These are my first impressions based on watching the trailers today. I've given everything a #/10 rating. In general 8/10 or higher I'll definitely attempt to watch. 5-7/10 are maybes. Less than 5 is a probably not unless I hear some really good things from other people whose taste I trust. I do grade on a curve because my taste in Media is pretty skewed, so even something that is pretty clearly flawed in terms of story potential could still get a decent score just because I like the vibes. GL scores are automatically boosted solely because they are GLs.
When I say I'll give something a good shot, here's what that means. I have a rule that when I'm checking out a new show, it gets a minimum of three episodes to catch my interest, if I'm not invested by then I'll usually give it up. It doesn't mean I'll never watch it, but usually I will put it off and try again a few months later, if I want to try again at all. I think it's very difficult for television shows, even ones built to be singular seasons, to catch you just off of a first episode so to give it a fair shot it gets three. I do reserve the right to not give it three episodes and just bail immediately if I'm not having fun.
Ditto - GL (Milk Love) Fake dating; Ballerina Love. Both named Rafah (hence the ditto title I think) 7/10; feels a bit boring, story a little unclear tbh, we've seen better chemistry from them before, they feel kind of stiff here.
Bake Love Feeling - GL (View Mim) Baker/Lawyer; I'm a bit mixed, but I would also say 7/10. I feel like there's good potential.
Wish Upon a Star - GL (PahnFond) 'Nerd'/popular girl; time travel and murder. Intriguing, prime for angst. 9/10 for me in terms of interest.
Moon Shadow - GL (Emi Bonnie Film) love triangle, sugar baby, a lot of angst, chemistry looks good. I'm intrigued. 8/10
Enemies with Benefits - GL (JanJingJing) is what it says on the tin. I don't love a drunken ONS, but it's a trope for a reason. I like the comedy of it though. 9/10
Love’s Echoes - GL (JuneMewnich) Disability rep in the character, we love to see it (It would be nice to see it in the actor as well, but baby steps). I do really like this pairing. I thought they were very solid in Whale Store. 7.5/10, there's a lot of potential pitfalls when including something like a disability.
Oxytoxin - GL- Feels vaguely Gossip Girl-y; and I like that. Makes sense coming from the F4-Thailand producers. I feel a lot of potential, both as a GL, but just as a drama in general. 8.5/10
Her - GL (NamtamFilm)- A lot of this is very concerning to me.😬😬😬 I don't necessarily mind the revenge aspect. I don't love the use of a cis actress when there are very good trans actresses (I know it's bc they're an established pair, doesn't change my opinion). But my biggest concern is that if the character became a woman only for the revenge and bc his 'manhood' was damaged, that's not great....it's bad in fact. Which kinda sucks bc I do like Namtan and Film as a pair. 3/10
Overdose - hetero- looks absolutely ridiculous, might try and watch anyway, 7/10
Surf n Love - Hetero- I do love Ohm, I like the surfer vibe. I love the visuals. Seems more like a good time vs. something super deep (not a diss). Honestly makes me think of the summer I turned pretty (vibes wise, since I haven't actually watched that show).
Mr. Kill - Seems Bromancey (Dew Tee)- I want to be interested, but I'm not. Quality and potential: 7/10, chance I'll watch it: 2/10
Arrest and Action - Bromance? (Sky Nani)- It's giving Police Academy or 21 Jump St. I won't watch it, but I respect it. (To be so honest, this is a script I'd love to have seen FortPeat take on)
Scarlet Heart - Hetero- Time travel again, looks very melodramatic and I just know I would have trouble following the plot. 6/10
I will Always Save You - BL (JimmySea)- I do love a bodyguard romance. 9/10 (would be 10/10 but I haven't ever really loved a JimmySea project, so...idk)
The Invisible Dragon - BL (First Khaotung)- I'm already in bc it's First/Khaotung. It's exactly the kind of story I tend to love. Definitely looks fun and cute as well as dramatic and angsty. 10/10
Unlucky Bae - BL (ThamMac, AunStamp)- Not familiar with Tham and Mac, but I will say they grew on me more as the trailer went on. I can't say for sure it's a slam dunk for me, but it is a show I would give a good shot to. 7/10
Cupid’s Ghost - BL (EarthMix, OhmPoon)- It's EarthMix so of course, and I love Ohm also. The exact type of shenanigans I'm always down for tbh. Trailer shows a good balance of humor and heart, which is very much EarthMix's sweet spot. 14/10
How to Survive My CEO - BL (JoongDunk)- I will be honest, it took me a while to get on the JoongDunk train, like from the outside I see the appeal, I just wasn't feeling it myself. This does look very good. 7.5/10
17th Spring - BL (ChokunAston, PoddPapang)- Again with important representation (HIV+ character) I'm hopeful about portrayal. I really like the vibe here. Got a dash of 'old man yaoi'. Aston's dimples had me half sold already, he's a cutie patootie. I have some reservations, but they're minimal. 8.5/10
Plan B to U - BL (BounPrem)- Looks very silly, I love it. BounPrem are iconic for a reason and I love them in something more comedic. That being said....idk if this would be a weekly watch for me. More likely I would binge it when I'm in a comedy mood. 8.5/10
Roommate Chaos- BL (MarkOhm, FrancSave, SurfJava)- Feeling meh on this one. I might give it a fair shake, since it's got a bit of a P10L feel, & I did really enjoy that show, but we'll see. I do always have a soft spot for Mark. I'll say 6/10.
