🪞 Chapter 1 of 11 - “The Angel” (7.6k)
🎩 Completely written (around 80k in total) | Updates every Wednesday | Fake/Pretend Relationship | There Was Only One Bed
💜 Beta: the one and only @beerok23
1811. Returned to London after the death of his father, infamous rake Anthony ‘Crowley’, Duke of Morningstar, has three months to restore his tattered reputation and secure himself a proper match, on pain of having his title stripped from him.
Enter the irreproachable Lord Aziraphale, newly minted Viscount Eastgate, who would very much like to discourage his many suitors from lining outside his door in Mayfair so he can go back to enjoying his peaceful existence on the shelf.
After a chance meeting at a gentlemen’s club, it appears the two may lend each other a helping hand after all. While a fake engagement will not solve their problems once and for all, it should buy them enough time to put their respective affairs in order.
If only the ultimate goal of their Arrangement would remain as clear and unchanging as it should…

Excerpt from Chapter 1 - “The Angel”:
Stormy grey eyes widened in surprise and then slowly roamed all over Crowley’s face, moving even further south, along his waistcoat, his pantaloons, down to the blood red tassels of his Hessian boots.
Now, in polite company, such attention could only be described as rude. However, Crowley prided himself on being as far from polite company as one possibly could be and it was clear, at least judging by the unfocused intensity of the man’s expression, that he hadn’t quite realised what he was doing.
Besides, Crowley liked to be ogled. Thrived on it. There was no other reason for wearing pantaloons that tight. In his experience, the more he could get people to concentrate on his appearance, the more successful his deceptions.
So he grinned and folded himself on the chair with the snake-like gracefulness he’d cultivated over the years.
“Am I more or less interesting than your book?”
The angel frowned and drew back, cheeks pinkening and eyes blinking in sudden awareness. “Why, I never–”
Crowley smirked and popped a roasted potato in his mouth. “Don’t answer,” he said, mouth full. “That was terribly forward of me. Rude, even.”
A wrinkle appeared between the angel’s eyebrows, something akin to recognition not so slowly dawning on him as he straightened his back. “According to what I have heard about you, I should not expect anything less.”
“Oh, my fame precedes me, then.” He speared another potato as obnoxiously as he could.
“I am afraid it does, Your Grace,” the angel said, lips almost comically pursed in disapproval. “What are you doing at Angel’s?”
“Same thing you are, I wager.”
“Somehow I doubt it.”
Many thanks to @addledmongoose for choosing me at this year's @fandomtrumpshate and letting me play with these two for a good cause💜
I want to go on record and say I really love when fanfic writers self-promote. First of all, my dash is so chaotic that chances are I actually didn’t see your fic the first time you posted about it. If you reblog it a few times at different times of day (or over multiple days!) I’m much more likely to see it! Second of all, even if I did see your post the first time (or even if I’ve seen it multiple times!) if I was busy or not in the mood for that particular kind of fic at the moment, there’s a good chance I haven’t actually read it yet. So the more times you reblog it the more times you are reminding me that hey, I actually did want to read that at some point. It helps me! And I appreciate it! So please, keep self promoting and self-reblogging!
I haven’t done one of these in a while. But I finally have something to share! So, here’s a small bit from Catalyst - a GO S3 quasi-canon compliant missing scene oneshot. It should be out in the next few days.

She stretches her palm out into the vacant expanse of what once was and would again be the astral fields. Let them see. Let them see where they came from, where they will make something new from all that remains.
And things certainly do remain. True, there’s no air fryers. No rubber ducks or sushi. Kangaroos or boomerangs. No Austen or Shostakovich, Shakespear or Sondheim. But there will be— or at least there may be.
The matter is there, malleable and bursting with potential. Inky black and iridescent only because it knows itself to be so beneath starlight, the matter waits. It swirls and churns in the vast undefined sea. It trellises around the suggestion of fingers and curls curiously around the memory of her lips and eyes. It whispers to the two flames shining in the darkness and nips at the world in the palm of her hand.
Matter is neither created nor destroyed, it is conserved. The matter remembers what it once was. Soon, it will have a choice as to what it shall be again.
***
It feels odd to say this, but if you’d like to be tagged when I release this story feel free to drop me a comment.
