Ewan McGregor appearing as Obi-Wan Kenobi for Comic Relief 2023 (x)
"Don't we all in the end?" she stated while looking at the card, a furrow in her brows deepened once the man revealed his location. A tunnel between the library and the town hall? "Yeah they could." Rose replied almost automatically, her mind going crazy with this discovery. Why these places out of all? What mysteries Bar Harbor held? And above all, why?
"That would be very unlikely, don't you think?" Rose said looking straight at the man's eyes, he was young - well for an old vampire like her - and seemed like the kind of human who denied that which surrounded him in order to keep his mundane life.
"Well, what do we know with this? The unlikely option you shared is one, perhaps the upperhands in Town Hall are hiding more than 'normal' leaders is two, maybe this is just a cult thing, could be three..." she began to theorize, "What is certain, is maybe, this wasn't a coincidence and we probably were allowed to find this...Just a though anyway."
"It's all anyone wants" that he knew to be true, even if home right now hadn't been the happiest of places. He didn't really know what to think these days. Camped out listening to a storm though, that really wasn't all that ideal. "Might be better not to mention it though... we don't know how safe this place is, and it might cause a lot more confusion afterwards over people possibly missing" that was the last thing anyone needed, even if he wanted to go down and see if the rest of his family were there.
He shrugged, until recently he'd have said mermaids were unlikely, except now this had happened. He didn't know what to believe anymore, only that all of it was making want to run far away. He wouldn't, he couldn't do that to his family, not now.
Perhaps she was right, but all of this felt very confusing, and he wasn't sure how much sense any of it made. Then again, an unknown tunnel with a mysterious card in it... it all seemed fantastical to begin with. "Why? Why would anyone want us to find this, it doesn't mean anything to either of us. I've been on this island for decades, I know most of the stories about it, and still nothing" although as he was now realising, there was a lot he didn't know. So then, why him? And why her?
"I suppose you've got a point there," he chuckled in agreement, thanking her with his eyes when she politely freed him from the handshake. "Lovely to meet you, Aniya."
"Do you have family on the island? Are they safe in a shelter?"
"Suppose that gets in your head after a while. I'm sure by tomorrow we'll all be back to normal" or least she had to try and be positive. Thinking of being trapped in here for much longer, that was terrifying to her. So many strangers.
"No, it's just me here" and she could imagine how that sounded. The truth was so much darker, she didn't even know if she had any family, she couldn't remember a thing. "I came over as a tourist on a whim" that much was true, she had needed to stop being a burden. "How about you? Id your family safe?"
She scowled, her dark eyes looking across at him angrily. There was a storm in them almost as powerful as the one outside the doors.
"Why would you say something like that?" She glanced around, making sure nobody had overheard him - especially the younger ones. "There are still people missing, not to mention those still grieving the losses we've faced recently."
Huh, perhaps the fear wasn't as strong as he first thought. Funny though, it was when it came to other people.
"You're the one calling it beautiful" he replied with a shrug. "Though enlighten me on what I said. That people aren't here, and risk of life? Everyone's already aware of that, and has nothing to do with any of... exploding buildings".
"Oh, not so weird then" she said almost in a whisper, not like she was afraid but it was good she didn't had to keep her guard up, a human was just that in the end.
Rose turned with an arched brow to his followed questions, she looked back at the way she came from before facing the man. She'd supposed it either led you to a new chamber as it was common in old architecture, but this was more interesting, tunnels were popular back in her days as well.
"Yes, everyone is growing quite...anxious, more like...desperate. Just fun times." she explained though she knew he wasn't hiding in the same place, a smile of curiosity crossed her pale face, "Why, where do you com from?"
Then she eyes at the card between them, "Of course not, we clearly just arrived at the same time. Odd, a bit." she took the card, knitted her brows and offered it at him to have a better look as well, "I'm a tourist so I lack Bar Harbor's history and legends, does it mean anything to you?"
He supposed he could see the logic in her line of thought, and yet still it was confusing to say the least why that would be her first line of thought. Though really, from the sounds of it this was a tunnel between the two, and now he had more questions about why this was here in the first place. Perhaps something back from centuries ago.
"People just want to go home" least he did, because then he could least see if the rest of his family went home, and he could work things out from there. No, for now he had to believe they were all fine, and all safe. Anything else could wait. "The town hall. Guess this at least means people can check in on their loved ones if have no signal" that was a start if nothing else. Try and think logically, that was all he could do today.
He shrugged, alright she was right but it was all so weird. But a lot of things around here were weird right now it was a lot to take in. He moved forward, taking it to see if it rang any bells. "No, means nothing to me. Might have been left down here with whoever last came through I suppose. But..." but there was something eerie about it. Strange, very strange.
