au where instead of surviving the assassination via the briefcase, pocket is turned into a vampire by an unknown sire. the last thing they remember was being shot, then waking up at a bus terminal in the dead of night, drenched in rainwater with the bullet wound still in their chest.
thanks to pocket's morals, they struggle with being a vampire and find even consensual feeding to be off-putting. in order to get by, pocket rarely ever indulges in the new abilities that their vampirism has given them in order not to expend too much energy and passes as a very gaunt-looking human. they have no interest in the vampire courts and is still focused on taking fairfax industries back from their father
because of their new affinity with bats, the briefcase will no longer open for them, but it's still better than their father getting it.
in this au, mina still becomes a vampire but is absolutely infuriated to find out that they did not only survive the assassination, but become a vampire with better social standing than her. in order to "make up for their mistake", pocket agrees to help her become viscount, figuring that they have a little bit more time now that their father (hopefully) thinks they're dead.
i also think that drifter is everyone's uncle so he takes them under their wing, especially since pocket dgaf about vampire society and is also a homeless person like him.