And if you’re writing, I’d love to see what you’re working on (in any fandom)! Absolutely zero pressure tags @dbacklot99, @kneelbeforeyourdogbabylon, @leviosally, @hermiola, @harlotofupdog and everyone else who wants to play!
WIP Wednesday - 3 June 2026 - A Place Where Palms Grow (Like Trees) (M) by @@raxacoricofallapatoriusrulez
Aziraphale manages to break away from the rigid constraints of competitive rowing. Years later, his mother's will requires him to live on in his family home on the bank of the Thames for one year before he can sell it. When four young people beg for his help when their rowing club coach leaves, will he make peace with his past? And what will the meet-ugly with another coach lead to?
If you know me at all, you know I have a special place in my heart for Boat Omens, especially when the atmosphere feels real. And this does.
This fic posts updates each week. If you check it out, remember to encourage our wonderful writers by leaving kudos and comments. Don't read WIPs? Bookmark or subscribe so you don't miss out when it finishes posting.

Summary:
After a decade away from the sport that nearly broke him, Aziraphale returns to his childhood home on the banks of the River Thames—bound by his mother’s will to stay for one year before he can sell and leave for good.
He intends to endure it quietly. Instead, spring brings rowing boats back into his life—and with them, a reluctant coaching role, a group of determined kids, and a rival trainer with sharp eyes, red hair, and a past Aziraphale can’t quite forget.
Crowley has his own history with the sport—one marked by injury, rejection, and survival on the fringes. He doesn’t expect to find anything in Kingston except work. He certainly doesn’t expect Aziraphale.
As old wounds resurface and something new begins to take shape between them, both men are forced to confront what they lost—and what they might still choose to keep.
Because leaving is easy. Staying is something else entirely.

Just marked another WIP complete. If you've been looking for a good read, check out all the WIPs I've recommended this year that are now fully published.
I was going to pick my favorite Pride-related stories for this month, then I decided you are going to have no trouble finding those stories. I might even offer a few of my own.
The travelers in these tales are restless. They don’t know how to settle down, nor do they think they want to. They haven’t stopped moving for some time. Then they meet someone who makes them reconsider.
Coming up with themes and ways stories are connected isn’t always easy or obvious. But somehow, these three stories fell together immediately.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
The June Fic Recs
1 Corinthians 13 1-13 by ffinoppop @ffonippop
Rated: M
Published: February 2024, 21K words, 1/1 chapters
Summary: Restless traveler, Aziraphale Fell, meets settled-down Anthony Crowley in middle-of-nowhere, Texas. Aziraphale goes through life flitting from place to place, never staying long. He runs on the belief that if he’s not going, he’s missing out on something better. Crowley’s life is stationary. He keeps himself rooted with the belief that his life is the best it’s ever going to get, and to go would be to risk that. Aziraphale has to go. Crowley has to stay. They have to take what they can get from each other, and that needs to be enough.
My Take: I’ve read this story at least three times now. Each time I get a little more from it. The central question here is, what do you do when you are terribly in love and yet that isn’t enough to make you change who you believe you are at your core? Can one person ever be enough to make you give up everything else? Should they be? It’s something a lot of us have struggled with. It’s very well done, heartbreaking, and the ending makes more sense than you might expect.

Published: March 2024, 70K words, 22/22 chapters
Summary: When Anthony Crowley meets Aziraphale Fell at Aziraphale's library, little do they know that they will turn each other's worlds upside down. After a magical week spent falling in love, they face a hard reality. Will they be able to make the choices they need to make to build a real life together?
My Take: I’ve read this one several times, too. Imagine my delight when I finally realized the author was my friend Thingy! It takes me a while sometimes. (Those of you who remember my story about my bday fic written by @brenna will understand.)
This story has so many great tropes: strangers to friends to lovers, long-distance relationship struggles, commitment issues, secrets, misunderstandings, jealousy. And of course my BIG requirement: a happy ending.
Here, the problem is Crowley can’t seem to stop moving, to settle into a relationship, to commit—even though it appears he wants to. It takes a while to find out why. When you do, be ready for a bit of heartbreak before the guaranteed happy ending.
