“Virgil Abloh”
Streetwear. Hype Collabs. DJ. Black Excellence.
Virgil Abloh, the acclaimed menswear designer for Louis Vuitton and founder and CEO of Off-White, died Sunday of cancer, according to a post from his verified Instagram account. He was 41.
Abloh helped bring luxury to the streets. He understood hype and demand. His curiosity, his sense of taste and design, and his ability to turn the ordinary into the iconic, is part of his legacy.
He was first, and foremost a fashion designer, who before making history as Louis Vuitton's first Black artistic director, founded the cult streetwear label Off-White. (Which I’m a huge fan of despite my criticism that the quotation mark motifs were overused. But that doesn’t make them any less iconic.)
He was a role model to young Black designers and children everywhere. And as British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful said, Virgil is "a giant among men," writing that Abloh always worked "to open the door to art and fashion for future generations, so that that they—unlike himself, would grow up in a creative world with people to mirror themselves in."
So cheers to this pioneer, who after suffering in silence will go out as one of the most prolific faces in fashion. Because from Creative Director for Kanye West to DJ-ing at Art Basel to CEO and Artistic Director of one of the biggest luxury fashion houses in the world, Abloh was the embodiment of hustle culture. And his impact, influence and legacy will continue live on.
Rest in Peace
P.S - You can catch his last collection for Louis Vuitton, aptly titled “Virgil Was Here”, tomorrow (November 30th, 2021) at 5:30pm (EST) from Miami. Check out the promo below.

Mikey better be worth it.
Because there’s a little too much stress and sadness going on right now and I’m struggling with why Draken had to go to save his emo ass.

The Eternals: Representation vs. Pandering
I’m sure everyone has seen the articles, TikToks, and tweets regarding The Eternals and their incredibly diverse cast and LGBTQIA+ representation. Needles to say...some people are upset.
Why are they upset? Because they seem to think that Marvel is “pandering” to the “woke left.” Because the only reason any studio would ever want to represent any minority or marginalized group is to pander to them to get their money and they just cant stand for it. Movies should have integrity. If BIPOC* and LGBTQIA+* people want representation, they should get their own franchise. It should be natural and not forced as if they’re checking a box.
And you know what? They’re right...to a certain degree.
Yes, Black, Brown, and LGBTQIA+ people should definitely get their own franchises. BUT they should also be in this one. They should be able to have it all without people calling into question why they are there in the first place.
My personal opinion is that if there had always been proper representation of these groups, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Because it would have felt natural. The only reason it feels unnatural to some is because they are so used to seeing themselves on TV and in Movies that the moment they aren’t there, they notice. Whereas people like myself, who are vastly underrepresented, never see ourselves in media like that so when we are there, we notice, too. But, for us, it feels good. Really good.
Because we’re being seen. If you’re always seen and always represented, you don’t know what this feeling is. It’s like a bubbling feeling in the pit of your stomach that makes you misty eyed and proud.
When the Black community saw Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa or Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia or Danai Gurira as Okoye, they saw themselves. And it was glorious. They embraced Black Panther with a feverish passion because not only was it a wonderful display of Black excellence, it was devoid of “Black Pain.” It was just a story of superheroes saving the world, and it made them proud.
When I first saw Mindy Kaling in Vogue, I cried. Not because I’m a fan but because someone from my part of the world was in one of the biggest fashion magazines in the world. I had never seen that before, and it felt good to see her there. I bought a Vogue magazine for the first time because of it.
I am so proud of Kumail Nanjiani to be out there in the MCU representing South Asia the way he is. As an ally, I’m also happy that there is LGBTQIA+ representation on the screen for my friends who never see themselves on such a grand scale.
If it feels like pandering, I don’t care. Keep pandering. Keep representing me in order to get my money. Because if you keep doing it, eventually it will feel natural to the people who keep getting triggered. Eventually it won’t feel forced. Because it would be normal.
And like Kumail said:
“...we're upsetting the right people.”
So if you’re mad that there’s BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ love in The Eternals...stay mad.
The Eternals comes out on November 5th.
*BIPOC - Black, Indigenous, & People of Color *LGBTQIA - Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and/or Questioning, and Asexual and/or Ally
Hometown Cha Cha Cha has no right to be as cute as it is.

