PART ONE OF — thoughts i have in my tiny brain abt crypto that i’m too lazy to put in their separate metas right now:
the metal on his jaw and ears aren’t just there because it looks Really good (even though it looks really, really good). they’re tied in with his “neurolink” ability that i choose to regard as canon, and are spinal/neurological implants.
tae-joon’s literally had his technology wired into his head to allow him to access his drones visually and audibly. it is literally part of his anatomy, crawling down his upper back along his spine in ridged metal, like an outer and (very light, but very durable) metallic spine. i’m also taking into consideration that his original concept art has the back of his head looking like this, which i COULD use to support that implant theory:
man literally splits his skull to have his tech wired into him so he can have a second (or third pair of eyes bc i hc he can have multiple drones in the games) Permanently
yes deep-seated paranoia will do that to you, it kind of helps / really doesn’t help that the implants feed into his paranoia and need to always feel secure. he knows there’s a possibility he’s being watched, and that the syndicate are just a step behind him — in his best efforts to counter a whole organisation as one man, he uses the technology he engineered to always be watching, just as they do.
tae-joon suffers severe hearing loss from being in very, very close proximity to the explosion set off by his EMP in forever family. it’s largely permanent, and when he had his implants done, he had them extended to the jaws and the ears — it serves as a hearing aid. it also feeds audio from his drones when he requires it. he can turn off the hearing aid functionality when he wants, which he does sometimes because the enhanced hearing is very powerful and jarring at times when the noise levels of the dropship overwhelm him. he is not a social man, has never really been, and is easily stressed out by excessive noise levels.
also helps avoid facial recognition what with the moulding around his original jawline. the pattern of markings around his eyes lends to this as well.
his eyes are cybernetically augmented as well. has some role in creating the HUD he’s constantly being seen using and… as I don’t have a source for what exactly on him is creating that HUD… i choose to believe that whatever he had done to his eyes play a part in this. before the enhancements, he relied 100% on the remote, which does have a bare bones map + information feed on it. it doesn’t give him as much utilisation as his current enhancements do now, though, and serves purely as a piloting device most of the time in the Games.
(not something that happens ingame, but…) sometimes his eyes glow a faint green that isn’t totally noticeable — when it happens in the dark, however, it’s very noticeable. it’s not something that casts an obvious glow on its surroundings, but imagine stumbling through the dark dropship in the middle of the night, and you look towards the communal area and just see twin pairs of green glowing eyes staring at you through the near-total dark. usually just happens when he’s updating the tech or something or doing some work with the drone that doesn’t require pulling up the full HUD.
he’s still highly/almost entirely dependent on his remote to pilot his drone though, his enhancements have nothing to do with any remote piloting ability.