Buddy Boating by CuriousPupsicle @curiouspupsicle

Published: September 2025, 63.5K words, 21/21 chapters
Summary: Azira Fell is happy sailing solo and living aboard her sailboat, Meander, with her cat Oscar. Toni Crowley is happy sailing solo and living aboard her sailboat, Siren. What will happen when the two independent cruisers meet?
My Take: This is the femme Good Omens human AU you never knew you needed. Hell, until I beta’d it, I didn’t even know I needed it. But I did, and so do you.
CuriousPupsicle knows her boats (she lived aboard for years; don’t ask me about it, I’m not the expert) and makes you feel as if you are there when you read any of her sailing stories. This isn’t an adventure story like Anchored (also an excellent story, but much different). This is a lazy, slow, will-they-or-won’t-they summer romance, perfect for reading right about now. Other GO characters pop up (Tracy and Shadwell as long-time sailing friends, Gabriel as, well, Gabriel) and the whole thing feels like a comfort read the first time you read it.
Okay, that's it for June. We'll be well into summer by the time I write my next set of fic recs. Maybe something about vacations? Or maybe something on the water? We'll see what floats my boat. (See what I did there? Yeah?)
I'm cross-posting this to my side blog for those who might be seeing this twice. Just so you know.
If you believe, like I do, that a TBR list can never be too long, you'll want to subscribe to @specselects for her monthly GO fan fic recs. And no, not just because she kindly chose one of my favorite fics this month.
I did a quick levitating cane magic trick for my photo op while dressed as Fell the Marvellous at FanExpo, and he said it was "Incredible!" which made my whole day!
My first job out of high school was (a very short lived) tour as a magician with my cousin, and I've been performing on and off for over twenty years and always feel excited to pull a few of my magic tricks out of my trunk!
Here's a link to me performing some of my tricks in better detail (My favorite part of performing as Fell is if I mess anything up, it's just part of the character!) https://www.tumblr.com/dragonfire42/777872235328389120/pulled-out-some-of-my-magic-tricks-today-heres?source=share
I also did some fanfiction writing about Fell the Marvellous too - here's links to those:
"Jiggery Pokery" - T, 6k, C - https://archiveofourown.org/works/58557715/chapters/149187064
"Marvellous (when you aren't looking" - T, 500 words, C -
https://archiveofourown.org/works/61011556
"Finding Fell" - T, 500 words, C -
https://archiveofourown.org/works/60380710
It was so great to attend so many great panels and meet so many old and new friends in person, it was truly a magical time! And meeting David Tennant was a dream come true!
(And I did a levitating magic trick as Mary Poppins!)
I love when fic writers use their real life experience and knowledge in their fics. Jiggery Pokery is a particularly fun story about Fell the Marvelous told from the POV of Prof Hoffman.
Trying to make sense of a certain television ending, Crowley and Aziraphale settle down in the bookshop with wine, cocoa, and a plate of Eccles cakes to discuss what they’ve just watched. A cosy, whimsical one-shot sprinkled with that Season One flavour.
anna_sun/Clo (she/her) is a prolific writer for the Good Omens fandom, having more than 40 works posted (and more to come). She started writing at an early age, but after a short break, the creativity was retriggered courtesy of two ethereal beings who graced our screens and never let go of Clo’s heart. Keep reading to learn more about what inspires all of Clo’s charming creations.
Clo shares a little bit about her life outside of Good Omens - plus she gives us some insight to her online handle (for those who may be curious):
“Hello hello hello! My name’s Chloé (or Clo) and I was born and raised in Québec, Canada, which is where I still reside. I’m currently renting a house with my best friend on the south shore of Montréal. But if my name's Chloé, why "anna_sun"? Well, Anna Sun by Walk the Moon was my favorite song at the time I made my AO3 account (in 2014. Yes, I was fifteen. No, we won’t talk about that). But “Anna Sun” is a favorite in my playlist to this day.
I work at a college library (not a librarian, just plain admin support, lol) and I really love it. I’m not sure what I want to do career-wise, but I might get my Master’s in English Lit or Information Science in the near future. TBD.
My hobbies and interests have been closely related to fandom ever since I was a teen. AKA, a whole lot of reading and writing and shipping. Other than that, I mean… I taught myself how to ride a skateboard a few years ago, had a fall, twisted my ankle, and never picked up a skateboard again. That pretty much sums up who I am as a person. I’m not very athletic or adventurous or anything, but I do love a nice hike or a short camping trip (emphasis on short, LOL).”
