      the cabin still needed some work done on it to salvage what was left after the storm and so did her relationship with her father . he’s been quiet , too quiet lately which only made corina more and more suspicious of what was going on in the man’s head . the only way she knew how to get rid of the anxiety ? water . the inherited gene of ‘ mermaidism ‘ she got from her mother and the only thing that seemed to still exist after her passing nowadays . and once she was done with her little swim , she finds her way to the boat ramp , ready to soak in the sunlight and represent a crab better than the kook princess her father wanted her to be . eyes don’t even make the slightest effort to look around , not expecting to see anyone as she left the boat uninhabited when she dived into the water . though , while she pressed the towel to her head , gaze takes in a figure , “ fucking hell ! “ she shrieks , startled from the intruder . it takes her a moment to recognize ziggy and lids press close when her hand reaches her chest . “ you scared the life out of me ! “ she screams when eyes finally open to take him in , shaking her head . “ i see you came back after all .. “

kieran seemed to slow their walk as corina spoke again , turning to face her . ‘  i  already  ruined  my  jeans  once  today , ‘ kieran spoke , motioning towards their pants before letting out a sigh . they thought it over before shrugging as they stepped forward , ‘  yeah ,  sure .  what  do  you  need  me  to  do ? ‘

    eyebrows shoot up once kieran starts making excuses , knowing they’d eventually come back to agree . and when they finally do , a pleased expression beams on her face as she nods . “ promise if we ruin anymore of your attire , i’ll pay for the damage . “ hands shoot up defensively when she quips , grin parting her lips so she can flex her pearly whites . “ take some of the empty garbage bags and just .. shove everything that does not belong there in them . “ she nods , turning to look at the house once more , a little thought at the back of her head hoping they do not recognize her on the remaining family pictures inside .

‘  i  know  that  it’s  bad  bad, ‘ quin spoke with a sigh , running a hand down his face . he knew that it was bad . he knew that it was going to take a lot of work and that was if the bar could even be fixed or saved for that matter . ‘  trying  to  stay  positive  because  if  i  don’t ,  i’ll  freak  out . ‘ he rubbed his lips together as he placed his hands on his hips before looking back at corina . ‘  yeah ,  i  mean ,  maybe . ‘

      while optimism wasn’t her best suit , speaking beautiful things certainly was and it seemed perfect for the situation . “ hey , no .. “ she shakes her head , moving her attention back to the place . “ look , we can clean this up and -- and repaint it . “ hand gestures to the walls outfront , shoulders bucking up . “ i can call my interior designer friend from new york , he can help with the saving of the damaged furniture and all .. “ head moves to look at quin . “ it will take .. maybe a month tops ? “

“You look like you got that handled.” Charlotte knew of Corina. A model, right? Charlotte heard from a friend of a friend that Corina could get someone acquainted with a model or a fashion designer. This was almost exclusively brought up when Charlotte flashed a less-than-friendly expression, or dressed less than presentable that day.

Which, of course, made her hate Corina sometimes, however much she acknowledged how little logical sense it made.

Charlotte extended a hand. “Cleaning up is a shitshow, isn’t it?”

      hues move up to take in the presence , flashing a sheepish smile . word spread fast in kildare , especially when it was about the new faces around . and while charlotte has been habitating the island for quite some time , corina still did not know how to read the other correctly . instead of dwelling on the thought so much , blonde decides to take the helping hand and brings herself up . “ thanks .. “ she grunts out , while standing up and a sigh lifts up a loose strand of blonde hair away from her face . “ yeah , it can be brutal sometimes . “ nods . “ you on cleaning duty too or .. ? “

       “  shit !  ” he just so happened to be passing by , and considering he never really used to head over this way , it was a surprise to be doing so , but no more a surprise than finding corina down this way . he watched her slip , closing their distance swiftly and cringing as he looked her over ,  “  are  you  okay ?  ” he knew that some people in kildare may have had a thing to say about corina , she swapped sides as appropriate but that was never an issue matteo had , after all , he was a kook , even if he resented that .

      hues quickly snap at where the source of the voice came . those brunette curls were like a trademark for matteo in her mind . keeping tabs on her long-lost friends was easy , especially in a place like kildare , so the trio’s friendship she was familiar with . “ yeah , yeah , i’m good .. “ quickly nods , one hand moving to massage her neck awkwardly as she eyed him . “ just -- “ thumb stretches towards the cabin behind her , “ offering a helping hand , you know . “ blonde shrugs nonchalantly , trying to come up with little lies on the spot . last thing she needed was for the remaining two of the trio to find out she was still lurking on pogue territory after all this time . “ what brings you here ? “

