“Hooooh?” The only thing more problematic than staining one’s clothes to the point she shouldn’t wear them anymore is clothes shopping itself. It’s one thing if she were actually the size of an average human. But, she’s not human, and if any other activity were to make it apparent, it’d be sifting through these racks.

Eventually, through such sifting, she finds something of interest, though now the problem remains of finding something like that which will fit her larger frame.

She pulls the shirt off the rack, turning to see if she can find something of the sort on a neighboring rack, when she barely dodges the other shopper behind her.

“Whoa, sneaky there, arentcha? Woulda been worse had I not stopped myself! ” She raises a hand to rub the back of her head, laughing at her (almost) folly.

“Hey, but while you’re here,” she dangles the hanger, shirt draping over it, in front of the other, “I’m not too good with this shoppin’ thing, so I was wonderin’ if there’s somethin’ bigger.”

She’d not expected to ever meet a neighbor, since she was not gifted with the sight. Though these expectations quickly shattered when she found herself almost walking into one. As the other woman turned, Alice quickly took a step backwards. 

When she eventually realized the blow hadn’t come and the other woman was smiling at her, she finally uncoiled. Standing up she returned a slightly awkward smile even though she quite refused to physically breach the short distance.

“Clothes?” Blinking owlishly as she the foreign nature of this request was slowly sluggishly processed through her brain. “I-- Uh...”

“Oh... I think you might need to look elsewhere.” A little disappointed at herself, but nonetheless Alice made a quick gesture towards the door. “I think this store might lack clothing for someone of your stature.”

Ah, there it was. As usual. She ground her teeth, clenching her fists at her side. “No matter what, I’m still Sir Mordred,” she stated firmly. “I’ll only give you this warning, Master. Commenting on my gender is off-limits. It’s not important.” It didn’t make her any less of an heir to King Arthur. She was determined to redo that rite, to prove herself once and for all. Even her father would have to acknowledge her then.

She let out a small ‘hmph’, then folded her arms over her chest. “Lot’s of things get twisted around, but for my part it had more to do this armor.” The blonde let out a sigh and rubbed the back of her neck. “It was supposed to hide my identity and it damn sure did it’s job.” History still thought her father was a man too, but that wasn’t her problem. 

“But well, that’s that. Looks like you got saddled with the Knight of Treachery,” she continued, her grin slowly returning. “But you’re my Master, so I’ll follow your orders, whatever they might be.” As it was, she didn’t see a reason to betray her Master. 

Perhaps it was a small return to the chivalry she’d once fought so hard and happily to uphold.

The corner of her lip quirked upwards as she returned a quick nod. Scratching at the back of her neck, she’d once more turned her gaze away. The girl knight standing before her was more than she’d ever expected to amount to. Not that a wizard like her could be bound to a familiar, still, the thought of being tied to so powerful a being made her uncharacteristically giddy.

“Saber, then, as inexperienced as I am, I shall strive to serve as a master you will be proud to serve with.” She hadn’t noticed she had matched her servant’s smile with her own, but when she did, she faked a cough to hide her mouth behind her fist.

“Wearing that armor around must be uncomfortable, perhaps we could get you into something less... metal.” She ran a finger against the metal plates and frowned at how hot they felt under the rays of the sun. “Or sweaty.”

“Wait hang on!” The words barely escaped her lips did she watch hours of hard work get tossed in the bin. The bottle she’d so meticulously sealed up and had already sat outside in the perfect spot in the sun for two days now, and the girl just so casually threw it away.

“That was mine.” Much softer this time as the hand she’d thrust forward wilted at the wrist. Dejectedly a sigh escapes her lips as she waved at her. “It’s not your fault.”

Sitting down at a cafe she’d not expected to find a notebook to sit stashed in between the bench and the wall. The cafe was quiet and while she sat stirring at her coffee, she began to flip through it.

What began as a way to pass time dragged on and it was only when she heard a yelp of surprise that she looked up. A plain looking girl stood there glaring daggers at her.

“I... greatly enjoyed your story.” She said in greeting as she brought her cup to her lips and turned her gaze away.

Good. Her search was over. At least she didn’t have to waste much effort. Observing her master, it seemed like she would probably get along with this person. At least, that was the hope anyway. It was always easier to work with a master she got along with. She extended her hand in return, giving the other a firm handshake. 

“You can call me Saber,” she responded. “My true name is supposed to be kept a secret, since knowing that can give other servants an edge over us. Like a counter strategy.” It seemed like she had a knack for teaming up with magi who were…different from the ordinary. As she released the other’s hand and let her arm fall back to her side, the helm shifted, almost like it was folding up as it moved back of her head, revealing her face as she gave a toothy grin.

“Saber works just fine though.” And this time there was no shard of that cursed table for her to smash to pieces which would give her identity away. “But I’m sure I can trust you with it, so I’ll tell you now. My true name is Mordred.” She wondered if her master even knew her legend…but then again, who hadn’t heard the story of the treacherous knight? The downfall of Camelot? 

“But it’d probably be better to stick to Saber when we’re around other servants and masters. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are other servants here who recognize me from other wars though.” Trying to figure out all the technical timeline stuff would just give her a headache, honestly. Best to just keep ignoring it.

As the knight spoke, Alice could only nod silently response and when her servant removed her helmet, her jaw dropped. She hadn’t expected a girl and she certainly didn’t expect such a beautiful one at that.

“Mordred.” Scratching at her cheek while she turned her sight away as she made an attempt to look unperturbed. The name was, of course, instantly familiar and the armor only further lent to her credibility. 

“I did not expect Sir Mordred to be a woman.” Though spoken silently and under her breath, she realized that it may have been louder than she had thought. 

“Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” She’d not expected to have their introduction start so poorly, but at least she didn’t threaten her with a dagger. “I guess the legend was incorrect then.”