Glad you are OK after the fall! 😌 But super happy about all the fandom focus! 🥳 Which brings us to the next question - how exactly did Clo find out about our beloved ineffables?
“I think Prime just suggested it on my home page??? It’s all a bit of a blur. I was looking for something to watch and thought “huh, this looks like fun.” And INDEED, it was! I never even knew it existed before. It opened up a WHOLE new world. Even got me to start watching Doctor Who right after, because of course I immediately needed more DT in my life.
S2 had been out for a while already when I started watching, but I had no clue about the Final Fifteen. And I wrote my first fic for GO before I even finished my first watch, LOL. Can you imagine my fucking delight (and simultaneous heartbreak) when I realized they were PROPER canon? Ahhhhhhhhh!!
AND finding GO got me out of my 8-year hiatus. I hadn’t written a (creative) thing in forever. I’m very grateful for it.”
It is incredible how Good Omens (and of course, Mr. Tennant) brought the spark of creativity to many of its fans!! And Clo had a few other influences that fueled her imagination 😋:
“Honestly, probably hormones LMAO, but also mainly “for shits and giggles.” I was writing stories long before I started posting them online, just for me and some of my closest friends.
It wasn’t always smut but I’ve been reading smut for a looooong time, so I eventually moved on to writing my own stuff. Write the smut you want to see in the world. You get it, wink wink. (For instance, I have one B99 fic where I literally say in my Author’s Note: “I read all of the porn in the Jake/Amy tag and I wanted more so I decided to write some lmao.”)
But I’ve also written a few poetic-ish pieces I’m very proud of. I swear I’m not JUST a horndog. And, no matter what, there will ALWAYS be fluff. ALWAYS.”
Fluff is the stuff of life (and smut - we need that too 😏😂) On that note, Clo describes a few of her favorite writing tropes that she weaves into her stories:
“Porn with Feelings is an obvious one. Mostly it’s because I like to write about intimacy. I think there’s a huge difference between a kink fic just for the sake of kink, and a smut fic that dives deep into the characters’ thoughts/feelings. Both types serve their purpose, of course, but the latter is truly my personal favorite. Some of the best smut I’ve ever read has made me CRY because it was so beautifully intimate, and I love that.
I like humor, especially a slightly ridiculous premise that lends itself to a fun time for both me and my readers.
Not exactly Love at First Sight but I do LOVE a good fast pace, dizzying romance, especially for Human AUs. Getting Together fics that end with the blooming stage of the characters’ love story.
As for big, overarching themes? Self love and self worth. Getting over insecurities. Honesty and communication. You won’t find a lot of misunderstandings causing conflicts in my work—everything always gets resolved pretty quickly.”
Oooh those are all excellent themes! You can keep up with all of Clo’s works on AO3 - though you may find her lurking on a few other socials (links shared at the end of this post):
“I’m backsails on reddit, goannasun on tumblr, but I’m not super active on either of these platforms. You won’t find anything more than what’s on AO3, lol.”
When you visit Clo’s page, you’ll find a plethora of works to enjoy. Our readers had this question:
✨✨What's your favorite thing you've written?
“Stagger My Heart. 21k, E rated, Alternate Universe - Mythology.
Aziraphale is a pretty forest nymph. Crowley is a hunter who catches him bathing. Basically Strangers to Friends to Lovers.
This will always be the one that stands out for me. It’s not my most popular, and it wasn’t even beta’ed so it would probably benefit from some editing, but it was a real labor of love. Maybe that’s why it’s my favorite. I had such a clear vision of how I wanted the story to FEEL, and I’m very happy with the result. It’s beautiful, it’s emotional, it’s hot. It’s got it all.”
Definitely check this one out!!! And of course, if there was ever ANY doubt about who Clo is obsessed with from the GO world😇😈 …
“I basically only have eyes for Aziraphale and Crowley. Sorry not sorry. But I have a good mix of AUs and Canon stuff, although I'm slowly starting to write more AUs than anything else.
When I include other pairings in my works, they are background more than anything. I do have a soft spot for Muriel/Eric but I don’t think I’d ever write it.”
