Grammar

The plain form of a verb in Japanese expresses that it is happening now or will happen in the future, and it is used in casual, not formal, conversation. All plain form verbs end with the う sound (but not necessarily the う hiragana). For example, 食べる, 買う, and 読む are all the plain form of their respective verbs.

When expressing that you like doing something, you would use the plain form of the verb and add ～のが好きです. For example, 「食べるのが好きです」 means “I like eating.” 「アニメを見るのが好きです」means “I like watching anime.”

You can replace 好き (from the previous section) with any adverb or adjective to describe a verb, making the sentence structure [verb] のが [adv or adj] です. For example,「テニスをするのが下手です」 means “My tennis-playing is bad.”

Adding だ to the end of a sentence declares that the previous statement is true in a declarative manner.

彼は野球が上手です。かれはやきゅうがじょうずです。He is skilled at baseball.

私は勉強するのが好きではありません。わたしはべにょうをするのがすきではありません。 I do not like studying.

日本語は上手ですね。 にほんごがじょうずですね。 You are good at Japanese, huh?

泳ぐのが下手ですからたくさん練習します。およぐのがへたですからたくさんれんしゅうします。I’m not good at swimming so I practice a lot.

写真を撮るのは楽しいです。 しゃしんをとるのはたのしいです。It is fun to take photos.

子供たちは動物園に行くのが大好きだ。こどもたちはどうぶつえんにいくのがだいすきだ。Children love going to the zoo.

[English Subs DL] Engeki Haikyuu - The Tokyo Match

Here’s one of the few early Christmas presents for this year~! And also to celebrate the Tokyo Match anime OVA that was announced~! 

I’ve had a lot of fun translating and working on this because there were a lot of fun elements that it had compared to the previous Engeki Haikyuu shows, particularly the “song battles” they were doing in the play~

Hello! I’m back with a few more Engeki Haikyuu subtitles~! This one is for the Memorial DVD that was released around the same time as “Hajimari no Kyojin” if I’m remembering correctly.

I really enjoyed it and while some parts did bring tears to my eyes, it was still wonderful to see how much these boys have grown and evolved with this series~ After this, the subtitles for the graduation special talk will also be posted by next week (after I share them with @needlewoman58 first, of course)~! From stage “Touken Ranbu Jiden - Hibi no ha yo chiruramu“

Just a bunch of silly swords comming together in a Touken Ranbu Hanamaru style stage. Contrary to my expectations, I really enjoyed it. I totally agree that some characteres are totally useless and some scenes could have been left outside, but all in all it’s a really good stage if you need something to cheer you up and laugh. Every stage with different cameos (we have Sayo, Honebami, Fudo and Kasen) are funny and different in their way.

This is only one is from the last performance with Kasen Kanesada as cameo.

JODEN MITSURABOSHI KATANAGATARI

Yesterday I finally got to watching my Blu-Ray of Joden Mitsuraboshi Katanagatari and I realized some things I’d like to share. (Watch out, spoilers ahead!)

Comparing the BD performance to the DMM performance, I realized Makki (Yamanbagiri) forgot a line on two instances during the first act of the final performance of the run… 

This first happens when Yamanbagiri and Yamabushi discuss Odawara castle. Due to the missing line, Odawara Castle itself turns into a military commander… DMM: 小田原城だ。この時代、関東で最大勢力を誇った武将だ。(That’s Odawara Castle. In this era, it’s the strongest general of the Kanto area.) BD: 小田原城だ。 北条家当主 、北条氏政、 氏直親子の居城、 この時代、関東で最大勢力を誇った武将だ。(That’s Odawara Castle. The home of Hojo Ujimasa and his son, Ujinao. In this era he is the strongest general of the Kanto area.)

In hindsight, I probably concluded this before, as he does properly say all the lines during the 2nd act, when this same scene appears again… 

The second time he forgets a line is during his argument with Dodanuki. Thankfully, this missing line doesn’t create any actual confusion here. 

Unfortunately Makki’s mishaps do mean I’ll have to release two versions of the subtitles. One for the DMM file and one for the DVD/BD file. At least, I’m assuming the archived file still is the unedited final performance… ^^

Then,

I’m once again amazed how all the plots of the plays are intertwined. I still love the part where Yasuke shows up and he and Yamanbagiri have an exchange that goes like:

Yamanbagiri: How do you know that? Who are you? Yasuke: I’m a survivor of the Honnouji Incident. Yamanbagiri: What?

At this moment we have Yasuke blaming Yamanbagiri and the others for something that hasn’t happened yet. In Yasuke’s mind being a survivor of the Honnouji Incident is a valid explanation for the situation, but… it isn’t, not at that point in time. xD

Yeah, if you’d want to watch the plays in chronological order, this is what you end up with (if I’m not mistaken): Mitsuraboshi Katanagatari (Act 1) - Moeyuru Honnouji -  Nomitori no Yari*- Kono Yora no Odawara - Akatsuki no Dokuganryu - Mitsuraboshi Katanagatari (Act 2)

Couldn’t make it any easier, could they? That’s not quite the order these plays were released in!

*This short story is included on the DVD/BD of Mitsuraboshi Katanagatari

[Download]“Tousute 4 Hiden - Yui no me no Hototgisu” four-part documentary (from July)

There was a four-part documentary about Tousute Hiden airing on Japanese TV during the month of July, one new episode every week.  It shows a lot of backstage footage and interviews with the cast and staff.

For those who haven’t seen it yet, I recommend it - after watching the stage play, or you will be hit full front with an army of merciless spoilers. ;) There is the link to the documentary.

This is one of the best scenes. And I think it’s the first time I hear Hiroki-kun cracking up at the jokes (although this time it was his fault).

He inteded to say “Sonna koto wa nai” (That’s not true) but instead it came out as “Sonna kotu wa nai“ which I translated as “That’s not too.“ He tries again, but again the same thing come out. :))

There’s no way you can’t love this Jiji.

Hi there! Im not very good at japanese but am really interested to watch the Toumyu musicals. I saw a few of them that were subbed on dailymotion and was wondering if that was you. Do you know any way I can watch the musicals with english subs? Thank you! ^.^ Also, is there a diferrence between Touken Ranbu Musicals and Touken Ranbu Stage Plays? 😅 cause im a little confused.

And yes, there is a difference between the Musicals and the Stage Plays. Most prominently this difference shows in the cast and stories. In short, the Musical and Stage Play are two completely different productions. They bear no relation to each other, other than the source material.
