I miss the library so much!
Days 3 and 4 of 100 days of productivity were a bit rough due to sleep deprivation.
Day 3: my huge bachelor thesis presentation went okay. We have to plan the experiment in small groups (bit wrote the thesis itself on our own and research on our own). My group isn't all that proactive or productive and they are stressing me out. But we got it over with.
Day 4: Participated in a psychology faculty meeting as a student embassador and I am so proud of myself for speaking up as often as I did.
Then, I did a bit of work for one of my volunteer projects
I also met up with the PhD student that's supposed to help us with our experiment. He helped clear some things up, which helped calm my nerves. Additionally, he also liked my stimuli and the set up that I planned so far, so that's great!
I couldn't motivate myself to go properly food shopping but otherwise had a productive day!
The highlight of today: I reconnected with my best friend from school, who I somehow have lost touch with in the last semester. It felt incredible talking to her again and I miss her dearly now.
Studying in trains is so atmospheric!
Today I got up before 6am, took several trains back to my place of study and sat trough 9 h of meetings and seminars throughout the day and evening. So what did I accomplished on the long, long day?
Corrected my bachelor literature presentation
Met up with 3 friends virtually to discuss our Bachelor theses. That was incredibly motivating and interesting!
Attended a class while still on the train
Prepared for the poster session for my change - management seminar
At this point I finally arrived in my study city and rushed home and straight into said
Change-Management seminar (3h!!!) and present with my project group
Met up virtually with the psychology student association for our jour-fix
Attended my practical course on patient interviews. This was the first time one of us actually did the I initial interview with a patient. He did a great job and I learned a lot from him. Then followed a discussion round and more teachings on doctor/ psychologist - patient relationships. Super educational but by the time it ended it was 9pm and I was knackered.
What a day!
But let's be realistic, there's a bunch of things I couldn't get to today:
Leave my room at home tidy and remove the bed linens
unpack
Wrote that one email I ha e been putting off
Be social and enjoy chatting with my roomies
what is university if not *puts off task because it feels overwhelming* *sits still doing nothing for 2 days paralyzed with anxiety* *finally completes task and it takes literally 20 minutes* *does it all over again the next day*
ways to start feeling again
sit in the sun without anything to do, feel the heat of the rays hit your skin, realize that this sunlight has travelled a very long way to reach you
walk around barefoot and try to feel as much of the ground under your feet as you can, notice every rock and blade of grass
sit quietly for a while and notice the touch of breath in your nostrils, feel how the air gets cooler as you inhale and warmer as you exhale
drive around aimlessly and blast some of your favorite songs, scream/sing along to them and feel the vibrations of your favorite lyrics as they change the air in your throat and around you, feel that the music is healing you from the inside out
stay away from alcohol or drugs for a few days, try to be as aware and present as you can in every moment, stop trying to numb or dull your senses
eat a few meals without any distractions, notice every bite and taste every flavor that covers your tongue, be grateful for it all
look up at the stars and the moon, understand how small we all are and how immense the universe is, realize what a miracle everything is, let your heart swell with amazement and admiration for life itself
ok this is actually cool bc doing all of this is a technique called âmindful thinkingâ that is extremely useful for people with anxiety disorders and dissociation disorders and stuff!
Easter holidays at home = cute study buddy
The 2 week break around Easter allowed me to go home to my family and puppy again.
Lots of literature research for my Bachelor's thesis, several assignments and presentations and even more puppy snuggles later, she spend about as much time with my studies as me.
WE were quite productive:
Bachelor study and thesis
At least 50h worth of literature research
prepared a presentation with said papers
Write up the ethics paperwork and testing guidelines
met up with my tutors for the thesis twice
filmed control stimuli for my bachelor study
Other courses
Took a quiz
Finished a research design assignment
Prepared for my change management seminar by working on that project
Volunteering
Prepared a presentation for our psychology student society informational event
Partially presented that event
Held another first year tutoring event (not for specific subjects, but to help them with anything to do with student- and uni life and answer questions)
Hosted the feminist book club (one more member, yayyy!)
Things that didn't work out
I missed a semi important meeting with the student embassador for a psychology society project. Thank god my project partner had me covered! She's pretty pissed about it though
I missed one book club meeting due to the holidays.
