NPC INTRO: THE LADY OF WAR
Meet DAHLIA CRUZ-DUTTON. She's a 37-year-old HUMAN who is the OWNER of THE OBELISK, a neutral nightclub. She is notoriously known for being BOSSY & HIGH MAINTENANCE but there are some people who have seen her being PROFESSIONAL & DECISIVE. She reminds people a lot of meticulously coordinated outfits, a glass of wine at the end of the day, and the goddamn second amendment, but that could just be because she's considered the LADY OF WAR around town.
Dahlia and her husband are the owners of The Obelisk—a nightclub that refuses any affiliation with any faction, and one of the few businesses in the city that has successfully managed to stay independent. They manage the club themselves, and many of their employees are their immediate family and friends.
They have gained a reputation for having a zero-tolerance policy against breaking their neutrality rule. Nobody is exempt, regardless of who you are or your position in society. Higher-ups in the Big Three, capos in the Skyport Mafia, even the mayor—if you visit the club, you need to keep your business out of the club. If you don't, you will be kicked out and you will not be allowed to return.
How do they enforce their rules? Well, this is Texas, and they are Texan through and through. Even if you can't tell, it is a safe bet to assume that at any given moment, all of their employees are armed. Even the light and sound techs.
NPC INTRO: THE KNIGHT TEMPLAR PARENT
Meet DARCY JASON CRUZ-DUTTON. He's a 38-year-old SYNTH who is the OWNER of THE OBELISK, a neutral nightclub. He is notoriously known for being STUBBORN & HOT-HEADED but there are some people who have seen him being PERSISTENT & NURTURING. He reminds people a lot of loud grumbles that are rarely understood, a warm comforting hand on your shoulder, and being in the center of the hurricane, but that could just be because he's considered the KNIGHT TEMPLAR PARENT around town.
DJ owns The Obelisk alongside his wife Dahlia, with many of their family members and friends being employed under them. They have a strict neutrality rule, though he's not above trash talking the Big Three or the Skyport Mafia. As far as he's concerned they might as well all be the same in taking advantage of people.
He's a former member of the Coast Guard along with having grown up on a ranch. Texan down to his bones and with a quick temper, he will not hesitate to jump on anyone who threatens his family or the club.
With that being said he's always willing to help anyone who asks, you step foot into the club and he'll look out for you as long as you don't cause trouble.
NPC INTRO: THE DORK KNIGHT
Meet CALLOWAY DE LA LUNA. He's a 37-year-old HUMAN who is the HEAD LIBRARIAN at the UNIVERSITY OF THE METROPLEX. He is notoriously known for being INSOMNIAC & CRITICAL but there are some people who have seen him being TACTFUL & COMPETENT. He reminds people a lot of highlighted passages in a book, warm jumpers from the dryer, and hope for the day ahead, but that could just be because he's considered the DORK KNIGHT around town.
Cal may as well be the picture example when you look up the word librarian in the dictionary. Growing up in the foster care system with his twin sister, his only goal was to have a safe environment for people to go to.
He petitioned the university to allow the library to be open 24/7 along with being open to the general public not just to students. The fact that this made it easier for Citizen Uprising to conduct workshops at the university was purely coincidental.
Publicly like his wife, he does not endorse any particular faction, simply repeating that the university is a place of learning and open to everyone. The only time he will give his opinion is when the Big Three attempt any form of censorship on campus and is vocally opposed to them overstepping.
NPC INTRO: THE PARAGON
Meet CELIA DE LA LUNA. She's a 37-year-old HUMAN who is an ADMINISTRATOR at the UNIVERSITY OF THE METROPLEX. She is notoriously known for being STUBBORN & SELF-SACRIFICING but there are some people who have seen her being KIND & WELCOMING. She reminds people a lot of bright wildflowers, walking through the door to a home-cooked meal, and sacrifices made for the sake of your children, but that could just be because she's considered the PARAGON around town.
Celia is by no means a big player in the ongoing power struggle for the Metroplex. She came from humble beginnings, overcame adversity, and now lives a relatively quiet life as a wife, mother, and mid-level administrator at the university.
As a university employee, she has to outwardly maintain the same neutrality that UoM claims to have as a whole—despite the hefty donations that many of the departments receive from the Big Three and, secretly, the Skyport Mafia. If asked publicly, she will reaffirm the university's commitment to a fair learning institution and state that any donations have no impact on how the university runs.
However, much of the insider information that Citizen Uprising has gained about the inner workings of the university and the extent of the Big Three's influence has come to them from the administration team. Celia denies any involvement, but it is worth considering that two of her children are notable activists.
NPC INTRO: THE BLOOD-SPLATTERED WARRIOR
Meet THOMAS LUCCHESE. He's a 58-year-old SYNTH who is the CONSIGLIERE of the SKYPORT MAFIA, the local mob. He is notoriously known for being BRUTISH & CUTTHROAT but there are some people who have seen him being AFFABLE & REASONABLE. He reminds people a lot of a hush that falls when the ceremony begins, hiding your manipulations behind saccharine smiles, and a red stain blooming upon white sheets, but that could just be because he's considered the BLOOD-SPLATTERED WARRIOR around town.
