If you want to make the world a better place for mentally ill and neurodivergent people, get into the habit of shutting down people who mock/laugh at/sneer at “odd” or “weird” but harmless behaviour. Just refuse to laugh with them and say “That’s not funny.” or “They’re not doing any harm.” Do this whether or not anyone who’s directly negatively affected hears it. This is both about protecting people from ableist verbal abuse, AND about teaching ableists that their attitudes are not being tolerated and that you’re not going to bond with them over ableism (or, hopefully, any other form of oppression).

My fav is saying “I don’t get it” or “what’s the problem/joke?” and forcing people to admit that they’re just being assholes.

I think finding out that Hitler was inspired by how throughly Andrew Jackson committed genocide against the Natives would shatter or at least destabilize the ethos of the Founding Fathers & America for a lot of people
also the american eugenics movement which started in the late 1800′s was a huge inspiration for Hitler, and was even where the idea of blonde hair blue eyed superiority came from, and the idea of a “gas chamber” to take care of “undesirables”. In the early part of the third reich, the american eugenics movement saw it as the logical conclusion of their ““research”” and republished lots and lots of nazi propaganda

Big chunks of the American legal system and history inspired the nazi’s in their organisation of the Holocaust.

What is something that you tried that you will never do again?
I’ve been holding on to this question for a while.
I’ll never flirt with any kind of intention again. It doesn’t go well for me and reinforces that I’m not just not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m hardly anyone’s cup of tea. I end up feeling foolish because I expected or hoped for anything else. I think I’ve finally learned this lesson, the hard way, after the millionth failure. I’m ready to let it go.

There are different types of friends/friendships and they’re all completely valid. But if we’re talking close friends, I really want mutual vulnerability and intimacy, honesty, to laugh a lot together, to share ideas and meals and memories that we make. I want to feel like I merit time, and I want to make time for them too. I’d want them to be present for my big things whenever possible, like performances or events that are important to me. And my close friends tend to have similar outlooks on core beliefs even if the details vary a bit.
