2022. still proud of this one btw <3
I need people to stop buying into the idea that "small business" = "ethical business." Many small businesses are wonderful, and absolutely deserve your support, but plenty others aren't. If you're genuinely concerned about where you spend your money, you have to do your due diligence even if a business isn't a mega-corporation.
The lady who owned the small business I used to work at was horrible to work for, gave free coffee to cops, treated us all like shit, and got pissed if you didn't worship the ground she walked on for giving you a job. I would never work for her again, and if someone asked me if they should apply to work for her, I'd tell them to run for the fucking hills. The turnover rate was atrocious when I worked there, and I wouldn't be surprised if she still burns through employees at an unholy rate.
Small businesses are just as capable of worker abuse as big businesses, and they frequently get away with it because people refuse to believe that their beloved Mom & Pop Shop is run by rancid assholes who think Jeff Bezos has the right idea about how to run a business.
Small business owners CAN be better! They CAN be pro-worker and pro-union! But it's not inherent, and small business owners can be some of the most abusive pieces of shit you've met in your life.
Also, by the same token: nonprofits are absolutely not immune to mistreating their workers either.
I am fairly sure I have residual trauma from forcing myself to work at a small business Health Foods store where my coworker continuously and relentlessly spewed awful, autism-phobic rhetoric to the staff and to the customers - just daily, talking relentlessly about how none healthy foods would give your kids autism
and yeah, he was the most virulent antivaxxer
And me, not the most neurotypical worker, standing ten feet from the guy, angry and incapable of speaking up for fear of just losing my goddamn sanity and possibly my job
and no, the store owner did not in fact discourage this guy from talking out his ass even directly to the people who just want some kombucha, he wasnt as actively selling those ideas to his customers but he was of the same mind behind closed doors
anyways, he wasnt doing well physically - i remember that clearly
IMHO I think the sneakiest failing that an author could do is favor a character so much that they can no longer bully them
And I dont mean like lets put this character through a traumatic experience that breaks all the Geneva conventions. Which lets be frank, thats just another way us authors show our favoritism
But i mean, bullying the way an older sibling would to a younger sibling or vice versa. Ribbing yet sincere. If you cant tease a character with genuine criticism to back it up but no malicious intent, then consider stepping back
I do believe that many a good character development gets ruined bc the author cannot fathom that their character is a petty idiot sometimes

Bruh remember when Damian didn’t have his mask so he used his nosebleed to make a mask before he threw hands- Yeah that was so fucking metal

Bright boy
me pitching for dc: yeah i think damian needs a baby goat. that’s it that’s the story.
A peculiar tapping sound wakes Bruce from his jet-lagged slumber. His dream fades away slowly, and he lies there for a few moments still trying to decipher the Morse code message for the case until he realizes that there is no code, just the noise from the hallway. He drags himself out of bed to investigate.
Opening his door, he looks left, then right, just in time to see a very small tan-and-white goat bounce around the corner and out of sight.
He merely lets out a tired exhale before closing the door and returning to bed.
Bruce groggily enters the kitchen in search of food and coffee. Alfred is nowhere to be seen, but Damian is there, kneeling on the floor with the baby goat in his lap, feeding it from a bottle.
It’s a precious sight. Any concerns about his son turning their home into a zoo always melt away when he sees how gently Damian cares for his pets.
“Welcome home, Father. How was your trip to London?”
Bruce reaches down and tousles Damian’s hair as he walks by. “Uneventful,” he replies, pressing buttons on the espresso machine until it starts brewing. He grabs a muffin from the tray cooling on the counter. “How were things here?”
Damian shrugs unconcernedly. “Calendar Man was plotting something for Easter. Grayson and I are still trying to figure out what, exactly, but we caught him with a truck full of baby animals. Mostly chickens and rabbits, but also some sheep, and this little one here.”
“Where are the rest of them?” Bruce asks. He imagines the cave infested with chickens, and a feeling of dread pools in his stomach.
“We dropped them all off at nearby farms, except for Richard.”
The dread dissolves, replaced with amusement. “Richard?”
“Grayson made me promise I would name the next animal after him,” explains Damian. “He was offended when I called the injured fox “Tod”, even though I told him that it had nothing to do with our Todd. It’s simply a term for a male fox.”
“I think he may have been joking,” says Bruce, hiding a smile behind his coffee cup.
Damian rolls his eyes. “So he says, now. But I made a promise.”
Milk starts leaking from the bottle and Damian pulls it away to resecure the rubber top. The goat in his arms yells in annoyance at his feeding being interrupted. Bruce is reminded of the loud exclamations of a certain young Robin and thinks the name may be quite fitting.
“I suppose you can keep the goat,” Bruce tells Damian.
“I know. I am.”
Bruce continues, patiently. “Once he’s bigger he’ll have to stay out in the new barn. It’ll be good for Batcow, she could use some company.”
Damian is skilled at keeping a straight face, but Bruce is his father, and Batman, so he doesn’t miss the telltale flicker of guilty panic, no matter how quickly Damian hides it.
Bruce doesn’t ask. He resists his exasperation and calmly savours a sip of coffee. Maybe after this cup he’ll be ready to deal with whatever creature, or creatures, Damian is keeping in that barn.
a bit of a creative process by nebezial
Dick and Damian’s Batman and Robin was the very first western comic series I ever followed. I remember hearing about Bruce’s death and then becoming very interested in the new dynamics of Batman and Robin. It’s thanks to these two that I entered this amazing fandom.
Dick has been such a wonderful big brother to Damian. Through Dick, Damian has learnt so much about how to be a person, a friend, and a hero.
I’m gonna miss these two as the dynamic duo! To me, THEY are Batman and Robin.
Hold on.
Jason Todd as a hostage.
i know bad parenting is a definite meme in all franchises
but sometimes, like, the parents aren’t terribad awful you know? sometimes, they are trying their best - even if their best isn’t peak parenting. it doesn’t always mean they’re abusive or toxic. sometimes, it means they’re just clueless
and honestly im a little bored of irredeemable parents, like how come the moment they’re a parent, suddenly they have to be pitch perfect from the get go, like they’re still people with a job - that job is taking care of another human and like any other job, some people learn fast and others need a firm, loving boot to the head

bruce literally cut ra’s out of the photo o m f g what a dramatic child
i still have so many questions abt these panels. when did ra’s and talia sit down for a family photo. how did bruce get his hands on a copy. like
Like Ra's wouldn't give out photos of himself as presents. "Here Bruce, to remember me by." He even sprays it with a bit of his favorite cologne just to be extra. "Look how distinguished and clearly excellent we are. In case you forget. Not that it's possible to forget. But you know. In case. ;)"
Nine things about being brought back from the dead
You will be cold
You will wake up screaming, you all do.
Your entire body will throb, the pain will eventually subside; being brought back is never a painless task.
Do not get up immediately, you will be nauseous and your body will need time to readjust to this realm.
Ask for more blankets, you will feel very cold.
You will not remember how you died, do not ask.
Do not ask the practitioner how they performed the ritual, this is considered bad luck and you will not last long.
Your loved ones will be ecstatic to have you back, consider this a blessing.
Thank the practitioner and let them be on their way, if they do not look you in the eye consider this a bad omen.
