Of course, you COULD just look it up. Takes two seconds people. BTW, you know there is also country called Niger, right? Both named after the Niger River, which owes ITS name to some British dude. They dont know where it came from before that, although they think its rooted in a similar sounding name common to the area.
Nigger, btw, comes from negro, which means black in Spanish and has similar words in many languages. Fun fact, calling black people âNiggerâ or âNegroâ (not as a proper noun, but in place of saying âa black personâ) is common in many countries, and is not regarded as racist, derogatory, or insulting in any way. They are literally saying âblack personâ. America is pretty much the only place it has the baggage of such negativity, despite black slavery having been nearly world wide (and America actually leading the charge to abolish it world wide). In the middle east, for instance, Muslims have, and still do, buy slaves from Africa and castrate the males so that they dont establish a local population. The middle east African slave trade has been far bigger at any point in history than the American slave trade, yet even there âniggerâ doesnt have the same connotation. All of this is changing, however, as America is exporting its hysteria over the word, mainly by pushing their culture and acting shocked and offended if they overhear even a Spaniard mention the word ânegroâ. Rather than learning how to live in peace from countries with better race relations than their own, America seems bent on imposing their own cultural baggage on others and teaching the world how to be offended by everything.