Muriel and Eric are too adorable!! 🥰 And we’re sure you would do fine if you ever decide to write for them!! But of course, many of us do LOVE our Ineffable Duo. One of our followers wanted to understand more about Clo’s writing of their characters:
✨✨Across the range of your own fics, what do you feel are the core qualities to your Crowleys and Aziraphales that ensures them of feeling in-character in your works?
“That’s such a great question!!
Aziraphale is always a bit of a bastard, because that’s how I know and love him to be. He keeps Crowley on his toes. He often has underlying insecurities, but I like him to be overall confident. He’s witty, a bit smug, but ultimately, he’s soft and kindhearted.
My Crowley is… often flustered, and always smitten with Aziraphale. I love him when he’s grumpy in a likeable way, but also when he’s a shameless flirt. He’s the type to make a crass joke and bark a laugh, but also the type to say something incredibly fucking sweet out of the nowhere. He’s a cuddler. He’s a menace. And he’s hilarious.
But, honestly, it’s not always about who they are individually for me, but mainly about their dynamic. That’s what makes them recognizable. Their back-and-forth, their longing, their love.”
We LOVE how much love they have for each other!!! And Clo is not running short on ideas for them anytime soon. We asked her if she had any more works in progress…
“ooooooooooo boi, yes!
I mean, I’m not the type to juggle multiple WIPs. I used to write, post, write, post… because all I wrote were one shots. It’s when I started writing longer works, with chapters, that the WIPs really started to add up.
I currently have 3 big WIPs. One’s an angsty longfic (very unusual for me, and will take forever to write), one’s a Childhood Friends to Lovers story, and the last one is an AU heavily inspired by Ella Enchanted.”
Ooooh! Ella Enchanted!! Can we see? Can we see? (thank you for sharing, Clo!!!!)
[Here’s a] preview from my ELLA ENCHANTED AU, cause it’s the most fun:
“My, my.” Aziraphale licked his lips, savouring the sight of Crowley’s blush darkening the highest points of his cheeks. The blush could have meant a few different things, but the evening had been so pleasant so far, so filled with good conversation and laughter, the energy between them so magnetic, that Aziraphale felt bolder than usual. “I didn’t think the prince could be so easily flustered.”
[...]
“Flustered? Me? M’not flustered.” Crowley said, only stuttering a little. “I’m just…”
“Distracted. Right.” Aziraphale giggled, shaking his head in amusement. “And tired as well, I suppose?”
“Yep. Bit drunk, too. So that explains that, doesn’t it?”
“Mmh. Of course.”
How strangely entertaining, to blatantly lie to one another and pretend to accept these lies as truths. How bizarrely exciting, to flirt between the lines of what is being said, knowing that what mattered weren’t the words themselves but the way they were said. Crowley asserting that he was not flustered was the last thing he should’ve said if he wanted Aziraphale to believe him. And Aziraphale saying of course with a proud, cheeky smile was the best way to react if he wanted to make sure Crowley knew he did not, in fact, believe him.
“Right, well, s’pr’bly time for bed, huh?” Crowley grumbled after a while of silence, wobbly on his legs when he stood up. It made Aziraphale jump up to help him find his balance, holding him by the shoulders in a steadying grip. He tried not to let his thumb wander with a mind of his own, he really did—he tried hard not to seek the soft skin visible above Crowley’s collarbone—but before he knew it he was making contact, and his heart promptly skipped a few beats.
The earth might also have stopped spinning, or maybe time itself came to a halt—as if the entire universe was holding its breath, waiting to see what was going to happen now.
But nothing happened. Nothing except for shy smiles, panicked blinking, and a few stifled, measured breaths.”
*swoon* This sounds sooo good!! 😍 With all these stories that Clo shares, are there any other hidden talents that she gives back to the fandom?
“Nope, I’m a certified one trick pony. I do get ideas for fanvids sometimes but never bother trying to execute them. They just play randomly in my head when I’m listening to music.”
It’s so very true as many (or all) of us know - EVERY SONG we hear now is about them!!!! That’s all a part of becoming ineffably obsessed! But as much as we hyperfixate on GO, inquiring minds are curious if there are other fandoms that Clo might be interested in:
“At the moment? Not really. I’m fully focused on GO.
