Fine Wine? | Ian & Kaley

It was strange, having not spoken to his friend in so long. In the past few weeks before Ian’s trip back home, the two of them had lived together and seen each other every day. Of course, before that they didn’t exactly live in each other’s pockets but they had kept in contact. Now, Ian felt like it was weird being in his house and not seeing Kaley there, or at least hear her in her room. Leaving his bag abandoned on the floor, Ian opened the fridge, only to grimace at the inside and begin sniffing at and throwing things in the trash. Apparently he needed to go shopping ––– and clean his fridge. “I’m standing in the kitchen right now. Where are you? I didn’t know you weren’t here.” One of Ian’s hands moved with the question motioning around the quiet kitchen as if asking a whole question of its own. Though, he ended up smiling when Moke meowed and leapt up onto the kitchen counter to greet him. Ian pet his head as he smiled, turning his attention back to his friend. “And this had better not be my wine bottles on this island, Cuoco, because then I might have to charge you for drinking my collection.”
It felt nice to hear his voice, maybe she should have given him a call sooner, or let him know she was heading back to LA for Christmas. It took her a second to realise he was back in London and another second to remember the mess she had left behind. It wasn’t dirty per se, but the sheer amount of empty bottles told another story. A story she wasn’t ready to share just yet. She racked her brain for an excuse but nothing could excuse this. Not even for long enough, until she got back to London and could explain properly.
“I’m sorry.” She managed to mumble, fear and shame overwhelming her. “I had people over the night before I left and I didn’t get a chance to clean up properly. I’ll do it when I get back. I’m so sorry.” The lie had left her lips before she had a chance to stop it. But maybe the lie wasn’t as bad as the truth, but was it enough to fool Ian? “I’m packing right now, my flight is in a few hours. I’ll make it up to you, I promise.” She didn’t know how but she would try. “And I didn’t touch your collection. You know I wouldn’t dare.”