All in all it was a surprisingly productive break. I still procrastinated quite a bit and had to catch up yesterday. I ended up working until 3am, just to get up at 6 to take a train back to my study city. Not the smartest choice, but I managed.
Although I am excited to get back to my student life and roomies, I am already missing my little study buddy.
stop believing that you ran out of time to shape yourself into who you want to be! stop believing that its ruined! stop believing you donât have potential! you are not a fixed being! you have endless opportunities to grow.
Good morning to the online learners, my disillusioned college peers trying to crawl to the end of their degree, the ones who love to learn but are constantly thwarted by red tape and bureaucracy, the ex-gifted kids, the ex-not-gifted kids, the textbook pirates, the class skippers, the gap year takers, the kids who stay up late just to experience something that isn't the work grind, the one-week-at-a-timers, the one day-at-a-timers, the neurodivergent students every institution ignores and overlooks, and everybody who has been and is being traumatized by public or private education systems. Good morning to y'all and y'all only.
Have a good and productive day đ
witches in old fairytales had the right idea. living alone, unmarried, in the middle of the woods, and if a hero stumbled across their cottage theyâre like âmaybe Iâll give you a magical token to help you out. maybe Iâll fuck up your entire life. depends :)â
So a very popular argument in favor of Elriel is the forbidden love trope. I see itâs appeal, but your erasing Luciens character values. He wouldnât participate in a Blood Duel if Elain didnât want anything to do with him. He would accept her refusal of the mating bond, he isnât a man that would force her. And thereâs proof of that, itâs been a year since he found out and still lets her choose. Elain gets autonomy and agency, Lucien has never taken that away and never will. Rhysand warning Azriel doesnât make it forbidden because heâs not a god or Elaine father. It just makes it more difficult to for Azriel to be with her. And if he truly wanted that, he would fight for her. But he gave up rather easily.
You want difficult love? How about a priestess with a sadist who accept each other and there ways, but simultaneously making each other grow as characters.
What? What memo did I miss? Since when is Azriel a sadist?
Sure Sarah J. Maas alluded to him being kinky, but guys, come on. A sadist? The guy who has sometimes difficulties doing the unspeakable things Rhys asks of him? Who hates how much pain and blood his hands had inflicted over the years (there's something about that in his POV chapter).
I honestly can't imagine how that person could derive pleasure from inflicting pain in a sexual context.
Maybe he's kinky in the sense of him being a dominant. Sure, that's not that far off. I would even go so far as to hypothesise that he's masochistic tendencies, based in how he speaks of himself.
Let alone who of his potential love interests would want to be seriously hurt? Can you imagine Elain getting off on being whipped? While trauma is complex and can have an effect on one's sexuality, I doubt that Sarah J Maas and Gwen are ready for a 'trauma induced self congruency and cognitive dissonance resulting in an appetite for consentual-non-consentual, masochistic, or some other type of norm defying sexual activities' plotline. Not will she have the expertise to understand and poetry such a complex topic properly. (I mean this in the best way possible. There are some therapists and psychologists that still can't tackle that topic without bias and judgement. To expect that from someone without any prior knowledge of the human psyche is unrealistic and unfair.)
So to me, Azriel ending up with Gwen and doing anything sadistic doesn't make sense at all, because you can't write that in a way that is easily understandable for readers, let alone appealing to them.

studying without the struggle to feel good enough. studying with interest and people to talk to when you donât understand something. people who get lost in those topics with you over a drink or dinner in the evening, in a cozy bar after a day full of productive hours. walks and bycicle rides in the nights and in the early mornings because you spent the night in some shady apartment or club. motivation because youâre all in this together. happiness because itâs worth it. because youâre not alone.
Study advice from a former/still procrastinatorđ§ đ
So Iâve always stuggled with procrastination. I would stress myself out over doing no work and my solution was to continue doing no work. I got okay GCSE grades but if I wouldâve revised/studied harder I couldâve done a lot better. These tips arenât going to motivate you by themselves, unfortunately nobody can motivate you but yourself. I hope these help someone :)
Visual learnersđ
Mindmaps help so much. Use as many or as little coloured pens and highlighters as you like. They really help you visualise the basic content of each topic.