Jack Harlow😍
Is this man attractive or does he just make eye contact when saying cheeky things?
I don’t know. But he did show up in my dreams last night. I don’t even listen to his music.
My Problem With TikTok
It knows me too well.
In November 2019, I saw a video of a unicorn dancing in circles under strobe lights with Rae Sremmurd’s “Come Get Her” playing in the background. Like any person with the ability to laugh, I found it hilarious and immediately downloaded the app for more comedic content.
At first, I was getting was generally fun and light videos. A few cooking, maybe some skits, but they were pretty basic. My “For You Page” looked like everyone else’s.
As time went on, I started to see more stuff that I liked. Which of course I enjoyed. Give me more anime content with some doses of pop culture, comedy, and food sprinkled in. It was a feed that encapsulated the things I enjoy about life and the things I love to escape to when life gets ya know.
But it’s different now. The algorithm knows me too well. As much as I get escapism content, I also get stuff that has been buried deep in me but never said out loud. I have learned that I have never been original in my life. That my trauma is one that is shared by a 20-something in another part of the country. And my trauma response is shared by thousands all over the world. Not that any of this content is bad. But when you’re scrolling through thirst traps of Gong Yoo or hot takes on pop culture and you’re suddenly bombarded with the idea that the reason you developed that kink is because of your trauma, you’re kind of kicked back to reality.
You start wondering, is the algorithm trying to tell me something? Should I go to therapy? The answer is yes, probably. But why is this social media app that is meant to bring me joy suddenly bringing me down?
TikTok as a platform is great because it gives creators this control over their own narrative, to a certain degree. Creators get on and essentially talk into the void about the things they love and the things that hurt them. They are also looking for a community. And as uncomfortable as makes me to listen to their stories, I have come to realize that I am also part of their community.
I won’t delete the app. Because in some sick and twisted way, I find comfort in knowing that I’m not alone. And also there’s some good recipes on there.
I enjoy TikTok. It’s opened my eyes and mind to many things. From social justice issues to world issues and more. I think it’s a great app. I just wish it didn’t know me so well.
Eleceed. Underrated and Fantastic.
Y’all ever read something and think, “Damn, more people need to read this.”
Eleceed is that story.
I want to recommend it to every single person that has a penchant for action with heart.
Written by Son Jae Ho, author of Nobelesse, this story is so rich with character, humor, and action. It is simply excellent.
Eleceed gets better with every single chapter and I am consistently in awe at how the author seamlessly introduces world building elements that just draw you in even more. The premise of the comic is very intriguing and leaves the door open to a multitude of possibilities.
It’s got main characters that you can’t help but root for. Jiwoo, our protagonist, not only draws people within the story in but the readers as well. He is so joyful that anytime something bad happens to him I want to jump through the screen and fight anyone that would hurt him. Because HOW DARE THEY?!
But I digress.
I just really want this manhwa to be noticed. Because nothing would bring me more happiness than to be able to discuss the dynamics between a boy and his powerful cat with more people.
Also, I take it back. I don’t want to recommend Eleceed to every single person that has a penchant for action with heart. I want to recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good story. Because Eleceed delivers.
What I would give to have a client like Ryan Reynolds. He is a dream. Most clients shy away from doing stuff this “out there” so it can be very hard to execute work that’s this fun.
I just love the playful nature of the spot along with the insights into fatherhood.
Aviation Gin is always knocking it out of the park with their humor and charm.
If you’re looking for a snack to tag along with you for the premiere of Loki this Wednesday look no further than Loki Charms.
Honestly, I love this kind fo marketing. It’s direct. It’s effective. It takes no effort to understand. Often times, advertisers will overthink to find something grander and deeper but it’s always the clearest concepts that have the biggest impact.
Every detail of this feels so natural to the brand and the character and I bet they taste good, too. Because as they said, it’s not that "They're magically delicious," "They're mischievously delicious."
Ugh, I’m just so in love with this simplicity.
Worth a listen. Then worth another listen. Then worth a lie on your floor and stare at the ceiling listen.
Released in 2017, by Abhi the Nomad, Sex n’ Drugs is wonderfully melodious and is sure to put you in a pleasant trance as seeps through your pores.
Sit back and let it flow.
Injecting Myself With Motivation
I have been away from this blog for 2 years. Nothing happened. I just got busy. I got distracted. And I forgot the email I used for this account.
But, today I remembered. And in that brief moment of clarity decided to start this back up. Who knows how long this motivation will last? So for now, I’ll revel in it.
For a while, I had this blog connected to my advertising portfolio. And then somewhere along the way, I got embarrassed about future employers knowing all the different stuff I’m into. Whether it’s K-Pop, Anime, Pop-Culture and everything in between, I didn’t want them to think I was strange or different…an oddball in any way. Because the thing about working in advertising is that they want you to fit into the culture of the agency. To make sure you blend well with the people you work with so that you can have a cohesive “team” that gets along well.
So I wanted to mask anything that gave me character, because if they don’t know how I stand out, I’m sure to fit in.
Well, I had a come-to-Jesus moment within the last two years and I’m over all that shit now. I even dressed as Kakashi for the virtual office Halloween party. And in the process, I met the other weebs at the agency—which was a real treat.
So I’m back on this rambling blog with no direction and I’m hoping to be here for a while (Or as long as my attention span will let me) discussing everything and anything I want. Because, honestly, fuck it.
