Season 3 Lore:
Spoilers (obv):
——————————
Matcha was unable to escape to the human realm, despite attempting to follow Luz, her friends, and specifically Hunter, feeling as though she were responsible for him.. especially as she had witnessed the Emperor’s true colors.
However, she hadn’t been within the radius of King’s blast, having landed behind him and Luz before being lifted in the air by The Collector creating The Owl House.
The Collector notices her, and pulls her close toward them, giggling all the while. “You’re that other pawn of Belos’..” she’s terrified, holding her staff close to her chest and unsure what to say.. however the collector sighs. “He was mean to you too, huh?”
Matcha is a bit shocked, but nods. “Y..yes.. he was..”
“Let’s play together! Now that that old meanie is away!” The collector giggled
Basically a 2nd mama figure for the collector, is in charge of the coven head toys/puppets. Has been searching for Alador amongst the other puppets in the archive/collection when Odalia isn’t nearby
Has heard Eda and Lilith speak amongst each other, and in fact has seen Eda visiting Raine. However she pretends not to be aware of it, not wishing to stop any chances of the collector being defeated. Has probably provided some of the ‘borrowed’ materials which Lilith mentions to King
Basically, she’d rather not be a pawn by a terrifying god Or Emperor like she had been before..
However, she is turned into a puppet as soon as the Collector realizes that King is about to betray them, as they believe that she is definitely a part of it (which he’s not wrong abt obviously)
Matcha tries to warn the collector about Belos, having witnessed him jump into the Raine Puppet, but Belos states that she’s attempting to fool the Collector.. and she ends up tossed to the side
She takes Raine’s spot in the lineup of Coven Heads and is now a true puppet of both Belos and The Collector
Updated ref of TOH Sona; Matcha!!!
This is basically a wip cause I wanna mess with the actual staff shape and change the pose that Matcha’s Palisman is in
So this is basically my Owl House Sona/OC Matcha, still working on some of the details and might tweak her design more tbh

The Mermaid and Sailor
@rphamilton
The waves hit the boat that George Washington and his pirate crew were on. They’d been at sea for quite a long time, searching for treasure or perhaps sea creatures that would get them money.
Bailey had been watching them from the depths, being a mermaid and all.. it was quite interesting, and sometimes, she’d save the fish that were in one or two of their nets.. but the men on the ship all seemed to be quite cheerful. Besides them catching innocent fish..she admired them.
Especially one particular man, whose name she did not know..but sometimes she’d breach the water and watch the man as he drew. He had the most beautiful eyes..along with a dashing face riddled with freckles..his hair was quite cute too.
The man had noticed her a couple times and immediately she’d retreat, deep, deep, deep into the ocean and back to her family. It was dangerous to keep looking but, she was a curious woman and eventually he called to her one day before she could go back in the water.
He quickly placed his drawing pad and pencil aside. He went to the edge of the ship and got a bit closer, “Wait! Please don’t go…” he called out, just wanting to see her more closely. He had heard the stories and tales of such creatures. He hadn’t always believed them, but once he came into these waters it all proved to be true.
She was a bit nervous to stay..her father had always warned her not to get too close, just in case they tried to capture her for her tears.
But she complied, swimming just a tiny bit closer and looking up at him. “Why don’t you want me to leave?!”
“Because….I’ve…never met or spoken to a…someone like you before.” He said showing her his hands, “I promise I’m not going to hurt you…”
She still was a bit nervous, but she nodded. “Alright..What’s your name sir?” She asked.
She had caught part of his name before but not enough of it. She needed to know it.
“My names John….John Laurens. A pleasure to meet you miss.” He smiled a bit. “Do you have a name?” He asked her curiously. He didn’t mean to be rude, he wasn’t sure what the culture or traditions for creatures like her were
“My name is simply Bailey.” She replied, she had no last name.. “it’s nice to meet you too John..”
He nodded, “and an honor to meet you, ms. Bailey,”
She blushed, her fin ears somehow doing so as well under her hair. She heard something below the water and recomposed herself. “I must go! I’ve been up here too long!” She said, a bit reluctant to leave.
She’d finally learned the name of the man she had been admiring from afar for so long. She let one of her hands come up, showing that they were webbed between her fingers. She waved, “I’m sorry, goodbye Mr. Laurens!” She went under, swimming to the depths once more.
He pouted, a bit dissaponted she had left so soon, “goodbye…ms. Bailey..” he sighed before getting up. He sat where he was and started to draw what he had remembered from bailey’s features
Alexander was finally out, finding it a bit early. “What’re you drawing today Laurens?” He asked.
