i just love how tim respects darry. It is so important to me that in the context of rumbles etc. (gang/greaser related things) they see eye-to-eye although they are two very different people ambitions-wise and in their personal choice of life. Yet at the same time, i think they are rather similar to each other: they’re both intelligent, emotionally distant, calculating and leaders.

Tbh i think darry sees these similarities (or at least perceives them even if he might not see them for what they are) and is afraid of recognising himself in someone like tim shepard because he knows that - should he want it - he could lose himself in being a greaser for the rest of his life. The life of a hood in Tulsa offers a sort of constant: the social divisions remain rigid, you know just where you stand.

But darry was never one to choose comfort over his beliefs and so he simply makes sure to keep it very clear that he is nothing like tim shepard (in everything but personality).

its kinda funny how we’re forgiving of the boy’s flaws (let’s not pretend they’re all perfect little angel boys uwuwu) but then we hyper fixate on one thing sandy/Sylvia did and decide they are the devil incarnate and unworthy of any love despite how one single thing they’ve done shouldn’t define them.

sure cheating is terrible but as I have said time and time before, there are reasons that cheating happens and I highly doubt Sandy decided out of the blue to just cheat on soda given the history between them. Having been on both sides of this situation I want to say there are certain nuances that are involved in a relationship we as a reader can only assume because SE Hinton decided not to flesh out any girl characters and we are seeing this through an unreliable narrator.

It really does them a disservice for the girls to be just labeled unworthy and pushed aside in this fandom when some of us would rather sympathize with Bob who almost committed murder???? cheating is not as bad as attempted murder??? like lmao what??? 

If we are capable of overlooking attempted murder/ abusive behavior then uh how bout we stop trashing girls