Diagrams! But I donât study a subject that uses diagrams? It doesnât matter! Draw little diagrams and doodles to help you picture the content in a more fun way!
Colour code everything! Colour coding really helps you create cues. Cues are essential in recalling information so if you write your notes for one topic in purple and there is something purple in your exam you will activate that cue!
Sticky notes! You can put these everywhere. For my GCSEs, I had sticky notes: on the hallway mirror, in my sock draw, on the fridge, stuck to the TV remote. Literally everywhere you go on a regular basis or everything you use. Use digital sticky notes on MacBooks or set alarms with the info as the title of the alarm.
Use kahoot! Everyone knows what kahoot is so Iâm not going to explain it. However, it is very fun and competitive and if you struggle to enjoy the content using a kahoot makes it a lot more fun.
Audio learnersđ¶
Record lectures or online lessons. You can use these to look back and listen to what your teacher is saying, listen to what they emphasise.
Watch YouTube videos on the topic. Honestly, ASAPScienceâs songs helped me so much in GCSE science. Itâs easier to understand and it gets stuck in your head if you want it to or not. (Just donât listen to songs before opposing subject exams: I once had the periodic table song stuck in my head during an Literature exam- not helpful.)
Create mnemonics!! Just liked in primary school when we learnt the colours of the rainbow by remembering âRichard Of York Gave Battle In Vainâ, itâs so helpful. And, the stupider and funnier the more you will remember it.
Written learnersđ
Rewrite them notes!! Rewrite them in different colours, type them up. Write them and see how much you can remember after 10 minutes.
Revision/note cards are amazing. You can lay out revision cards however you like. You can have them as questions with the answers on the other side, you can use it for the basic information or to just rewrite your notes in a form you can easily carry around with you.
Exam questions. This isnât only for written learners, itâs for everyone. Anyone who ever has a test or exam for something. Use past exam papers or practise questions. Answer them and then use mark schemes to grade them. Youâll learn how to structure answers for different types of questions and youâll also learn timing. Itâs the best way to revise!
Overall tipsđȘ
You need to find something to motivate you. For you it can be getting into university, to show off to someone or even to just reward yourself. In all honesty, I use spite to motivate me. To prove people wrong and show that Iâm more capable than they thought is an easy way to get myself to study.
You have to force yourself sometimes. There is never going to be a time where you want to study that extremely difficult topic that you havenât been able to grasp. So you have to push yourself- this is harder for some than it is for others. But once you get into the swing of pushing yourself a little, it does become easier.
To counteract the point above, you have to take breaks. And Iâm now taking, an hour break for 10 minutes of work. I mean, study for 25 minutes and have a five minute break and continue that. Get up, stretch, walk around, listen to song, get a snack and some water. Shake your body because sitting at a desk for hours on end is only going to hurt you.
Find a study buddy. Some people work better alone, I know I do. But some people need others to keep them on track and thatâs perfectly okay! In my opinion, you shouldnât choose your best friend as your study partner unless they are going to be strict with you. If you know that the person you plan to study with is only going to distract you, then pick somebody else.
Use a study group! Similar to a study buddy but in this case you can discuss the material you are going over and ask for otherâs help. Peer mark fake questions for each other or again, do a quiz. Pick the right people and a study group will work perfectly!
Find a way to shut your brain off. Easier said than done, I know. But if youâre brain is pumping out thoughts about what youâre having for dinner or the show you watched last night, then you arenât going to get anywhere. Some people use rain sounds (like me!!) but I wouldnât recommend listening to music. You may think youâre new Playlist is going to get you excited to work but itâs only going to distract you. If you want to listen to music I would recommend purely instrumental music of songs that you donât know- theyâre plenty on YouTube!
Use reminders on your phone or study apps to keep you on track. Iâve heard so many people talk about the app, Forest. I have given it ago and Iâd fully recommend it too. It has built-in reminders, sounds to listen to (and we know I love rain sounds) and small achievements to keep you motivated. You get rewarded with a tree or a few trees after your study session and if you get enough coins you can plant an actual real tree!! If you donât want to pay ÂŁ1.99, I completely understand so I would recommend Flora. Itâs free and has almost all the same features as Forest. Give them a go!! (I will make another post about the differences:))
Speaking of phones, turn yours off!! Unless youâre using it for studying, in which case disable all notifications for a select period of time. You can set screen time limits on IPhones and if you really need it, get someone else to set the password so you canât simply override it.