What a lucky night! Even Rose surprised herself with such thoughts, the man before her, seemed very cautious but even with the light he brought she could see the features he had perfectly, if only she didn't looked like someone that could send him to jail in this era. Anyhow, she focused once again, raised a hand and smiled almost awkwardly.
"Hello there." she said while approaching, "You don't happen to live here under the library do you?" she asked before noticing the card just between them, "With...exotic esoteric hobbies perhaps? "
A hidden cave below the library, this was obviously something made years, perhaps centuries ago, she passed a few fingers over the stone around them quickly before paying full attention to the...human before her.
"I mean solitude can be comforting true...but still, humans do need relationships and things..."
"Live under?" that wasn't what he was expecting her to say. "No I live in a house above ground" and what a strange conversation. Perhaps he might realise the actual conversation under normal circumstances but he was caught slightly off-guard by it, and the mysterious card on the floor, had that been there the whole time?
That was when he realised what she had said. "Did you say the library?" he'd just assume she had come through the same way he had, but that had all been sealed up when he had found it. "Is that where you came from?" what exactly was this place?
He supposed she was right, though right now it was his relationship that was giving him a headache. He needed to try not to think about that right now, this was more important, least he needed to pretend to be.
"Is that yours?" he asked, gesturing to the unknown item.
"Town hall or not, people still like to get in other's business without permission." A smirk appeared shortly on her face, now he told jokes, at least dark humor might connect them somehow.
"Maybe safe for the present ones, yet not everyone is here. And even those who are here, is safety truly guaranteed? There are many lurkers in the shadows growing anxious, desperate...hungry." Besides there were many annoying humans, somehow the storm felt like the better choice.
Ahri stared directly at the eyes of the man as he spoke, fascinating, she could learn that from him. Detailed, confident, and sneaky. The fairy smiled once again, this time mischievously, he couldn't be a human, she was enjoying this. "From a storyteller to another, nice story. Almost too perfect, exact, straight to the point. I could even offer an applause." and she did, just one.
"Fine, if you're so eager, I'll tell. But, beforehand, promise it. Do you know how to keep a secret?"
"Human nature" he replied, though he was well aware neither of them were human. That was far too obvious. "You get this many people stuck in one place, with no privacy for other things, what do you think will happen?" it was funny really, in a sad way. Though he imagined it could be argued that was what he was doing. Really this was something else though.
He shrugged, just because he knew what he'd do in the situation didn't mean that other's would do the same thing. Funny really. "Depends if you believe in things that go boo in the night. And if they are real, then they've kept hidden for this long. Think that means they can stay hidden for one more night" least he could, he knew Natalia and her brother had never been so subtle. That was their choice.
"Best stories have an element of truth to them" that was what he had always believed, how he always lived. "Besides, none of what I said was a lie" it was just omitting a lot of details. It made things a lot simpler that way. Her sarcasm though, that was as least entertaining if nothing else.
"Depends on the secret" some weren't worth keeping, he did know that. "If it's worth keeping, then sure".
@cursethefadingofthelight location; fated hidden passage
It had been a few hours of mixing with the people around town, even some tourists, and the obvious other creatures, the storm didn't seem to fade anytime soon. The whole, playing fool ignorant and worst of, youngster grew tiresome, and so Rose decided to wander off yet again around the library. There were some very interesting themes and series of books, she'd read many of them, some she ignored due to the lack of reliability on certain events.
A pale hand run over the book covers and shelves, humming a melody of old, one that has been her companion, certain of even before her rebirth. Lost in it, she didn't realize how deep into the library she walked, the place was getting darker, though her vampiric vision didn't gave her any trouble. Then, she felt it. A bookcase that didn't felt like the other ones, with furrowed brows she checked it, investigated it, and to her surprise, a shelf bookcase became a door.
Rose turned around, there was no one nearby, at least yet, she'd seen many of these traps before in her lifetime, and they always led to something more. The vampire wanted to find out what was that more.
"Finally something fun huh?" she smirked as she walked inside what looked like a hidden tunnel perhaps? "Just what are you for?" she said mainly to herself, walking for an unknown time, stopping only when she sensed and if her hearing was correct, Rose wasn't alone anymore.
With no word from Clarissa he was getting worried. He'd managed to get texts through from River, although he assumed that Clarissa had gone to the library. She had to be there surely. There was no point panicking if she was completely fine, that wouldn't do anyone any good. Still, he had been practically staring a hole into his phone, as if that would mean he received a text or anything faster.
