Feelings of Hypocrisy
lgballt
But what’s deafness supposed to look like?
I guess that’s because we, “Deaf folks” have spider eyes, unicorn horns, dinosaur tails, green skins, and that’s what deaf folks look like, right?
I must remind you that there are Deaf/Hard of Hearing folks from all races, ethnicities, and religious.
Even, we have Deaf folks with diverse gender identities and the Deaf community is also home to the LGBT+ community.
The DeafBlind/DeafDisabled community is quite diverse with folks coming from a variety of backgrounds and etiologies.
The point is, there’s no way to look or be deaf. There’s no such as a ‘Deafdar’. Deaf folks are diverse, as all humans are, and let us not forget that. 🤟🏼

Me: *stands up*
My body: *overheating laptop fan noise*
When you check behind your ears a million times to be sure your hearing aids aren’t in while showering… it’s silent but check again just in case…
Just because you did something wrong in the past doesn’t mean you can’t advocate against it now. It doesn’t make you a hypocrite. You just grew. Don’t let people use your past to invalidate your current mindset.
Bruh. This needs to be a mandatory post on everybody’s blog. Y'all really be pullin out decade old receipts like woah.
Comfort Zone
Gonna tell y’all what I can hear now that I got my hearing aids
Birds! They chirp and it’s so beautiful.
Far away cow moos
My friend has this is his back yard and to say I cried is an understatement.
My best friends singing voice
Chickens: *chicken noise*
Me, sobbing:
The filter for my fish tank! Bubble bubble bubble
I sit in the bass section in band. Today I could clearly hear the flutes up at the front! They’re not great, but I can finally hear them!
The sound of walking in sand.
Soft but kinda crunchy? Very nice sound 10/10
Me playing guitar for the first time. Took the hearing aids out. Not a very good sound… yet
Tree leaves in the wind. I got a little spooked at first because it’s 1 am and I’m alone in the park but it’s a real good sound.
Bees
Let me say, it was really fucking terrifying walking past the flowering tree in my backyard and hearing zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz coming from it.
“sunlight” by Hozier
I sat in my car alone while listening to it. I knew it would be special but wow, that was a religious experience.
Their hooves make sounds in the grass but they are completely silent. Beautiful creatures. Beautiful sound
Pine needles and pine cones make crunchy sounds!!! Oh my! Very nice
Hearing Aid Thing: Not being able to lie down comfortably because your hearing aid(s) are ringing and/or just plain uncomfortable
one of my hobbies is to see how long people can go without realizing i’m deaf because the longer the facade goes on the funnier the reaction is when the truth comes out. my record is 2 months and i’m pretty sure that person had an existential crisis after i said “one sec my ears are out of battery” and took out my hearing aids

My hard of hearing self:
Grandma in the grocery store: “I just got the best hearing aids money can buy. They were $4,000.”
Daughter: “What kind are they?”
Grandma: “It’s 4:15.“
When someone tells you they are hard of hearing do you say “what?” like a little joke, pretending that you haven’t heard? Stop it. It’s an old joke. No one finds it funny. If we are totally honest about it, you probably don’t find it that funny either. Do you? You just say it because you always say it. It’s not a sign of what a great wit you are, it’s a sign of your lack of originality. Comedy is about surprise and the only surprise with that gag is the fact that you are still using it. Ironically, no matter how deaf I become, I have heard enough of that.
