✦ Disney 30 Day Challenge: Day 2 (Your Favorite Princess)
↳ Princess Ariel ( The Little Mermaid )
I don't know when, I don't know how, but I know something's starting right now! Watch and you'll see, someday I'll be part of your world!
Somewhat endeared by her enthusiasm despite this trip in no way involving her, he cast her a sidelong glance, flourished with the R A R E half-smile offered upon pale lips that faded just as it flickered. ❝ Yeah. ❞ He hoped there would only be positive things to say, anyway. Women liked roses, right ? She might think him too b o l d ———————- - . . .
But the thought knotted his stomach in twists, so he changed the subject instead. ❝ Is there —- anything I can do for you ? Uhm, to thank you ? ❞
Not once had it crossed Ariel's mind that Adam would offer to do something in return for her and even as the question was posed, she found herself surprised. Doing things for others without any form of payment had grown natural to her, thus she never expected anything in return (or even the prospect of it). Even now, when she really thought about it, she had no clue what it was she wanted. "Oh, don't worry about," she finally said with a shake of her head and polite smile. "There's no need to do anything for me. I like to be of help. But thank you for the offer."
Sigyn winced just as the girl did, though more out of sympathy for her than of anything else. “Yes, very ouch. As bad as it sounds, I believe it feels a bit worse.” After a short pause, she gave her a small smile and shrugged. “Though, it isn’t as painful after a few minutes. Just annoying.”
Annoying? She wondered how it felt and immediately chastised her curiosity considering it sounded quite unpleasant and not something she would enjoy experiencing, even if the pain was not long-lasting. "Well, that's good, I suppose."

She smiled brightly, repeating the action with a soft giggle. “The pleasures all mine, I’m sure” she said with another smile. “Oh, I’m a part of it. But I’m also wandering around in between acts too” she said with a nod, looking at the female.
"What exactly do you do?" She found herself asking, eyes wide with curiosity and intrigue. For a moment, she thought that, perhaps, she had heard of festivals and fairs like this one in passing, whether from Scuttle or in books, though it was entirely possible for her to be wrong. Even if she had been right, she knew little about what made up these sort of events and found herself increasingly interested. "If I may ask, that is."
"Yes, and those intriguing things become dull after a lifetime. After being surrounded by them. Incessantly.”
Perhaps words of that sort weren’t the best choice. It wouldn’t at all be that she was thought dull, but distracted. Dreadfully so. Too fixated on what she thought to be some big, wide wonderland, certainly one that was imagined to be devoid of suffering and darkness. The world was sure to be seen by those eyes as an oyster, a pearl or some other treasure lurking within. But to Adam’s own, it was little more than the same, sad song playing over and over again.
Ariel found herself frowning. A frown that made her appear simultaneously older and younger than her actual age, something she probably had inherited from her father. On one hand, she was frustrated that this stranger seemed intent upon disagreeing with her about her claims. But on the other, she sort of understood. After all, she was a mermaid displeased with the sea and whatever "wonders" nestled in that wide expanse. She was displeased enough to go against her father's warnings (never mind that her mother had died because of humans) and even traded her fin for scrawny legs she was still not entirely used to. "Well don't ruin my fun," she said defiantly, though immediately after she ducked her head and muttered a soft, "Please" to make up for any harshness.
A girl, rescued me. She was singing. She had the most beautiful voice.
..and the most beautiful hair :)
"I think you mean multitasking, not all those humans you speak of can do so many things at a time"
"No, no, I mean how do humans remember what everything is called and what its purpose is. There are so many things to remember that it seems impossible!"
"Believe it or not, we do ‘ave trouble keeping track of everyzing.”
"Do you?" Relief was evident on her features, almost as if she were worried that her inability to remember every human object's name and purpose was ridiculous and worthy of spite.
"You're not getting cold fins now, are you?"