When Oranges Fall - BL (AlmondProgress)- and again with the same name thing. (Like considering how many Ohms, Guns, & Perths exist in BL, I know it's fair, but it does feel like a lot in terms of the trope popping up). I...feel very meh here too. I get what the story is going for. I don't know how well the trailer really showcases it. Personally-3/10 I probably wouldnt even give this one a shot unless I was hearing really good feedback about it.
Gunshot - BL (OffGun and Ohm was there too!)- Obviously I'm interested bc it's OffGun. I've been dreaming of Gun as a sort of hommefatale, so I'm totally down for this. Like all OffGun projects, this will certainly be a mood watch for me, their stuff always is, but I do see a lot of potential. 9/10
Good Boy Series - BL (LukeMick)- Similar to Wish Upon a Star really, and if we're being honest I'd rather watch the GL than the BL. I'm gonna say 5/10
Lovers and Gangsters - BL (ForceBook, GreatBright)- I love the aesthetic, but it all feels very musical theater vs real, which could be the intention. I like ForceBook fine, but idk. We'll say 6.5/10
Love of Siam - BL(GeminiFourth)- Musical, which I'm totally down for, but it feels hard to rate in comparison to series bc that's two totally different forms of media. Best I can say is that if it has English subtitles I'll give it the ol' college try. I do very much love a musical.
Twenty One - BL (JuniorMark, NutHong)- I'm interested to see Junior Mark as full leads, bc I did really like them in P10L. I'm intrigued by this sort of sliding into love vibe, BLs often default to love at first sight or enemies to lovers, and I'm always weak for a friends to lovers story. Definitely on the try list. 9/10 (it is getting extra points for the friends to lovers trope alone tho)
My Professional Boyfriend - BL (WinnySatang)- I do fear my first though was "Why is Winny dressed in Vegas cosplay?", I'm neutral on WinnySatang, so the story would have to really catch me, and honestly I'm on the fence, even though I do often enjoy a fake dating scheme. 6.5/10
Kiss Me Remember? - BL (BarcodeKin, KenPaul)- It's getting a good shot bc Barcode. It's an interesting premise even if I have mixed feelings on amnesia as a story point. I do feel like there's a solid amount of potential here, and I know Barcode's got the chops. Also Godji, whom I adore. 8/10
Billionaire Biker - BL (AouBoom)- I am excited to get AouBoom in lead roles. I hated their characters so much in P10L, but I thought their chemistry was pretty good. It's a simplistic premise (not a dig) but I think it's a good choice for them. Low stakes across the board. I will definitely give it a shot, but it might fall into being a mood watch vs something I follow week to week. 7/10
Write You Again - BL (KristSingto)- Again, I do regret to inform you that I don't really get KristSingto, but they wouldn't get the love they do if they weren't good, and I recognize that. Amnesia again, which is ehhhh. I do like a good second chance romance, which I would categorize this as. Krist confirmed characters are verse in canon, so that gives an extra point from the jump 7/10
Weirdo101 - BL (SeaKeen)- Autistic representation?? Charming. It may not be for me, but it's kinda cute. Chemistry is a tinge lacking imo, but I'm okay with that since it seems to be geared towards being a tween/teen friendly show, so they don't need explosive chemistry. 6/10
Match Point - BL (TeshowPing, SingChimon?!)- I do love Ping, though I will continue to mourn MeenPing, and Chimon has potential, I just don't feel like he's been matched with the right partner yet. I do like rivals to partners, and tennis is an underutilized sport in Thai BL. The dads give Bob and Jimmy Pesto energy, which is amusing. Didn't see quite enough of SingChimon do get a feel there.7/10
You Maniac - BL (WilliamEst, BarcodeKin)- Again we know I'm in for Barcode. I haven't watched ThamePo, so I can't speak to WilliamEst. This is just young men making poor decisions and I'm pretty down for it. A fair amount of potential here, I don't feel like the trailer sells it super well. 7.5/10
The Spooky Love Tale - BL (PerthSanta, MondRyu)- I love Perth and Santa and PerthSanta. I get the premise of the story, but it does feel like the story is about as solid as tissue paper. There's also clearly some sort of metaphor happening with the concept that their ghosts disappear when they're together. It will get a fair shake, but off the trailer alone I gotta go 5/10.
Replay - (TayNew, PondPhuwin, JossGawin)- ANOTHER time travel premise. Love PondPhuwin, like TayNew just fine, I do love Gawin, but I couldn't get down with My Golden Blood, so we'll see. Feels a bit disconnected, but it is only a trailer, so no points off for that. I am intrigued, but I'm not sold. 6/10
High and Low Born to be High - Action Drama (pretty much everyone)- looks bonkers, should have a hot lesbian gang, that would make it 10/10. Obviously unclear what even the story is, but it's based on a Japanese series, so I imagine it's at least partly using knowledge of the original IP as a selling point. Idk, I'd probably give it a shot. It seems like the type of chaos I would vibe with. I do enjoy a non romance show from time to time.
