When my mom started to go blind, she kept driving well past the point of safety because of the idea that “people who can’t drive are pathetic.” And her brother can’t drive! He’s mentally disabled! But to her, he had a reason and she didn’t. Many times after she had to stop driving she told me that losing the ability to drive was one of the hardest parts of going blind—and she didn’t even like driving. It was just the “being pathetic and helpless” part that bothered her. And my mom was a lot of things, and some weren’t very nice, but let’s all ask: did a lady in her 50s, stricken with a mystery illness that took her sight, deserve to feel even worse about herself because “not being able to drive is pathetic”?

This “joke” harms people. Full stop.

I’m Drawing A Turtle in The Archie Style!

Recently, I’ve been reading the Archie comics, and had been wanting to draw the turtles in that style. I also got a new drawing stylus I wanted to try out, so I decided to sketch in Ibis Paint to get the hang of it (I usually sketch on paper).

I was having trouble deciding what I wanted to use as a reference photo until I saw this cover art on a post from IDW. I’m also obsessed with the drawing so much that I’ll be after this variant cover.

We met Rob Paulsen at L.I.Tropicon!

This was a fun weekend with my dad and my sister. We made some new friends, and plenty of happy memories.

Whether you know him as a ninja turtle, Yakko, Pinky, Carl Wheezer, PJ, Reuben, or many other characters, we all get a smile on our face when we hear their voices.

These characters are so impactful, that Rob calls it a privilege to be able to meet his fans. Every second we got with him was worth it.

He said/mentioned many iconic lines during the panel, including:

-“Narf!” -Pinky

-“Helloooo Nurse!” -Yakko (Rob also talked about how “Yakko’s World” had been updated, and sang the new part)

-“Butt canons, it has butt canons?!” (mentioned, not said word for word) -Donatello

-“Turtle Power!” and “Does the phrase, “go suck a lemon,” hold any meaning for you?” -Raphael

-“Don’t forget to finish your croissant,” -Carl Wheezer

I’m going to meet Kevin Eastman this Sunday! I didn’t even know that he would be visiting my state until a few days ago, but couldn’t pass up meeting the co-creator of TMNT.

I decided that I wanted to draw a Mirage turtle very last minute. The reference was a color re-creation of the original cover, made by six artists at Mirage Studios. I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to finish this by Sunday, but I’ll at least have the sketch to show for it.

The Side-By-Side:

I looked further into the story behind the reference image and discovered that each penciller did a specific turtle, Kevin Eastman’s being Raphael. I would have chosen Raphael, had I known that before I made my sketch.

I picked Leonardo since he’s easiest to see, though I may be biased since he’s my favorite turtle in most iterations (I still don’t know much about the Mirage turtles, though).

A Trans-Dimensional Fear

I made this with heavy inspiration from the “Saturday Morning Adventures” comics. It is the first comic I’ve ever drawn. Thanks again to @fabuloustrash05 for the idea to have 87 Leo react to Karai’s snake form, and happy reading!

Completed Sketches For TMNT Crossover Comic

I decided to try something I had never done before: draw a comic! I will be finishing this project digitally.

Thanks to @fabuloustrash05, the subject came up about it being a missed opportunity to have ‘87 Leo react to 2012 Karai’s snake form in the TMNT 2012 crossovers. This is what I think would’ve happened.

For further context, Karai is wounded, and Leo tries to help her. She tells him that she can heal herself, turns into her snake form, and sheds her skin. Leo stares at her, absolutely petrified.

The last two images are Leo having a flashback to when they encountered the snake in “The Incredible Shrinking Turtles” (S2E2 of TMNT 1987). I believe that episode is where Leo gained his fear of snakes. (Nearly becoming snake food, while they were shrunk, seems like a valid reason to fear them.)

While visiting some family in another state, we came early to explore the area.

We came across a cute little comic book store, where I got the first comic book I’ve ever owned. I love the cover art on this Archie comic. The crystal ball thing is super cool.

I know I’m probably reading this in the wrong order, but the TMNT section was small. They only had a few different comics.

I remember seeing a crossover comic with Street Fighter. They also had some Last Ronin comics and some other IDW ones.

I think I’m going to look into the Saturday Morning Adventures comics next.

Since Usagi is a character often seen in collaboration with TMNT, I also checked to see if they had some Usagi Yogimbo comics. The section was even smaller than TMNT, but it’s great that they had Usagi ones.

@forgetful-nerd this one’s for you! I added Leo from a frame in “Tower of Power”.

Did I have to fix up the linework? No.

Did it help me get rid of the background because I did it anyway? Yes, yes it did.

Also, why does this seem to happen the most with Leonardo?

I had fun drawing this over the past few days. I have titled the piece “Snakes Alive!”, after the episode which inspired it. (I’m also including the sketch so that nobody has to go searching for my other post.)

I think Leonardo’s fear of snakes was a learned fear, from the sewer snake encounter in “The Incredible Shrinking Turtles” (I’d be afraid of snakes too if I was nearly eaten by one). That would also explain why Leo didn’t realize how much he feared snakes, since he fought one off before.

I have a headcannon that Leonardo was originally not afraid of snakes. I think it was a learned fear from a scene in “The Incredible Shrinking Turtles”. Even though Leo manages to deter the sewer snake as a shrunken turtle, I believe the fear was still planted deep in his mind. Then, in “Snakes Alive”, he’s forced to confront the fear.

I also started drawing this on a scrap piece of paper at work. The digital piece needs to be finalized, but I will include that in a reblog once it’s completed.

Recently, I’ve been rewatching a bunch of TMNT 1987 episodes. This animation error is one of the biggest, most hilarious, I’ve noticed in TMNT 1987 so far. Donatello split off from the team to fetch the turtle blimp, and then he’s out there saving himself!

In TMNT 1987, I swear Leonardo ends up with some of the funniest lines if he gets to say a clever remark, though in this case it’s more of a burn. Is it just me, or is Leonardo secretly the funniest turtle in TMNT 1987?

Is Leonardo the funniest turtle?

Absolutely!

He’s funny, but not the funniest.

Nah, Leonardo isn’t that funny.