John quickly flipped the page as he looked up, “just the port of the ship,”
Alexander nodded, stretching. “Hopefully we actually catch some fish today..they’ve been escaping the nets somehow.”
he frowned a bit, “Really? that’s….not good..” he sighed, “We’re already running too low on food..”
“I know, we put a couple more nets then usual just in case.” Alexander sighed.
He nodded, “Good….how are they escaping? The holes in the nets are way too small for them…”
“We don’t know.” Alexander sighed. “But I have a couple of ideas of how. Not likely ones, but who knows.”
“What ideas do you have?” He asked curiously,
“A sailor on the ship lets them go, very unlikely but still a possibility. Or a mermaid, I mean they could exist and you’ve heard legends. Not to mention if we somehow caught one her tears would sell for a lot.”
He nodded, not bringing up bailey. “They would. But that’d be unlawful….besides they’re just legends. We just have to figure out who’s throwing the fish back,”
“Some legends may be true though.” Alexander replied feeling hopeful, “It would be unlawful I know..but who would be throwing the fish back?”
“Maybe…..I don’t know, Lee maybe,” he suggested.
“Maybe..” Alexander nodded. “I’ll watch the nets to be sure.”
He nodded, “alright, good idea,” he nodded
Alexander headed off, where he could watch the nets like he’d said. The crew slowly filled the deck and did work, later when pulling up the 4 nets, all held a plentiful amount of fish.
John made sure to track the amount and write them down. “Well whoever was releasing the fish…it didn’t get these. We’ll be good for a couple weeks,”
“Good, perfect since we’ll be heading back home soon.” Alexander said.
He nodded, “Hopefully we’ll get back safe without a storm..”
“Hopefully.” Alex agreed, helping the men take the fish where they’d be storing it.
Bailey swam around the boat, the moon shining on the water’s surface. She’d let them catch the fish today and would the rest of the time considering they needed to eat.
John sighed as he looked out. He lived the sea, and everything in it. He had kept his own journal full of creatures and plants from the aquatic place, though he could help but miss the steadiness of land
Bailey looked at John, admiring him once more. She had seen many sailors as she’d grown but he, He was the only one that had caught her eye. She sighed, knowing that it was quite dumb of her to do so, but she didn’t care.
“Hey Laurens! Come on it’s almost time to eat!” Another sailor yelled.
He looked back from the water, “hm? I’m comin’!” He said leaving the side and get ready to eat
Bailey sighed as he left, but she stayed near. She wanted to talk to John again.
The sailors all ate happily, and George allowed them to drink that night. “We’ll be heading home in 2 weeks time my friends!”
They all cheered, “aye! It’s about time!” One sailor joked making them all laugh. “Been away from the mrs, much too long,”
“I hear that!!” A man laughed, slapping John on the shoulder. “How about you Laurens, you got a special little lady??”
He laughed a bit, “no, James, I’m afraid I do not have a special little lady,”
“That’s too bad! Perhaps I can help ya though.” He teased.
“Oh? How can ya do that?”
“My gal’s got quite a few friends that I could introduce ya to.” James stated with a grin.
“I don’t see why not, thanks,”
“Alright!” He grinned, chugging down the rest of his beer.
He chuckled as he drank the rest of his own as well
George simply laughed and shook his head. “Alright, Alright..it’s almost time to turn the lights out.”
The rest of the men enjoyed the night before they all headed to bed
Bailey missed John and frowned. Perhaps she should’ve stayed longer in the morning..she come back earlier tomorrow if she had to.
The following morning John as by the side of the boat as usual, drawing and sketching as he always did
Bailey slightly breached the water only her eyes and nose out of the cool water, somehow feeling a bit shy. She looked at John for a moment before swimming much closer than she had before.
“Mr. Laurens?” She greeted, looking to the book in his hands. She had always been curious as to what he was doing in the morning. “What’re you doing?”
He looked up a bit quickly but smiled at her, “good morning, ms bailey.” He greeted before blushing a bit, “It’s uh…nothing, really….I just….drawing.”
“Drawing?” She asked curiously, tilting her head a bit like a confused puppy. “Whats that?”
He grinned, almost adoring st how innocent she seemed to be, “yeah…it’s where I would take pencils or paints and copy things in real life to paper….see?” He said showing her one of his previous drawings
Her eyes widened at his drawing and she lifted more of herself out of the water to see a bit closer. “You made that?” She asked, looking to him in awe. “It looks remarkable!”