‘  you  know , ‘ riley hummed after corina continued , slowly turning to face corina . ‘ not  really  sure  why  i’m  considered  the  asshole  when  you’re  the  one  who  ditched . ‘ maybe no one could blame her . plenty of people on the pogue side wanted to get out of here , make a better life for themselves , but maybe what got under riley’s skin was corina’s return like nothing happened . ‘  we’re  not  the  same  people  you  knew ,  you  know ?  you were  gone .  life  moved  on . ‘

    a groan leaves her lips when they continue speaking , thinking the conversation was over . the words that exited , however , rubbed the blonde in the worst way possible . “ i didn’t ditch ! “ corina argues , eyes widening when she turns to face riley . “ and f.y.i. , i’m here to help and not attend the annual pogue kumbawa , no need to worry i’m stepping into your territory . “ chocolate hues roll . “ same can be applied for me , riley . or did you think i’m here to make puka shell necklaces and re-furnish the cabin or something ? “ head shakes . “ quit acting like i left you here to burn ! we grew up , life happened ! “ and some brainwashing too . but they both have stepped so far away from the comfort zone they have built over the years that even shiding the slightest light on the situation was unheard of for corina .

     ‘  dropped  josh  off  at  home .  figured  i’d  see  what  was  going  on . ‘ it was the truth at least . they pressed their lips together , ‘  what  are  you  doing  out  here ? ‘ if corina didn’t want to tell them then that was fine . it wasn’t as if it was kieran’s business onw hat she was doing out here of all places . kieran shifted in their spot , planning to take their leave . ‘  don’t  let  me  interrupt  you . ‘

    she parts her lips , ready to lie and cover up her tracks but the past day has been a rollercoaster . while she’d need more time to readjust , the blonde could really use a friendly face . “ i was cleaning up .. “ she shrugs , a little smile breaking through , not comfortable sharing more details . “ i mean , “ head jerks over her shoulder to eye the small estate as teeth find her lower lip . “ i can use a helping hand .. if you're down . “ she looks up at them .

            for  a  moment  kayden  hesitated  to  speak  .  of  course  the  world  didn’t  revolve  around  him  ,  the  possibility  of  corina  just  passing  by  was  huge  ,  so  she  could’ve  just  been  at  the  wrong  place  at  the  wrong  time  ,  yet  he  couldn’t  help  his  feelings  though  ,  the  hurt  of  their  friendship  ending  in  such  a  dumb  way  ,  was  something  he  couldn’t  control  .  "  yeah  ,  just  like  you  don’t  feel  like  having  contestations  at  all  with  me  .  "  he  said  ,  taking  a  deep  breath  before  continuing  .  "  great  way  to  treat  your  friends  corina  .    "

      she nods to his words . it took all energy in her not to tangle herself in unwanted situations . yet , everytime she finds herself stuck in them - so what better thing to do than to simply run from the problem ? though , his words stung . the fewer friends she had she had lost and corina believed she made her piece with it , but sadly .. it was far from the truth . “ we haven’t been friends for quite some time , kayden . “ she rarely ever believed in friendships anymore . she did not believe in genuine , unconditional human relations and while it hurts it was her reality . while chocolates looked at a man that was once a person she’d kill for , she could feel her heart break once again .

kieran stuck out like a sore thumb when it came to the pogue side of the island . kieran , by no means , was a pogue but they did have pogue ties that lied with the shelby family namely one joshua shelby that kieran had grown up with . granted , kieran didn’t usually come to this side without someone with them . it gave them an excuse to be there but after seeing josh that day , kieran took it upon themself to take a look around and get an idea on how much damage actually occurred on this side . kieran probably would have moved passed if it wasn’t for the scream .

they watched as corina got up , holding her lower back . ‘  you  good ? ‘ they asked with a tilt of their head . ‘  try  not  to  kill  yourself  out  here . i  don’t  know  if  anyone  would  take this  as  the  first  place  to  look  for  you . ‘

     corina blinks a few more times as kieran appears in her field of vision . hand moves up to scratch the top of her head , appreciating the fact they did not ask any questions . the fact that the villareals were pogues by birth was a well-known fact , hence why some people were very angry with her . though , what few were aware of was that they never sold the little cabin . instead , corina has protested against in , wanting to keep at least some of her mother’s memory and the nostalgic tud of happiness that it brought alive . “ i -- yeah .. probably . “ she nods . “ what are you doing here , though ? “ a little chuckle falls from her lips , not expecting kieran out of all people to catch her red-handed with trash bags in hands .

