ok i was VERY involved in the. b&n reviews warrior cats roleplay scene when i was like 10-12. the first two books of the series were general hubs where ppl would post ads for their clans and other groups. there was a huge percy jackson community i remember participating in too. it worked through search results, eg. riverclan might be under the search result āriversā. book 1 was rules and a āmapā, book 2 might be the main area, book 3 the medicine cats tent, etc. there was also usually a book where ppl would post lengthy descriptions of their character(s). it was a rlly bizarre little corner of the internet jdksj also it was impossible to find any real reviews of any of the warrior cats books bc of it

I rbed this silently but I think I've gotta answer some questions now. I was a big part of this whole thing and the reason we didn't use forums was because 90% of us didn't have normal internet access. Barnes and Noble had an e-reader that could connect to the internet and reach their digital store, which was great for those of us with controlling parents who only let us read books.

This morning Bear, aged 8, stopped on the walk to school and demanded that I take a picture of a perfect snowflake they found on a cold metal railing. They announced that their schoolās headmaster had charged them with the task of finding Free Treasure, and that the snowflake had to be documented. Free Treasure is, according to the headmaster, treasure that doesnāt cost anything. This snowflake was so GOOD - and, to a small British child in the soft green south, so RARE - that it was a highly satisfactory start to their quest.
Unfortunately Bear then spotted a snowflake caught in a spiderweb on a garbage bin, which is objectively more interesting and dynamic Free Treasure (snowflake in spiderweb!! Very rare!!) but which photographs badly. There is no way to photograph that free treasure that doesnāt suck. Bear found this quite frustrating.
The vastness of the world, which contains many cold metal railings AND many rubbish bins, briefly overwhelmed Bear with the knowledge that there is quite likely really good Free Treasure, probably just around the corner even, but the rigid routine of the new year - the necessity of going to school - the inevitable rising of the sun and warming of the world - means that they wouldnāt find it. Bear bathed for a moment in this great wash of philosophy, and then ran off.
I hope you find some good Free Treasure today.
Oh! I had forgotten about this, but when I was shovelling the back yard the other day, i paused because a perfect snowflake had landed on my mitten and i had to take a photo of it.
I think perfect snowflakes are wonderful Free Treasure :)

american attitudes about nudity are fucking wild, and the worst part is that because they're american, they just assume that everyone everywhere thinks the same. i will never forget seeing people on a left-leaning, progressive site saying that families bathing together is creepy and gross and clearly a sign that something is wrong with the family, that they'd never seen their siblings or parents naked and would in fact rather die. meanwhile to this day i bathe and go to the sauna with my sister and mother and have been bathing and sauna'ing with various family members - and even strangers! - my whole life. but yes, can confirm, seeing your grandma's tits as a child does you good, and not just because it teaches you that "beauty is fake and temporary", but because it broadens your ideas about what beauty even is in the first place. my sister and i used to spend our summers at our grandma's house by the countryside and frequently bathed and went to sauna with her. we saw not just her breasts but also her flabby skin, her moles and liver spots, her body hair and varicose veins, and we didn't see any of that as weird or ugly because they were a part of our grandma who we loved very much. and when we see those things in other people - ourselves included! - we think "well it wasn't ugly on my grandma's body, so why would it be ugly on anyone else's body?". it makes you much more understanding and "forgiving", if you will, towards the completely normal bodies of strangers as well as your own body.