Deep breaths to s t i l l the pounding of his heart ( ridiculous, actually, considering he was doing nothing more but buying flowers; he still had two days before he was giving them ), he took the small bouquet to the front, where the owner rang up his purchase and offered a lovely little bag with water, flower food, and a string to tie it all up, all of which Adam accepted.
❝ Thank you —- for helping me. ❞ He kept the bouquet tightly in hand as they exited the store, feeling maybe a tiny bit less nervous about this next date.
Whilst he paid, Ariel preoccupied herself with inspecting some more flowers, struggling to memorize some of the complicated names that were attached to them. Helianthus annuus? Syringa vulgaris? Such big words! While she wished to stay there longer and inspect them all, she still eagerly following Adam back outside into the darkness, the pleased smile never once falling from her face. "You're very welcome! I like to help," she hummed. "You must tell me how she likes the flowers!"
Jenna was even more confused by that response, trying to work out how a girl could be able to talk to not only a seagull, but a fish as well. This wasn’t a Disney movie. Or was it? The girl’s hair was a vibrant shade of red, and all of this on top of her confusion over the name and usage of a fork was ringing several bells in Jenna’s mind. “Really? Now, that’s interesting,” she replied, still making an effort to sound casual despite her thoughts. “I just realized, I never caught your name. Mine’s Jenna.”
"Oh, it's Ariel," she said sweetly with a bright grin, realizing rather quickly that it was quite rude of her to not have introduced herself earlier. But talks of forks and the like had distracted her and she supposed it was not entirely her fault. "It's very nice to meet you, Jenna."
”A papercut is a small cut on your skin that is made when a paper slices it. And lemon juice is the acidic juice of a sour, yellow fruit called a lemon. Put lemon juice on a paper cut and it stings even more.”
Ariel visibly winced at the thought of something slicing her skin and again at the thought of something making it burn. "Ouch," she whispered, frantically rubbing her fingers as if they somehow felt the pain described."
The summer sun was beating down on Loki, causing him to huff and wipe the side of his neck before continuing, “Why of course, the girls on land are just as rebellious as the girls beneath the sea— as I can notice! Do mer-daughters get grounded as well?” He winked, teasing. “Reprimanding up here might be a bit different though.” Imitating the ‘typical-teen’ voice— ” ‘No daddy please! Don’t take my phone! I didn’t mean to come in at midnight! I didn’t mean to fail that test!’ ” Again he laughed, but cleared his throat when he saw her staring blankly at him— the joke wasted, now he was just ‘talking from his bum’ as others would say. “Sorry for that… ‘land’-humor, but, yes they are.”
Despite his best efforts to relinquish hope in the girl, she remained spaced, staring into her own thoughts with pursing lips—“No need to frown darling, I’m sure it is no more a difference than good-and-bad where you come from.” Though more barbaric… probably.
He hadn’t lied to her. The idea of having a fin seemed particularly fascinating, and, he would be exploring reaches of the sea that even humans could not. She did smile at that, to which he returned her excitement. “Why would one not want to be like you? You’re a beautiful creature, adventurous and mysterious… the humans would die to see what you’ve seen…” Loki blinked wondrously then, shifting to make a stand on the dock… beginning to shrug off his boots, removing his horned-headdress.
”— Mind if I join you for a swim?”
What was a phone? What was midnight? Were tests the same on land as they were beneath the sea? How else were human girls reprimanded and what were the reasons? This fascinated her perhaps more than it should have, but she felt she had asked enough questions for now and thus remained silent. Perhaps she would ask Scuttle later. He always had all the answers.
Instead, she focused on Loki and the next compliment he shot at her which, again, made her face redden and a pleased smile cross her face. "I suppose you're right," she intoned sheepishly. The sea did have many, many wonders, but perhaps she took them for granted so often because her attention was so focused on land and the wonders that resided up there. "There are many things in the sea that do not seem to be on land. But I must say, not all the merfolk in the ocean are as nice as my kind." It was not a lie, not even a little. Different parts of the waters had different merfolk within, some nice, some nasty, some carved out of sheer instinct, others contorted by evolution. The ones that lived in the deeper, darker parts of the ocean were the ones that scared Ariel the most. But she did not allow the crawling sensation of discomfort and dread creep up on her and instead waved it away--metaphorically--and turned to watch Loki as he began to pull off bits and pieces of the things he was wearing.
"Oh! That would be lovely. You may certainly join me!"

Their were two things in this world that would always be funny to Jack. The first was knock knock jokes, as the suspense of ‘who’s there’ always killed him. The second was a well placed random snowball. And seeing as he was the spirit of winter and not bad jokes, it was no surprise which of the two he used for entertainment this day.
He had perched himself atop a tree to get a perfect vantage point for his victim. And he spotted them, minding their own business about three yards from his tree, making the perfect unsuspecting target. And so he threw the ball of snow, silver eyes eagerly watching as it made impact onto the stranger, ready to see how this scene played out.
"Oh!" That was her startled response as something remarkably cold whacked her on the back of the head hard enough for her to stumble forward and nearly lose her balance. After tottering about on those spindly, still-brand-new legs of hers, Ariel reached a hand back to touch her head where she was met with something cold and wet. Who was so rude as to throw something at her when she was merely minding her own business, as per usual? Granted, she had perhaps been inspecting an icicle she'd picked a little too hard, but it was strange to think that water could freeze in such a manner. Now the icicle lay in the snow beneath her, cracked in half, and she frantically tried to calm her frustrated breathing, all whilst looking around her bewilderingly to find the culprit who had hit her with a snowball.
An odd question. Increasingly so. One that got him to thinking, questioning just who this girl was and from whence she had come. Stranger still for one her age — still prime and with everything and nothing to look forward to — to not fully anticipate just what discontent was and how it manifested and why.
"Why not?" Too many words, even for a man who had so few to offer.
"Why not? This place is filled with so many wonders, so many intriguing things! How can you possibly be sad surrounded by so much?" It just didn't click in her mind, not that it, perhaps, should have. Naive she may have been, but were she to come to the sudden and full realization that, hey, maybe this world isn't that great and, hey, maybe not everyone sees what you sees and isn't fully happy, she'd more than likely be heartbroken. It was better, for now, to see the world as a bright bowl of sunshine.