He smiled more, proud that he was able to impress her, “thank you. But if you think that’s good, you should see the other thing I’ve drawn,”
“Can I?” She asked, looking at him as if stars were in her eyes.
He almost got lost in her eyes, before snapping out of it. “Y-Yeah sure,” he said before going to a page that was more detailed of some aquatic life,
She looked at it with a smile. “This is very accurate..I’m sure you took your time on it.”
She wished she could touch it, but she didn’t want her wet gilled hands to ruin the paper.
He nodded, “it did…I try and make it as real as I can,”
“Well I think you succeeded..” she replied, still quite amazed with his skill.
He smiled, “thank you very much,”
“You’re welcome!” She smiled. Her words had been genuine.
He smiled before happily showing her other drawings
She looked at all of them with awe and slightly praised John with each new drawing. They were all amazing..she wished she could see all of them.
They stayed there for a while before he heard someone approaching the top deck, “Oh. You should go. I don’t want anyone to see you,”
Bailey nodded, “I’ll see you again later Mr. Laurens.” She said as a goodbye, wishing she could stay longer.
She got back in the water, waving and swimming so she was under.
He smiled and waved back, wishing he could speak with her longer before getting up and closing his sketch book
She stayed a bit close, waiting a moment before she’d go on back home.
Eventually all the men had come onto the top deck, starting their daily routine.
Everything was going well until the waters began to get rougher. A pretty large storm approaching them. John sighed as they all began to rush around, the boat beginning to rock dangerously
“Adjust the sails!” George yelled as he’d gotten to the wheel. He hadn’t expected this storm.
Everyone hustled to adjust the sails, John was helping untie the ropes the from one side of the ship as a harsh wave him, knocking him over into the freezing sea
“Laurens!!” Alexander yelled.
Bailey had been swimming and saw his body sink into the water, and panicked as she came over. She grabbed his arms and lifted him up, above the tides so he’d get air.
He gasped to get a breath only to be pushed further down by yet another wave, he did his best to hold his breath, but with the freezing water it was getting hard as his body began to numb
Bailey did her best to stay above the tides, to help John. She could tell he was struggling though.
John as quickly losing his strength. The ship and crew, though only few people knew John had fallen, was sailing away, out of the storm. John cough as his lips were getting numb, he weakly attempted to swim after the ship, only to be knocked under water, once again
Bailey grabbed him, putting him on his back and holding onto his arms around her neck. “I’ve got you John..” she stated, as she began to swim after the boat.
“C-cold…” he mumbled, holding tight onto her
“I know..I’ll get you to your friends quickly..” she replied, going a bit quicker. She was fast, and they weren’t too far from the boat. She was giving up her freedom to help him, but she didn’t care. “HELP!! Please!!”
Alexander looked back, hearing a woman?? He saw them and was amazed at what he saw. An actually mermaid in the flesh! And she had John with her. “Look over there!!” He yelled, grabbing Lafayette and pointing.
Laf’s eyes widened, “What…? Is that…?” He asked in shock. John shook his head a bit, “b-bail…g-go….p-please…”
“But you’re freezing!” She protested, not stopping and only slowing down. “You’ll die if I go..”
Alexander grabbed something to throw into the water so John would be able to get back on. “I believe it is..”
“G-go o-once in u-up…” he told her before letting go and grabbing onto the rope/ladder thing.
She hesitated but nodded, helping him a bit.
“Pull him up!” George stated, unaware of Bailey’s presence.
Alex and Lafayette nodded, quickly pulling him up and out of the water
Bailey watched and made sure he was on deck before fleeing back into the water, deep in the sea.
“Damnit!!” Alex yelled, disappointed that he wouldn’t be able to talk to her. “We were so close to learning about them..”
“Y-You’re not getting c-close…” John said, coughing
Alexander looked at him in surprise. “Why not? We could learn all about her culture and such..it was a woman yes?”
“And use her for her tears,” he said, shakily standing up
George grabbed him, “be careful John, you’re weak.”
Alexander felt a stab in his stomach, he’d forgotten all about that conversation.. “We wouldn’t use her just for her tears, but John could you imagine how much they’d sell for?” He was trying to defend himself, though he knew it was wrong to.
He glared at him, “s-she Just s-saved my life!” He shouted, though his voice was weak as well. “D-don’t t-talk about her l-like that…” he snapped before strumbking to his room
Alex groaned. He fucked up. “I’ll just shut up now.”
George sighed, “give him time…he’s right…he almost died. He’d cold and must be tired…”
“Yea, probably.” Alex agreed. “Somebody should take him some stuff so he gets warm as well.”