ziggy raised a brow , expecting corina to argue but it never came . what was there to really say in her defense ? apparently , not  much . ‘  pay  me ?  do  you  know  how  crazy  you  sound ?  and  over  what ?  a  boat ? ‘ ziggy wanted to pretend that he understood but he didn’t . ‘ i  can’t  be  bought ,  corina .  you  should  know  that  by  now . ‘ ziggy sighed as he moved to get off of the hammock . ‘  deal  with  your  dad .  ‘

    her gaze lowers to her feet . not from the rejection but from the overall reaction . once again she has outdone herself , single handedly kicking herself down in people’s eyes . “ it’s not just a boat ! “ her voice raises up as she protests , hands clutching into fists by her sides as she stared at the male . “ whatever , i’m not having this conversation . thanks for nothing .. “ she huffs out , moving to walk past ziggy as a temper tantrum seemed more ideal in her eyes than actually baring her feelings before him .

          a  short  chuckle  left  his  lips  .  "  i  highly  doubt  you  care  about  anything  other  than  yourself  ,  so  it  makes  sense  yeah  .“  kayden  says  ,  tilting  his  head  a  little  bit  ,  eyes  still  narrowed  at  the  female  .  throughout  the  years  kayden  believed  their  friendship  was  one  to  last  a  lifetime  ,  there  was  no  one  else  he  trusted  the  same  way  as  corrina  ,  yet  once  on  the  other  side  it  seemed  like  she  changed  .  maybe  it  was  his  disliking  of  the  kooks  ,  but  there  was  something  there  ,  something  that  made  him  feel  like  the  old  her  was  gone  .  ”  falsely  ?  you’re  literally  a  different  person  ,  and  i’m  at  fault  again  ?  "

      she blinks some more , turning again to face the male . “ how has this turned into me being some type of person ? “ head shakes when she scoffs . this was all sorts of too much . was she in the wrong ? yes , most of the times she is .. but not right now . “ listen , i get that you need a punching bag or whatever but you have the wrong person . i did not listen in on your conversation , so yeah .. i am falsely accused and i don’t think that has anything to do with who i am . “ her voice raises up having had enough of his crap for today . “ so just .. storm the other way or whatever , i don’t feel like having this conversation right now . “

ziggy sighed in response , pushing some hair away from his forehead as he looked back at corina . ‘  yeah  and  the  difference  between  you  and  the  other  kooks  is  that  at  least  we  know  what  to  expect .  come  on .  you  moved  on  from  this  place ,  which ,  great  ,  okay ?  not  blaming  you  for  that  but  riley …  we  all  know  riley’s  shit . ‘ ziggy wasn’t trying to make excuses for him but it made sense . riley didn’t consider a lot of people friends so when one did something that was even on borderline hurtful , they resorted to being a dick . ‘  how  is  that  my  problem ? ‘ ziggy scoffed , ‘  that’s  between  you  and  your  old  man  and  i’m  not  going  to  do  the  dirty  work  for  you  by  quitting . ‘

      her mouth agapes to correct him . has she really ever moved on ? corina the kook princess might fit perfectly with the bunch of polished and preppy folks around her , but the real corina villareal would never fit the mold . “ i’m not -- “ she stops before more comes out . you’re not what ? a kook ? but being a pogue is off the table too . she has walked so far and all for what ? having her face on times square ? it didn’t matter . it never did .. it was a matter of survival and it has been killing her for the longest time . “ i’ll pay you . “ eyes pierce his . it was bad , borderline idiotic but the girl was grasping on straws to keep at least a glimpse of her sanity . ziggy was an ally , has been her whole life and it hurt to turn her back on him and hide away her true self away like that but it was best for all parties involved . or so she thought .

      she hasn’t stepped into pogue territory for well over months . let alone , checked on the old little cabin her parents crafted with their own two hands near the water . where she once lived , and was truly happy . now , the dock they crafted was almost left in ruins and so was the porch . living twenty feet from the water was romantic and all , but when storms hit , it was ugly . chocolate hues take in the seaweed hanging from the porch and roof . it seemed like a whole wave has washed over the otherwise small place . 

      blonde locks are tied in a ponytail as bare hands have already gone to business , cleaning up the place . small sweaty body drags out a bag full of garbage from inside the house and tosses it near the other few she had already gathered . on the last step , however , otherwise shining kook princess loses her balance and falls flat on her bottom with a scream . “ fuck ! “ she curses under her breath , swiftly getting up on her two feet as hands press to her lower back , hoping no one has stumbled upon the location .

