USC ARCH 605B - Comprehensive Studio Cross Laminated Timber + Co-working Space Design Ant Farm Project Instructor: Doris Sung(@dosustudio ) Designer: Jianghan Dong(@djianghan ) & Yufan Xie(@yufanxieuvn ) The ant-farm project proposed a new decentralized co-working space which creates communication between personal routines. Based on 6 basic CLT panels, 4 types of pre-fabricated CLT unit guides users through different branches and floors. With pre-fabricated CLT panels and integrated system, ant farm space can be fast constructed on site with low expense and energy cost. How does machine recognize itself? What can be generated by linking the input and output of system?

By constructing a loop of self-reading and producing between two types of machine, trivial deviation can be magnified, a self-organizing form is created.

Though no actual behavior is scripted in such a system, it still shows a highly complex physarum-like result.

i n f i n i t e TSCHUMI DRAGON DREAM FEET Yufan Xie USC ARCH564 This drawing is an extension of Bernard Tschumi “Scenes from the Blocks” – a series of research which translated notations, scenes and motions into architectural form along timeline. In my image, based on series of motion and behavior of dance ”infinite DRAGON DREAM FEET”, the figures and geometries are generated and guided in a movie scene manner. Compared to definition of technical drawing, the criteria of remapping motion is not absolutely defined – geometry itself becomes a subjective expression of mental experience of motion. 2019 CAFA SoA A9 Studio Graduate Design 2019 China 8+ Joint Graduate Design "Kulangsu Plan" Director: Yufang Zhou, Huanyu Wang, Wendong Wang, Zigeng Wang Author: Yufan Xie(谢雨帆)

In this project, I tend to work on the mixing mechanism of aural space. By abstracting my personal experience in GAPs on Kulangsu and extracting GAP as an prototype, I deconstructed the hierarchy and composing mechanism of soundscape on Kulangsu. Finally, with digital method and the structure of "Scene" in Live Set (Electronic Music), I transformed it into an architecture of sound, to generate two parts of work - GAP+ and GAP-. Thus, a transformed sensory experience is produced. This mechanism is diversified and comprehensive, it can be an architecture(GAP+), or an installation(GAP-). Personally, architecture is such a procedural system of producing and complexity. They both are, wandering apart from the ontology of Kulangsu. With interaction of audience, emotionally, audience and urban space are perfectly bridged - GAP is mixing spaces inside itself, as well as between “HERE” and “THERE”

Still differential growth, but using Kangaroo method. This version can produce better shape with a smooth surface. I did this research half month ago, now I'm turning it into design.