Eventually he had started walking, no one really seemed to be paying any attention and he had started walking through places usually kept out of bounds. Well he wasn't really paying attention, and no one else seemed to care. That was until he walked into some small office, clearly not one ever used anymore for much other than storage, and old desk, with a computer that was outdated even in the nineties.
Out of habit he had walked over to the bookshelf, looking at the names of the books. Well he hadn't gone into his line of work without having an interest. And that was when something truly bizarre happened, and he was looking at a tunnel. Well, that was unexpected.
Checking hid phone's battery, and satisfied he had plenty left, he turned on the torch. Walking slowly down, curiosity he supposed, and a distraction from the lack of messages. He wasn't sure how long he'd been walking for when he saw someone in the light. "Hello?" this was strange, she didn't seem to have any light.
“That’s quite alright,” Natalia’s voice softened, nearly sounding like a hum of a sweet melody, “If you’re looking for a place to be alone, you’ve found it.” She glanced at all the books surrounding her, piling so high into the darkness that it looked like it never ended. “I’m sure within a few hours you could get completely lost in another world. No better way to pass the time, if you ask me… and you are more than welcome to be alone here in my presence.”
Least the other woman didn't seem to be a threat, but then she knew that looks could be deceiving. You didn't know what was going on in people's heads, that was something that terrified her. "Not especially... just restless I suppose" that seemed the best explanation for it, though really she wasn't sure how to explain. "Oh that's alright, I don't want to disturb you, storm has to let up eventually" though from the sound of it the rain was still beating heavily against the window. Odd, the sound of it was calming.

Ahri could feel her pulse raising and listen her heart on his ears, this man...Was no fool. The fairy remembered her recent movements, trying to find a piece of imperfections, something she missed, was it...Her persistence with a dog she doesn't even know? As a creature of nature and magic it was in her DNA, since she was born.
The ebony haired eyed him as he spoke, to be fair, he didn't sound like many men around. "You are an interesting one, I must say." A smirk crossed her features, a part of her felt proud of being a cause of interest.
"Whatever you sir may think to know, sometimes is better to not get too involved. Believe me, at best case scenario someone might get hurt." There were many other kind of beings in the world, but hers were...Taken away from this realm and only recently freed. Maybe they could bring a little attention to those who missed their existence. She released an exhale she held and walked cautiously towards the other to whisper close to him, "How about this? I tell you if you tell me first about you...stranger?"
He'd been called many things over the years, interesting was one of his favourites and one that came up a lot. It was one of the less insulting ones anyway sometimes. Though really he knew that one could be backhanded. It usually only got used if he showed his true nature, normally he was just told he was an arsehole. Probably true, but he had lived too long, and been hunted partly for what he was, partly for who he was. It was difficult to remain kind after all that.
"So I've been told" he replied with a shrug. "Sometimes it is, but we're in a building full of people, if anyone tries anything in here then it is everyone's business. Call it the safest place on the island for more than one reasons" and also the worst place to be. The temptation to just walk out into the storm remained.
Her heart was beating fast, this was at least entertaining if nothing else. Though as she got closer, the smell definitely was familiar, and he couldn't place it. That was irritating, his memory must be going. "Hardly anything exciting, got stuck on this island after the church exploded. No family, got lucky with the stock market so can travel around" well that wasn't totally true, apparently he had family... he wasn't going to talk to a stranger about that. "Your turn".
She was shocked at how serious the girl seemed to be with her question. "Nah, I don't really believe in all that stuff - do you?"
Did she? She always said she didn't believe in any of that stuff and yet she would often find herself asking gods for help to understand her prophetic dreams. So maybe she did believe in something, whether or not that something was gods, she didn't really know.
Did she believe? She didn't think that she did, least she didn't now anyway. But there was a whole past she didn't know about, and she didn't know what she believed in then.
"No... not really" that seemed the safer answer right now she supposed. "But you see weather like this, and you can't help but wonder if there is something. More likely just science I suppose, it's just... eerie here" that much was very true, and so many stories.
She was startled by the sudden voice beside her - even more concerned when she saw who it was it belonged to. The gentleman from the dock the other day. There was something strangely frightening about him, as though when she was near him all of the instincts in her body were telling her she needed to swim- sorry, run - away as fast as possible. It was almost exactly the same feeling as when swimming and being approached by a tiger shark or a moray eel.
Shifting in her spot slughtly, she looked up at him. "I've never seen a storm like this before...Is it wrong to describe it as beautiful?"
Was she actually scared of him? Well that was entertaining if nothing else. It wasn't as if he could do anything whilst they were here, too many witnesses. Besides, she didn't smell human, and feeding off of anyone else usually caused far too many other issues. Though really, that did all depend on how long they were stuck here. He'd gone through bloodlust before, now he worked hard on never letting that happen again.
