You’d think someone who owned a restaurant wouldn’t want to eat out at any restaurant that wasn’t his own, after all why pay if you don’t have to pay at all! But Brody was someone who loved eating out and he loved trying out all the little restaurants there were around town.
Brody had never been the kind to stare it was rude and uncalled for in his mind, but with the way the woman was eating her food, it was hard not to. “ If you think this place is god then you should come to try my restaurant before or maybe you’ve been before?” He questions as he looked at her smiling. “ Promise you wouldn’t be disappointed.”
She knows from the corner of her eye that Brody’s just blatantly staring at her, so mid-bite, she looks up and gives him a sheepish smile. But when he mentions his restaurant, Crystal brightens up immediately. “Oh my god,” she exclaims, leaning over and nudging his arm with her hand. “Are you serious? Yes, I would love to eat at your restaurant! I didn’t even know you had one. Which place is it? I wonder if i’ve heard of it before.” She wouldn’t blame herself, she loves going out to different places and trying new things; this Thai restaurant that they’re both eating in is not an exception.
Last night was rough to say the least. Elena did not want to go to bed no matter what Maria did. Her four year old child was a mini her and she knew it, from the sarcastic comments to the attitude. By the time Elena fell asleep it was nearly 2AM and her shift started at 8, which meant dropping mini-maria off at daycare by 7. Now, two hours into her shift, she pulled the state-police squad car into the parking lot of Starbucks and climbed out. Her partner was gone until the afternoon doing some type of training, so it was just her.
Walking into the coffee shop, she gave small smiles to people who made eye contact with her, most people avoiding looking at the police officer all together. It was a typical day for an exhausted officer. “Can I get a triple shot vanilla latte?” handing her card over and adding, “and whatever the person behind me wants.” It was something she did any time she bought coffee, grab the next person’s order too.
Crystal stares off into space, clutching her bag and trying to desperately not to fall asleep as she waits in line at Starbucks. This is her third day working both her opening and closing shifts at the rink, and the lack of sleep is finally catching up to her. Thank god she’s only working at the rental stand because she definitely doesn’t have the mental capacity for it. Because of this, she almost doesn’t hear the police officer in front of her offer to pay for her drink.
“Wait, really?” she asks, the sudden interaction waking her up a little bit. “Are you serious?” She’s a little wary, mostly because the whole cop thing throws her off a little, but she regains composure. Not wanting the rest of the line behind her having to wait while she questions the woman in front of her, she just goes ahead and orders. “I’ll have a triple shot latte too, but with hazelnut instead.” She glances at the officer with a sheepish smile. “It’s been a long week. Coffee’s pretty much the only thing that’s getting me going right now.”
When the waiter comes with their food, Crystal’s mouth almost salivates at the sight of the steaming hot plates. The moment the plates hit the table, she’s already reaching out for the food, dumping an obscene amount on her plate and proceeding to shovel it in her mouth like she’s practicing for a food eating contest. She a few bites in when she realizes she hasn’t said a word to the person she’s sitting in front of since she started eating, and she flashes them an apologetic glance.
“Sorry,” she says, her words muffled by all the food in her mouth. She’s sure she doesn’t look graceful like this, looking exhausted and haggard while trying to slurp up a rice noodle hanging from her mouth. “I haven’t eaten all day since my shift started in the morning and this is the tastiest late night Thai food this side of town. So I’m just gonna indulge for a bit.” She flashes them a bashful smile before taking another bite.
★ ━ ( wong kahei, female, she/her ) ━ ★ the other day i ran into CRYSTAL YANG. it’s funny because i was just thinking about how the TWENTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD’S birthday was on 4/20 and how the last time i saw her, CRYSTAL was WITTY, ARTISTIC & INDEPENDENT, but could also be DISILLUSIONED, SNARKY, & ALOOF. anyway, she has been living in RICHMOND for HER WHOLE LIFE & currently works as a FLOOR GUARD AT A ROLLERSKATING RINK.
hi, this is celine, who also plays jacob chan ( @jchanbakes ), here to introduce everyone to my art hoe lesbian daughter!!
Biography
Crystal Yang is born and raised in Portland. She has two older siblings who are 8+ years older than her: Cassandra Yang and Michael Yang.
Her entire family is all over the world: Cassie and Michael have their own lives and families in other parts of the country while her parents moved back to China to take care of her extended family. Crystal decided to stay in Portland to pursue her education and also, she really doesn’t have anywhere else to go and doesn’t really plan on leaving Portland anytime soon.
Crystal is someone who is very artistic. She currently attends school at the Pacific Northwest College of Art where she’s majoring in illustration. Ideally, she would love her art to be published into a comic or a children’s book, but as of now, she’s just taking commissions on Tumblr or just going out into the city and sketching what’s in front of her
Speaking of Tumblr and her being artistic, everything she owns, from her apartment decorations to the clothes she wears, looks like it’s straight out of an aesthetic Tumblr moodboard. Her small one bedroom apartment in Richmond is littered with cute little trinkets and has really nice mood lighting, everyone is always so impressed when they visit her place.
To support herself, she also works as a floor guard at her local rollerskating rink where she’s in charge of watching over the skaters in the rink, making sure everyone’s following the rules and that one one gets hurt.
She’s a lesbian! She knew she liked girls at an early age and she really didn’t have any issues telling everyone because she grew up in a pretty open-minded environment
She has a cat named Bao who she loves with her entire heart. He used to be a stray who would follow her home and be so affectionate towards her, once she found out he had no chip, she took him in and now they’re a cute little family!
Personality
Living alone since 18 and not achieving the things that your younger self set out for you kinda makes her a little disillusioned with life. Most of the days just end up blurring into one another and she’s just looking to make it through the day.
Because of this, she can be pretty aloof and cynical, or just incredibly spaced out.
Despite this, she’s actually a great person to be around! If you happen to befriend her, you can expect some witty and hilarious commentary about the things she sees on a daily basis (especially considering how weird Portland is).
She loves Internet memes and shitposts and won’t be above spamming you with them lol
The easiest way to her heart is through food. She may only be 5′2″ but she can inhale so much food
She’s also a lowkey stoner. She doesn’t really mention it, but she does love smoking a bowl and walking around Downtown or the Northwest District. She thinks it’s amusing that her birthday is on 4/20