Back to (Online) College
Since my classes begin tomorrow and it is mostly online I thought I'd share some simple study/self care tips that I will be sticking to.
Decide where you will work - even if it is at your kitchen table, having a designated work spot is so important for online classes and study. I understand that for some people this can be difficult, so you could break up your day instead of sitting down for a few hours straight.
Get enough sleep - Summer is over, it's time to settle back into a semi-normal sleeping pattern. Being tired can be a terribly difficult roadblock for concentration.
Get up early - by this I don't mean "get up at 6am every day". I mean don't stay in bed until five minutes before your class starts. Get up maybe an hour or so beforehand, which leads me to my next point-
Eat breakfast! - it will help you concentrate on your study. Plus, now you're at home you can snack throughout the day as well!
Hydrate! - It is SO important to drink water regularly. Try to keep a tall glass or a bottle nearby when you're working.
Wash and Dress - if you don't have the time or energy to shower, you can brush your teeth and wash your face. Trust me, it will makes a world of difference. It also might be tempting to throw a sweater on over your pyjamas for lectures, but you will feel a lot more alert and ready to work if you change out of the clothes you slept in. A change of underwear and even clean joggers and a shirt can freshen you up a lot.
Take your breaks! - even a 15 minute break for you to stretch your legs and grab some air will help so much!
Stay in touch with your friends and classmates - working alone can feel very daunting, so it might be a good idea to reach out to friends and organise a study session on a group call or video chat. You needn't be lonely just because you're alone.
Keep any medication you take close to where you work - I started doing this not long ago. It can be frustrating to have to break the flow of work to get up and take it, so it may be tempting to leave it until later. If you have it within arms reach you can take it without disruption. It also might help to set an alarm if it is time sensitive.
That's it! This is a pretty basic self care list for studying online but sometimes it's best to keep it simple. Good luck my loves and mind yourselves!
MOTIVATION VS SELF-DISCIPLINE
When studying, most people try to find motivation thinking that this will get them through their study session, or they will see their failure as a result of a lack of motivation. But motivation isnât always what we need - what do you do on the days you have no motivation? This is why we need self-discipline.
MOTIVATION VS SELF DISCIPLINE
Motivation - a willingness to do something. It is the set of psychological forces that compel you to take action. A goal or reward that you look forward to that will encourage you to study - while this is useful, what happens on a day when you just donât feel like studying?
Self-Discipline - making yourself do things you know you should do when you donât want to. Being trained to routinely study regardless of how unmotivated you are - this is what will get you out of bed on a day you donât feel like studying.
So if motivation is âwhy we should do somethingâ - self-discipline is more âwhat to do nextâ.
HOW TO BE SELF-DISCIPLINED
Make a commitment with yourself that you will make studying as your habit. This is super important. Commit yourself to make this as your new habit. Donât half-ass any of these suggestions or any other suggestions that other people give. Donât give yourself silly, illegitimate excuses in the process. For this, you can do it by remind yourself on what your long-term goals in life are. Or if they donât sound rewarding enough, remind yourself what failure feels like/ could feel like.
Set yourself a routine and stick to it
Never have a zero day - 10 minutes is better than nothing!! Do flashcards from your bed or watch youtube ted talks if you canât physically study. This will help help develop a routine and make it easier for you to cope. Also, by studying everyday your brain will know that the content you are learning should be stored as long-term information so this will benefit you in the long run! However I do want to stress not to force yourself if you donât have the capacity / energy for it. Take care of yourself too.
Avoid long breaks. Unless you know that taking an hour long break means only an hour, then you can ignore this. But fo the majority of us, once weâve taken a while out of studying it can be hard to get back into it again. One minute youâre taking a 20 minute break for a snack and some phone time and the next thing you know youâre on Youtube and four hours have passed! To avoid this, try stick to shorter breaks - five or ten minutes for a snack break, toilet break and to check any phone messages. A good method to try for this is the Pomodoro Method!