But the last fandom I was REALLY into was Black Sails. I can’t recommend that show enough. It doesn’t have the whimsical aspects of GO, but as far as queer love stories go, it takes the cake for me (and yes, CANON queer characterS, PLURAL). 4 seasons of great writing and many, many, many characters to root for. Good balance of plot elements, of twists, of romance, and of character growth. It’s so good! In fact I’m thinking of rewatching it soon.”
Black Sails is right up any pirate-lovers street!!
As we wrap up this lovely interview with Clo, she leaves us with some phenomenal and helpful words for all those who might give in to the temptation and have a go at writing their own tales🤗 :
“The obvious: Keep writing. And write the things you want to read. Do it for FUN. It’s hard not to care about stats but it’s useless to focus on them. If you’re not having fun, what’s the point?
For aspiring authors: Start small. Come up with a simple premise, one setting, one scene. A conversation, a confession, a first kiss, whatever. Find the details you want to focus on as you imagine the scene unfolding. Make it neat. And don’t forget to be proud of it.
I also think fanfics are such a great starting point for authors. The characters are there, the dynamic is established. You can easily pick a scene from canon and build on it. I wrote my first GO fic immediately after watching that “shades of grey” conversation in S2. I had ideas for how the scene could’ve gone and they simply demanded to be written!
Finally, for anyone: Be open to finding inspiration anywhere. My ideas usually come to me in the form of a single line of dialogue, or a random line of prose. “No Food in the Library” is literally a poster on the wall where I work. I started writing “A Time and a Place” with a single thought in mind: Crowley wanks in the back office of the bookshop because he’s sexually frustrated… and everything else flowed from there. “Experiments in Kissing” was inspired by my own experiences, and mostly because I thought: Wouldn’t it be fun for them to start making out whenever they’re bored, just because? These three fics are some of my favorite fics I’ve ever written. They did not require ten hours of brainstorming and outlining. I was just having pure, honest fun.”
Clo, it’s been so much fun hosting you this week!! Thank you for all your works and all the love you give back to this wonderful fandom!! You are a treasure ☺️❤️
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to YAP about myself/my works <3 Thank you!”
Here's some links where you can continue to follow anna_sun:
started writing for go after season 2 came out (or after season 3 came out! hi!)
don’t have a big ao3 subscriber/tumblr following count

you’re not any less valued for any or all of these things<3 you are important to the fandom! you are appreciated and a necessary, nourishing part of the ecosystem<3
reblog this with an underrated go fic (less than 10k hits perhaps). could be by you or someone else!
Well said. Damn, all my fics are under 10K. But I'd love to shout out a beautifully written and creative fic that people are absolutely sleeping on. It's Marginalia: The Nice and Accurate Story of Agnes Nutter by @dbacklot99. The background of Agnes Nutter is a lovely story and well worth a read. - https://archiveofourown.org/works/69193051/chapters/179346091
GO Fan Fiction Friday (29 May 2026) - Reading Dirty Books
Some fic writers like writing smut. And some fic writers like writing our favorite characters reading (and writing) smut. This week, let's look at stories in which our pair read (and write) dirty books.
We'll start with The Angel Line (E) by @fancytrinkets. While shopping for audiobooks to sell in his shop, Aziraphale's attention is caught by a familiar name. Does Crowley narrate smutty audiobooks? Why yes, yes he does. The writer does a great job with Crowley's voice and the fun asides. I could absolutely hear David Tennant reading the words in my head.
SparrowVixen wrote In words I dwell in darkness, with words you lift me up (T) in which Crowley takes up writing romance stories inspired by time he's spent with Aziraphale. Aziraphale is horrified when he discovers them, but not for the reason you might think.
Do you enjoy bad sex puns as much as I do? If so, you'll love "The Devil Made Me Do Him" and other recommended titles (E) by AppleSeeds. When Crowley repairs Aziraphale's e-reader, he discovers some provocative recommendations based on what he's already read. What follows is some ridiculously silly, pun-filled, smut and a much needed conversation between our pair.
@copperplatebeech wrote an entire series called The Rake (E). It begins with Crowley discovering that Aziraphale wrote erotica during their estrangement in the 19th century. In future stories, they resurrect Aziraphale's nom de plume (Chasten Angell) as a way to discuss their fantasies in a safe way. The writer is so good at capturing the tone of a Victorian tale, making for fun reads.