Laf nodded, “I’ll go bring him some more blankets.”
“Alright.” George nodded, “let’s do a head count and get through the rest of the day.”
Alex nodded as they gathered the rest of the men.
George counted through the men, seeing they had everyone. He was relieved, glad that they hadn’t lost anyone in the storm considering they would be heading home soon.
“Mon ami, I brought you some more blankets.” Lafayette said as he came towards John’s room.
“I’m fine…” he mumbled changing into some dry clothes
“They’ll help.” Lafayette insisted as he got to the door. “You were just in the freezing sea.”
“And I’m no longer in the freezing sea,”
“Yes but you need to at least get stuff besides a new set of clothes to warm you up.” He stated.
He sighed, “Alright…thank you…”
“No problem.” Lafayette smiled, handing the blankets to him. “I’m glad you are alright my friend..it was scary when you’d gone overboard..”
“It was scary to fall. I thought I was done for…”
“Well, lets just be glad that you’d thought wrong, oui?” He said with a sigh.
He nodded as he wrapped his blankets around him tightly and close.
“I hope those help, I need to go help up deck.” Lad said. “I’ll bring you dinner if you’d like.”
He shook his head, “no…I think…I’m just gonna go to sleep. I’m not hungry..”
“If you’re sure.” Laf sighed. “Sleep well.”
He nodded, “you too..” he mumbled before getting to bed and falling asleep
Laf smiled and he headed on up to help and get dinner.
Bailey looked at the ship from afar. Though she’d felt bad when she fleed..she also had been relieved since she’d be free another day.
Her friend was frantically looking for her, “bailey! There you are! Get back down here,”
Bailey knew she was about to get scowled but she simply sighed and went under and over to her friend. “I’m here..what’s going on?”
Her father had probably sent some friends to find her, but of course it had been Iris to find her first.
“Your father wants you. To make sure you weren’t breaching the water….the same ship with humans was in the area. He didn’t want you near it,”
“I wasn’t near it as you could see.” She said, glad she’d stayed far from it since earlier. “So, are you the only one he sent or are Harrison and the others swimming around looking too?”
“Just Harrison and I.” She said bringing her back home
She nodded, following her obediently. She was just hoping her father wouldn’t give her another 20 minute lecture.
Allan, her brother had been outside their home as they got there. “There you are! We were worried sick.”
“Near the surface again,” iris sighed, “but hadn’t breached yet. The boat moved farther away from our grounds.
“Bailey you know it’s dangerous..” Allan sighed.
She frowned, “you don’t have to scowl me, you know papa is going to no matter what.”
“It doesn’t matter. You have to get it through your head eventually before it’s too late,” Allan said
“I know it’s dangerous, I wasn’t as close as I used to be, and I didn’t even breach the surface!” She replied, not noticing their father coming out of their home.
“What was that?” Her father asked, crossing his arms as he watched her, unimpressed
She slightly jumped and turned to him. “I wasn’t close to that ship today..and I didn’t breach the surface either.”
“She was near the surface though.” Iris explained.
“You know I don’t want you near the surface. They’re barbaric,”
“Not all of them Papa!!” Bailey insisted.
Allan looked at her, “You’ve been closer than you’ve let on, haven’t you?” He asked. “Haven’t you?!”
Bailey blushed in embarrassment, having been caught. “All the days before..not today though.”
Her father glared, “you know what I’ve said bailey. They could kill you! They’re all selfish! Barbaric! Evil! They wouldn’t dare to show mercy. What if they saw you and took you?” He snapped, “we’d lose you too! I’d lose you! Why would you ever want that to happen?”
“I don’t want it to happen Papa! I just can’t help but be curious!!” She replied, trying to stop his anger.
“MA WAS CURIOUS TOO, AND LOOK HOW SHE TURNED UP!” Allan yelled at his older sister.
Her heart stopped and she glared at him, “Don’t you DARE bring Ma into this!!”
He glared back, “I will bring her into this! You’re doing exactly what she did!”
“You shut your mouth. You don’t understand how hard it is to just stay down here for me!” She yelled, “It’s boring and always the same, I can never see human life besides those men on the boats!!”
“There’s a reason for that! It’s not our fault you’re not happy! Can’t you just accept that?”
Bailey stayed silent for a moment before looking back at him. “No, I guess I can’t..” She headed into their home and into her room, no longer wanting to speak.
She was going to go see John again tomorrow, no matter what.

The Mermaid and Sailor
@rphamilton

The Mermaid and Sailor
@rphamilton

The Mermaid and Sailor
@rphamilton
