"That's where the nerve is. Does Matt know?" Daredevil: Born Again 2x07
I really hope season three of DDBA leans more into dialogue and gives our main characters more screen time. What made season three of the original Netflix series so compelling was Matt’s moral struggle with his faith, along with Karen’s fully developed storyline. Those emotional and character-driven arcs are what grounded the show, and not just the conflict with the antagonists.
Right now, it feels like we’re missing those quieter moments where scenes can just breathe. I’m holding off full judgment until the final two episodes air, but honestly, I’m a tad disappointed with how Matt and Karen’s relationship has been handled this season so far. I was really hoping for at least a flashback about how they finally got back together or more meaningful dialogue exploring their relationship together. Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love that they are finally together, but I am missing some of those quieter moments between them from the previous series.
I get that eight episodes can make things feel rushed, but that makes it even more important to prioritize the main characters. That’s why I’m surprised we haven’t seen more, especially knowing how Charlie and Deborah approach their roles. They’ve both openly spoken about how much thought they put into their characters’ backstories and relationships, which makes the lack of on-screen development here feel like a bit of a missed opportunity.
So far, this season has leaned heavily into a good guys vs. bad guys dynamic, which is very enjoyable, but I also want to see more of what’s going on internally with these characters. Their emotional journeys are what make the story resonate.
Here’s hoping season three strikes that balance, because Charlie and Deborah’s chemistry is more than capable of carrying standout scenes, when the writing actually gives them the space to do it.
Pulling a baddie with nothing but a law degree and some bruises
Okay but you know how they changed Matt’s cross necklace chain from the black cord in Season 3 to the silver one in DD:BA so like my headcanon is that the black cord felt too itchy against his skin (hello mr bedsheets feel like sandpaper against my skin) and Karen kept noticing him fiddling with it and adjusting it at the office so came up with the best birthday present for him.
She ropes in Foggy to get the necklace away from him (because that cross is still the same one Maggie gave him in s3) for a few hours so she can replace the black cord with something smoother that will irritate his skin less.
When she gives it to Matt he is speechless. At the fact she noticed. At the fact she cared enough to do something about it. At the fact she knows how important it is to him.
He vows never to take it off. He doesn’t. Even when she is in San Francisco.
When she notices it when they get back together she realises he never truly let go, no matter how much he tried. Even when he pushed her away, he still wore it.

Charlie Cox playing an American putting on an Irish accent is amazing, but not the first of his accent-ceptions, for we should not forget when he spoke Spanish in Season 1:
But truly his greatest moment of actingception in the show is in Season 3 whenever Matt had to pretend to be sighted I've written about years ago:
I appreciate everyday that I get to witness this man work his magic in the role again ❤️