Are you ready for some human AUs on the same theme? More under the gif.
Next, we have Between a Book and a Hard Place (E) by LCWrites. Aziraphale and Crowley have a quickie at an event, never expecting to see each other again. Then Crowley gets the job of narrating a book of Victorian erotical written by Aziraphale. Will sparks fly again?
Aziraphale is a popular, queer romance writer in and now all of my garden is grown in lavender (E) by @ilikeblue. His fans want a glimpse inside his perfect romantic life. Unfortunately, it's all a lie. Will pretending his gardener Crowley is his partner fool anyone?
We're back to AppleSeeds with Passion on the Projector (M). When Crowley enters the room where Aziraphale just finished his lecture, he discovers some interesting material on the overhead projector. Apparently, Professor Fell was reading smut without realizing his laptop was still connected to the projector. Oops.
Finally, In the Margins: The Other Anniversary by @thisisshiny has Aziraphale and Crowley celebrating an anniversary by reading erotica together. You could read this on its own. But it's part of a series. You should start at the beginning. It's terrific!
Thanks to GOAD on reddit where a post inspired this theme.
If you enjoyed these recs, follow me so you never miss out. Remember to express appreciation to writers by leaving kudos and comments. The fandom is the heart of this story we love so much.
The premise is that Crowley accidentally texts the man he met years earlier. They keep texting, despite living in different countries. Doesn't it sound like fun?
The shock waves from Good Omens Season 3, or The Finale, or whatever that was continue to resonate, and several conversations have referenced the way things actually began to get weird during season 2 -- culminating, of course, in That Kiss, which I view (ymmv) as part gratuitous infliction of distress on the fandom, because a Certain Person enjoys (per some very credible public testimony) reeling people in and then hurting them, and part simple cynical orchestration of clamor for a conclusion (ring another one up on the register, boys).
The book was complete in itself. Season 1, impressively faithful to the book (credit where credit is due), was complete in itself. Yes, Crowley predicted a future Big One that would be "all of us (humanity and those on humanity's side) against All Of Them (the power structure of corporate Heaven and Hell)." But Armageddon was spiked, Satan was undercut by his own intended heir, and Aziraphale and Crowley -- who at best helped, but endeared themselves to us in the process -- were last seen sitting at the Ritz, enjoying Earth's luxuries and looking forward to retirement free of Celestial interference, whether it involved simply hanging out together, or a cottage by the sea, choose your own adventure. And quite a lot of us have decided that canon ended there.
I've certainly lost any faith that there was ever a serious outline for a sequel. Season 2 was supposedly a "bridge" to a "fully plotted out conclusion;" season 3, when we got there, was a thematically antithetical incident salad that made zero sense even if you allow for the compression into one-third the intended runtime. And that second season itself was six episodes of thin plot and a mostly forgettable supporting cast; the humor (again, ymmv) was strained, the fan service embarrassingly heavy-handed, and the proliferation of Mysterious Inconsistencies was just... exhausting. But the fandom responded with a lot of fics that tried to be less flimsy and more thoughtful; most of all, to resolve the "end of act II breakup" in a credible way (something that season 3 Never. Did). For this week's Throwback, I toss out three of my 2023 offerings, all rated T.
I'll Wait -- Aziraphale's back in Heaven. Crowley's trying to pick up the pieces on Earth. Both find that there's time to consider all the unsaid things.
And Muriel keeps finding things in the bookshop.
Dark Roast Espresso At The Purgatory Cafe -- The Supreme Archangel's swamped with paperwork and droning meetings.
And then, suddenly, he's in a grimy caff, across the table from the demon who walked away.
It's neither Heaven, nor Hell, nor Earth as they know it. But it's a place they can talk. And they need to.
Don't Look Back -- Hell has something the Supreme Archangel wants, if he has what it takes to retrieve it.
“You promised,” said Aziraphale.
Shax didn’t command the iron throne the way Beelzebub had. She was too conscious of occupying it, like a just-engaged girl gesturing with her newly beringed hand. Not asking you to look, but looky, looky, look.
It was an odd thing to be thinking about with Crowley chained on his knees between them.