Build on your productivity, not your failures.
If you come from a past of procrastinating and now feel motivated to change and discipline yourself, do NOT try to do everything at once. Start things slow and in steps.
Set yourself smaller deadlines for your goals like monthly and weekly deadlines - e.g. if you are doing a project, due 27th June, set personal deadlines, like have the introduction written by the 8th, have your literature review written by the 15th, have project complete by the 25th.Â
Break down the things that you must do into smaller, concrete activities and put those smaller activities in that to-do list; allocate specific time periods to do each smaller activities and put it the to-do list as well; set an alarm reminder for each smaller activities. Say you have to study for English on Tuesday, because for whatever reasons you just decided to dedicate your time this Tuesday to study English. However, Iâd suggest that you break down that specific activity (or âdaily goalâ) before putting it in your to-do list. So, instead of just putting âstudy for Physicsâ, try putting âread and highlight Chapter 9âł, because putting very general/broad activity like âstudy Englishâ can actually make you too confused on where and how to start doing it, and make you very prone to distractions in the process.Â
Know your limits. Self-discipline isnât doing as much as you can until you break - itâs about having control, knowing what you can realistically manage and getting that done.
Give yourself rewards! I love to have something to look forward to as I get work done! This means mixing motivation and self-discipline. I tell myself after this lecture I can have an animal crossing break or check some messages etc.Â
Track your progress â donât forget to put a checklist on your to-do list after accomplishing a task. It would relieve your stress a bit and motivate you to continue doing the remaining activities on your to-do list.Â
Remove distractions from your study space! Personally, if my phone is out and I notice a notificationâŠIâm gonna check it. Itâs human nature! So to combat this, I use apps like Forest that force me to stay within the app while I study. If I know I might get hungry during a study session Iâll keep a little snack by my desk so I donât have to get up and somehow find something else to distract me.
Just do it isnât that easy. I find to get myself in a âwork bossâ mood I need to feel good about myself so I put on a nice outfit and maybe some eyeliner and hype myself up so I know I can do my tasks and get stuff done! It feels so much better than lazing in my pyjamas trying to study.
Be patient. Itâs going to be a rough journey, itâs going to be hard but youâve got this! Take it one step at a time. Start off by completing one task a day, then move to two, then three, and the next thing you know, youâll have a regular routine where you will constantly be ticking off your to-do list everyday! But remember to be kind to yourself, know when your body is not in the right state of health to study and donât force it. Only force yourself to a limit, youâll know when to stop and thatâs okay. Just try again when you feel better! Your health is much more important!
I am trying so hard to motivate myself and get stuff done, even when I feel tired, stressed and simply overwhelmed by everything going on in the world rn. It's not going great but I am not giving up.
Reblog this if itâs okay to send you an ask or a message to be friends.
Questions to answer for increased productivity
Especially in school!:
When do you have the most energy? -Are you a morning person or a night owl? Figure out whether itâs better for you to wake up as late as possible and work long into the night or you should wake up early and go to bed early.
How messy are you? -Figure out how much do you really need to write down into your calendar. Do you need to write down the important stuff or everything because youâre forgetful?
What is your priority when it comes to work? -Is it good grades? Learning as much as possible? Just remember that your health is always number one priority, no matter what!
What style of learning is the best for you? -Do you need to read things? See things? Do you need to listen to someone explaining it to you? Do you need to try things out yourself? Figure out what kind of learning helps you to learn things faster and remember them longer.
How much time do you need to finish a certain type of task? -How long does it take you to clean your room or write an essay? How much time do you really need for reading a chapter or memorising 10 pages?
What distracts you the most? -Is it a messy room or your phone? Find out what distracts you and get rid of it.
Is working with other people better for you? -Does having a company help you or does it slow you down?
What kind of break is the most effective? -What helps you reset and rest between your tasks?
What makes you feel the most rested? -This one is for longer periods of relax. What makes you feel happy and energised? Is it cleaning, reading, watching series or dancing?
What are your physical needs? -Are 8 hours of sleep really enough? Donât you feel better when you feel healthy? Should you work out a bit more?
Look at me writing something that isnât a shitpost. Go me! Anyway, I hope I helped and have a great day.