    ‘  we  don’t  have  to  talk  about  riley  but  i  know  they’re  only  an  asshole  when  they’re  hurt . ‘ ziggy shrugged their shoulders as he looked back at corina , knowing that he didn’t have to defend riley but felt as if he had to . zigg sighed , ‘ i  don’t  know  if  i  can  help  that .  if  it’s  not  me ,  it’s  going  to  be  someone  else .  i’ll  try  to ,  i  don’t  know ,  knock  first ? ‘ ziggy wasn’t sure on what corina exactly wanted him to do . ziggy wasn’t exactly reliable so the fact that her dad took another shot on him was a miracle on it’s own and he wasn’t looking to quit just because she was uncomfortable . ‘  shouldn’t  you  be  more  , i  don’t  know ,  annoyed  at  your  dad  for  not  telling  you  he  hired  me  again ?  i’m  just  doing  my  job . ‘

      corina scoffs , unable to recognize ziggy’s words as true . “ he’s hurt .. my ass ! “ eyes roll . it was hard to let said thought sink in . while ravishing in her own self-pity it was somewhat challenging to realize she had hurt other people too , despite it being unintentionally . “ they have always hated the kooks , ziggy . the moment my foot stepped there i was done for in their eyes . they’re not hurt .. just .. “ small shoulders shrug up , “ petty .. i don’t know . “ it was better to think that way than drive herself insane knowing she has hurt people she still , to this day , loves . “ other people would be far easier to get rid of . “ corina lets the words loose , eyes searching his as she allows him to finish off the sentence on his own . frame moves uncomfortably at the mention of her dad . they rarely ever spoke nowadays . mostly when it was about business and making appearances together . “ i am . “ answers swiftly , tongue moving in her mouth as she tried and search for more words to say . “ but he doesn’t believe i can take care of it on my own , so really , what i have to say on the matter does not interest him in the slightest .. “

    ziggy hummed in mild thought before shaking his head , ‘ yeah ,  no.  not  really  how  it  works . ‘ ziggy looked back at her before opting to sit up . ‘  why  does  it  bother  you  so  much  if  i  work  for  your  dad ?  i’m  not  riley .  i  don’t  really  care  what  side  you’re  loyal  to . ‘ ziggy had his issues with some kooks , that much was certain , but ziggy wasn’t too sure if he cared when it came to corina .

     she scoffs , gaze diverting somewhere past ziggy as she needed a second to collect her thoughts . “ i’m not .. “ she shakes her head . “ i’m loyal to myself and that’s it . “ corina quickly protests , moving to lean on where the hammock’s bottom was tied to . “ and can we not talk about riley right now ? like , that’s a .. whole other thing on it’s own . “ eyes move over her feet . she didn’t need the fuss , nor did she seeked to rant or bare her soul . the simple truth of it all was that she felt lonely , no matter on which side of the island . and the last thing she needed , at this already confusing time , was for people that did care which side she was on to start speak of where her loyalties laid . the role of the stuck-up , cold kook princess seemed to bring less heartache than the ever-loving child of the sea . “ look , i like to think that boat is my own personal space , okay ? i’m used to it .. and when other people appear out of the blue i don’t feel comfortable . that’s it .. that’s what bothers me . “

      ’ i  mean ,  it  looks  like  it . ‘ they almost wanted to smirk at her reaction . ‘  you  know ,  it  gives  me  a lot  of  delight  to  know  how  easy  it  is  to  get  under  your  skin .  guess  they  don’t  toughen  you  up  on  that  side  of  the  island  ,  huh ? ‘ a chuckle escaped riley’s lips next as they moved to walk around her , ‘  have  fun ,  princess .  i’m  sure  we’ll  run  into  each  other  eventually ,  maybe . ‘ and maybe they would . if corina was hanging out on this side of the island then it was likely . if she was sticking to the kook side then , well , it was also likely considering that’s where riley was employed .

      head shakes , trying to convince herself that they were not right . she had worked her ass off , she deserved the house she lived in , the life she led .. then why did riley’s words sting so much ? had she really detached herself so further from her roots that even the people once most loyal to her no more recognized her as one of their kind ? hues move to follow their frame , not out of fear , but rather out of caution . “ not if i have any saying in it . “ she cuts off . “ have a nice life . “ a stretched fauxed grin is offered , an exiting line before she diverts her whole attention to the trash around her .

       ziggy glanced up when he heard carina’s voice , a sigh escaping his lips as she stopped the sway of the hammock . ‘  why  do  you  care ? ‘ he had a reason on why she probably cared but he didn’t get why it was that big of a deal . ‘  afraid  i’m  going  to  squeal  that  you  like  still  doing  weird  pogue  things ? ‘ he wasn’t even sure if that was the right word to call it but he didn’t have another way of explaining it . ‘ i  don’t  know ,  okay ?  until  i  get  the  itch  to  move  on ,  probably .  why ? ‘

     her tongue pops off the roof of her mouth . “ it’s not .. “ weird ? pogue ? truth be told , she’d never classify it as either of those . in fact , nothing she still carried within her would she ever classify as one of the above , even if it falled under said category . it was her father that wanted their pogue roots erased and corina let herself be brainwashed into the idea . “ whatever . “ shaking her head she sucks her lips in , deep in thought . corina leans further , raising her eyebrows slightly while she observed the male . “ is there a way to provoke that itch prematurely ? “ blonde inquires , “ just aking .. for science . “
