the Na'vi.
Would a Na'vi view a black or brown person differently if they saw similar features between their species? Similar hair textures and styles? Similar cultural practices and maybe ways of dress?
What if they interacted with a black avatar driver? Because from every source material I've checked, there has never been a confirmed one. (Alma from Frontiers of Pandora may be Black or Afro-Hispanic, but it has not been confirmed.) Would the Na'vi, or at the very least the Omatikaya have a different outlook on humans if just one was able to speak about having a similar culture to the na'vi? A similar outlook on life?
I know that most Na'vi characters are specially played by POC for this specific reason, as their cultures are what shape and inspire the Na'vi as a whole. But now I can't help but wonder what it would be like if more human characters were specifically brown POC.
Other than Max in the films, the only other brown POC with names in the franchise are almost all from Frontiers. With Alma (who is an interesting case due to her actions), Priya, Rajinder, Anqa, Alex, and Harding (again another interesting case considering her actions).
And almost all of these characters are active members of the resistance against the RDA. It would be so interesting, even if only from a visual standpoint to see more POC characters at places like High Camp in the films, compared to the "Pinkness" of places like Bridgehead.
It would give such a intetesting contrast between the skypeople Neytiri may be able to 'tolerate' more than the majority that are present on Pandora. The majority that have been the reason for so much of her personal pain, but still share DNA with her husband and children.
Non-Spoiler first reaction after seeing Fire and Ash.
James Cameron (in the most respectful way possible and with full admiration), what the actual fuck?
