BETA Testing!
Hey guys! If you have an iPhone/iPad running iOS 9 or newer and would like to BETA test my game, message me so I can sign you up!
A computer science student 1...
...was writing a note to his crush before lecture. The student 2 next to him grabbed the note.
student 1: ( tried to grab it back ) You can’t see that, it’s private!
student 2: But we’re in the same class!

Lasted game play of my game "Stars"!
My latest update.
In the past two weeks, I've been making major progress in my game. First, I've recorded some background music that will play as you play the game. I've also added some sound effects such as a dying sound, and sounds for the Star Store. Also I have successfully added video ads to the game. There will be two video ads that will play: one is a video that will play when you die 10 times, and the second is an ad that you choose to watch if you want free coins. The latter for me was a little confusing to set up. I had to read the code for a sample app AdColony has again and again to try to understand what was going on. But late last night I finally got it to work in my game. So this week of 5/1/16 I want to focus on two things: first is make the final game music and sound effects for the game; I need to make the sounds louder and more clear, second I want to design lots more stars for the Star Store. My game is ahead of schedule, I want to try to release it on 5/25/16, if not then it would be in the beginning of June.
Fun day coding with Pac-Man!
Code is all done!
Earlier this week, we hit a milestone. We have finished all the code for our game "Stars"! So now we are working on the final design of all of the art work. So far we have completed the art for the default star and its tail. Plus the platforms and coin. Basically only the things we have to finish is the art work of all the different stars. We want to have around 20 stats available at launch, and we can add more through updates. This game is ahead of schedule, we might even have this game out by the end of May! Keep on the look out for "Stars", Cyberjam Studios first game. Coming soon to iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
Today I’m gonna show you how to add iAd banner to SpriteKit game in Swift. Again, there’s a ton of tutorials how to add iAds normal iOS app, but in case of SpriteKit game and Swift, it wasn’t so obvious to me. For further info, here’s the official guide. To quickly sum-up basics: You need to …
This helped us a lot on getting iAds in our game. Check it out!
Lots and lots of code!
Even though our game has simple gameplay, we have several hundreds lines of code written. Most of it is setting up the UI and game images; because our game is so simple, it would be easier to not use the scene builder in SpriteKit and to hard code everything. The result of this is one file of endless code. This is not good because it is more likely to have bugs and we keep on getting lost in our code. So we have a solution: use different scenes We are going to have 5 different scenes: the start scene, the game scene, the game over scene, and the store and choose star scenes. We will still hard code all our sprites because there is still not a lot of them. This way we will minimize the amount of code in one file, and be able to solve bugs quicker. But there is just one problem. At the start scene a particle emitter starts emitting the effect of stars passing by. We need to figure out away to keep this same particle emitter emitting across all scenes, no matter which one the player is currently in. So far we have not found a solution to this, but we are working hard to solve this problem.
Here is a the first look of the design of the Star Store. We now have a working prototype store that you buy more stars with coins and use the stars you bought in the game. We are still working hard designing and coding our first game so we can release it in June.
First look at the game play of our first iPhone game Stars. Game art is not finished yet; we still have to design a coin, make more playable stars, and add sounds. But every day that passes by, the game gets better. Stars available for download June 2016 for iPhone/iPad.
We have written the logic flow for the Star Store, and now we have a working prototype! This store has been way more work than we expected, but little by little we are getting it done. Hopefully the entire store will be finished this week. Next week we'll be working on audio.
When debugging code.
Introducing Stars. First game from Cyberjam Studios! Available for download for iPhone and iPad June 2016. Gameplay trailer coming soon.
We hit a wall :/
Tonight we hit a runtime error that’s stopping us from continuing. We have a class called StarObject with holds all the parameters that a star needs; such as name, the number of coins to buy, etc. But the problem is this: NSUserDefualts is not able to store a custom object. We been searching the internet for solutions to this problem but haven't found a fix. They say that to fix this you have to archive the object with NSKeyedArchiver, then save it to NSUserDefults; but this is not working either. Ughhh!!! this error is pulling our hairs out, but we are so smart we’ll get a fix. ;)
Logic For The Store
A prototype of our character store is half way complete when we noticed a flaw in the code. We have two arrays, one holding the names of the characters the player currently has, and the other is the name of the characters that are still available to buy. Each array is stored with NSUserDefualts. When a user buys a character from the store, it would remove that character from the array of the avaliable characters, and move it to the array of the characters that the player has. Our algoitham works fine, except for one problem: we wont be able to add new characters to the avaliable array without having all of the player’s characters deleted or put back into the store; when they update the app. As of right now we have several diffrent ways to test to avoid this, and are working hard to have the store completed by this weekend. Stay tuned!
Here is the before and after screenshots of the game over screen of the game. Now we can start coding the store to buy more stars. The game is coming together!!