He glanced out at the skies, "depends on how many people die tonight. You think they've actually managed to get everyone to safety... I don't".
Justin gave the girl an apologetic look, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Taking the folded towel and placing it back on the table, he picked up a stack of candles and a box of matches.
"Actually that would be great, I'm gonna do a lap and make sure everyone's got some kind of light before it starts to get too dark. You can help with that if you'd like?" He awkwardly balanced the candles in one hand, holding out the other for a shake. "I'm Justin."
Aniya shook her head, "not your fault. Just the atmosphere. How most horror stories start isn't it? A dark and stormy night..." least the ones she had heard, admittedly those were few and far between, but she had been trying to do anything to jog her memories.
"Oh you don't need to do that" she replied, seeing he was close to dropping everything. She didn't really understand the custom anyway. "Sure, I can do that" it was the right thing to do, and she had to try. "Aniya".
⤷ well, shit. it's still not the worst thing his dad had caught him in the middle of. nope, that was probably the smoothie incident in which he forgot to put the blender lid back on. ❝i did not lose tad.❞ no, no, he did. but he wouldn't admit it. ❝he got startled by the storm and i haven't seen him in, i don't know, twenty minutes. have you seen mom? she's like... the animal whisperer.❞ maybe because he had a habit of bringing strays home when he was younger, he didn't know, but animals loved her even if she didn't like the idea of another one in the house. ❝in fact, is she here? i don't think i've seen her.❞
"So you lost Tad?" he repeated, waiting for him to give a straight answer. That was what it had sounded like anyway. He understood bringing him here, but honestly, how did someone lose an iguana? "She isn't, though I imagine she went to the library, it's nearer the bakery after all. No signal though, can't get through" and he was worried, he was trying not to be, she was sensible, but that was harder when there was the storm of the century outside. Long as the kids didn't realise they were as an issue with their relationship. "Did you least bring Tad's food?"
⤷ storms had always been special in her pack. having so many people nearby, and the pond business, made it hard to enjoy them. ❝thor has always been a testy one but he makes great storms.❞ did gods exist? the might as well, seeing as she was a werewolf and the woman she's serving coffee to was far from human herself. ❝let me know if you change your mind, alright?❞ ada finished pouring the coffee before moving to shift her weight between her two feet to stand a bit more comfortable. ❝i'm alright. i think i'd rather be out in the storm but rules are rules, right?❞ hard to enforce them when you break them yourself.
Thor? That had been outdated even when she had last been here. Still people could believe what they wanted. "True, but it isn't improving people's moods" or maybe that was her. Negative energy being let off or something? No, this time she wasn't actually doing a thing, the negativity was all real, and it was delicious. "Alright" not that she would, there wasn't really anyone who'd notice. "That they are... why don't you sit down for a minute, you can't keep looking after everyone if you're close to dropping yourself".
At the light he winced, fuck was he really so out of it right now that he hadn't realised it was dark? Least with this he had good reason, it was hardly everyday you found out you'd married a mermaid, especially after years of having everyone think your father was insane for believing in mermaids. "I don't have an answer for that, not one you want" he wasn't sure he could yet stop avoiding, it was all a mess. At that, part of him wanted to point out they'd needed to talk twenty years ago. That just wasn't him though, and as angry and upset as he might be, being cruel had never really been in his nature. "Well... think we both know what I'd say, so you'd probably better do the talking" maybe there was something in this he wasn't seeing, though what it was he didn't think he'd ever understand.
JUST what would she tell him? She doubted anything she'd tell him would really matter all that much but she had to try. Why? Clarissa might've not told him what she was but that didn't mean that she hadn't loved him any less. If anything, she loved him more. "I didn't tell you what I am because I wanted to keep you safe, Dougie. Your father was safe on this island," even if it meant being labeled crazy because of it, "he chose to stay here but if you knew? I couldn't protect you from my people if you decided to leave it, nor could I protect you from anything else because whether you believe it or not, I'm not the worst species out there. I was supposed to go back but I stayed. I stayed for you," When had the tears begun? She didn't know but now, her eyes burned in the way a human's would if it had salt water in them.
"I stayed for our family and yeah, Aria's a mermaid but maybe you should ask why she's with us and not out there, raised by people like us. You can hate me because I didn't tell you but please, please don't hate Aria for my desire to keep you safe." She might've been yelling, just a smidge, but that was the truth. "If this is it, fine, but she's still your daughter."
CALL her a coward but being so overcome with emotions, she tossed her hands up and growled with anger. Then there were puffs of breath that sounded more like low sobs. "I'll stay at my store and if you can ever find the words to speak you know where it is." Then, she turned to leave their shared home with a slamming door to follow her.
