Do you know what's going on with Tatara’s age and why he's a kid?
All we know is what's been told in the story so far. Spoilers below this for Fushigi Yuugi Byakko Senki. We had a misdirect in the beginning with both brothers—Kasaru, the older brother who looks like, was the right age, and whose given name all lined up for him to be Tatara as we knew him from previous FY media, and Karumu, the younger 12 year old brother. Then, only a few chapters in, Kasaru is killed in an attack and Karumu's celestial powers as Tatara awaken. We learn that in his family the oldest living male sibling in each generation is to be called by the given name "Kasaru," so Karumu adopts that as his name per said tradition. And so now here we have a 12 year old Kasaru/Tatara—years younger than we expected and that's it. There is a lot of speculation on how we're going to get from this to how we know him (and hopefully make it a lot less weird and uncomfortable with Suzuno being 6 years older).
The two most obvious theories are:
A book-world time skip. In the book, it's only been a matter of months since Suzuno first entered as a child, but 10 years in the real world. But with that we have the issue of Toroki already being 110 years old, however, Rimudo/Uruki would have been around 116 when he passed as he ruled Hokkan for 100 years and was 16 upon taking the throne.
Subaru's powers. This could be the easiest way, but then we have the complication that Tatara would still mentally and emotionally be 12.
In the most recent chapter, 26, we have another seishi reveal of Amefuri. We don't know much about them yet other than that they are a captive of the Sangha, hail from the same tribe as Nakago, and that it's rumored touching them is fatal—Poison? A curse? No one knows for sure (yet). Perhaps touching them rapidly ages someone, or it is some sort of poison, and perhaps Subaru's power can reverse it but she can only turn him back so far. We also have one more seishi left to meet and who knows, maybe they'll have some part in it.
I really hope for a book-world time skip but lately I have started to think of a third option:
Tatara stay a 12 yo till the summon of byakko/departure of Suzuno, keep the shinzaho and once he became 19yo ask Subaru to keep him that age while waiting for Suzuno.
So a more angst "love story" where the story didnt even begin till both are dead (and then metting in the afterlife/reborn like takiko and uruki)
I dont know, knowing the Watase I can feel this can be an option... (and I quiet like this a lot)
