Who’s Hand Do You Hold, When Everyone Has Left? // Self Para
Kida had seen battle before. She had watched as unwelcome visitors marched onto her land, weapons in hand as they tried to take what wasn’t theirs. Just a little girl, Kida had ducked and hid, watching from behind trees as her people fell, one by one.
Then, like something out of a nightmare, she had watched her mother collapse, life leaving her body right before the young girl’s eyes. It was one thing, to lose someone so dear, but to watch their soul slip out of this world? That was a separate horror entirely.
This battle was different, but in some ways, it appeared the same. They fought to keep a home, and that was something that Kida had grown remarkably familiar with. Hogwarts wasn’t a simple castle- it meant so much more, to so many of the students and teachers. Through every person she had met, Kida learned of another aspect of the castle, and if one thing remained constant in each story, it was the school’s sentimental importance.
So she had fought, valiantly and without hesitation, as she attempted to put an end to any who wished to take the castle with poor intentions. Around her, other’s died, their loved one’s left to mourn. And since stumbling upon the first body, Kida had made a promise to herself and to the Gods, to properly see off as many souls as she could.
On her knees, Kida looked down at yet another fallen hero- a girl who looked no older than twelve. With an aching heart, she gently moved her arms to rest on either side of her body, opening up the pathways for the soul to find its way home. Then she looked up to the heavens, and prayed. “Kagin ta.mil Adlantis.ag, bring her peace,” she spoke clearly, then looked down at the young girl’s face, and used two fingers to gently shut her eyelids.
Something sounded behind her, then. Feet shuffled against the ground, and she turned around to see a tall wizard, wand pointed directly at her. Acting quickly, she pulled out her own wand, just in time to deflect the curse sent her way. Scrambling to her feet, she all but growled, her blood boiling. “You have interrupted me! I have no time for you!” she shouted, sending a curse towards the figure.
Blocking it, the wizard rushed at her, a crazed look in his eyes as he fired another curse, then swung at her. Kida ducked and deflected, her reflexes quick, but her temper quicker still. Huffing angrily, she kicked out, sweeping the wizard’s legs out from under him and sending him toppling to the floor. “You are a murderer! There is no room for people like you in this world!” She screamed, aiming her wand.
But she hadn’t seen him cast another curse.
It hit her square in the chest, her heart faltering. Time seemed to slow down, like she was moving through water. All feeling began to fade, and as the light followed suit, she distantly thought of her mother and father, and wondered if she might see them soon. It had come to an end too quickly, but for the first time since childhood, her family would be whole again.
And as she faded into darkness, the Gods smiled down on her, and when they took her hand, it was over.
Kagin Ta.mil Adlantis.ag, Bring Her Peace.