Tommy comes from a long line of mafia enforcers, his marriage to Reina Lucchese wasn't solely out of love. It was an alliance between his family and hers, with hers being the one with more influence, he was more than proud to take her name.
Being too impatient to wait for his arm to heal, he had it replaced completely along with customizing it to double as a firearm. It's a Tommy gun, get it?
There is a code of respect to being in the Mafia that he is quick to enforce. Mafia members in good standing are afforded protection to them and their loved ones. There's no such thing as going outside the Mafia for help, you either handle it yourself or he will, you do not want Tommy to handle it.
NPC INTRO: THE QUEENPIN
Meet REINA LUCCHESE. She's a 45-year-old HUMAN who is the BOSS of the SKYPORT MAFIA, the local mob. She is notoriously known for being VICIOUS & VINDICTIVE but there are some people who have seen her being CALM & COMMANDING. She reminds people a lot of cigarette smoke in a dimly lit backroom, the gleam of a knife as it is deftly wielded, and calmly wiping blood off expensive Italian leather boots, but that could just be because she's considered the QUEENPIN around town.
Calling Reina mafia royalty would be the understatement of the century. Born into the notorious Lucchese crime family, she was given a name that is as beautiful as it is accurate, always knowing and fully embracing that it was her destiny to one day become queen over her family's empire.
Her husband Tommy, a long-time soldier in the mob who worked his way up the ranks, was her first and frankly only choice for both a spouse and an advisor. With him at her side, she has successfully expanded the mob's influence both in the lower district of the Metroplex and beyond.
She has an elegant air about her, and it is not uncommon for her to be warm and approachable while out in public—but those who know her well know not to cross her under any circumstances. She is not afraid to get her hands dirty, and if you make it personal then she will more than happily deal with you herself. And if she does? You're going to wish that she hadn't.
NPC INTRO: THE DARK MESSIAH
Meet TAURUS. He's a 38-year-old HUMAN who is the LEADER of the VIOLET MESSENGERS, a splinter group that have broken away from the other activists. He is notoriously known for being RUTHLESS & UNFORGIVING but there are some people who have seen him being CAPTIVATING & PERSUASIVE. He reminds people a lot of the smell of gasoline, impassioned speeches given in front of burning buildings, and a lifetime of bitter disappointment, but that could just be because he's considered the DARK MESSIAH around town.
Taurus—not his government name—was born and raised in the lower district. He spent his whole life experiencing hardship and witnessing the indignities suffered by the poorest citizens at the hands of the Big Three. Among his grievances are several faulty cybernetics that he is entirely dependent on but that frequently glitch out on him.
He joined Citizen Uprising with a few friends from his neighbourhood as well as his long-term girlfriend. On the surface, they shared the same ideals and drive to fight for fairer living conditions, but there was a bitterness in Taurus that he could never let go of. Over time, his hatred for those who had made him suffer began turning him more and more extreme in his ideology.
It was when he fully rejected the notion of peaceful protest and started vocally advocating for armed resistance that his girlfriend left him. She may not have agreed with him, but Taurus was far from alone in his thoughts among his peers, and after he broke away from the main movement, he quickly acquired a small but fiercely loyal group of followers. They are still the minority, but their ranks grow every day as conditions fail to improve in the lower district.
NPC INTRO: THE REBEL LEADER
Meet CLARA JONES. She's a 40-year-old SYNTH who is the LEADER of CITIZEN UPRISING, a local activist group. She is notoriously known for being ARROGANT & OBSTINATE but there are some people who have seen her being PASSIONATE & HONOURABLE. She reminds people a lot of the screech of a megaphone being lifted to the sky, bruises from getting thrown into the back of a police car, and the inability to slow down because you feel like you're running out of time, but that could just be because she's considered the REBEL LEADER around town.
Clara is the eldest daughter of a former cop and a homemaker. After her dad left the force, both he and his wife became vocal supporters of the growing activist movement, having experienced first hand through their three adopted synth children how broken the system is for them.
Meanwhile, Clara developed a very 'screw the rules, I'm doing what's right' mentality. It was because of her passion, charisma, and the way that she walked and talked like she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was right that she was eventually elevated into a leadership position within the movement.
A wife of two, and a mother of two as well, she is frequently torn between her commitment to the cause and the safety of her family. It is because of her inner conflict that she has been on the lookout for new blood within their ranks that have what it takes to become the next faces and voices of the resistance.
NPC INTRO: THE ICE QUEEN
Meet AULIA DASAI-SHEHADI. She's a 52-year-old HUMAN who is the CEO of OMNICORP HOLDINGS, one of the Big Three corporations. She is notoriously known for being DEMANDING & UNSYMPATHETIC but there are some people who have seen her being AMBITIOUS & DEVOTED. She reminds people a lot of tailored pantsuits, being the daughter of a self-made man who fought tooth and nail for the American dream, and empty seats at your children's graduations, but that could just be because she's considered the ICE QUEEN around town.
Her parents were both first generation immigrants who came from humble beginnings and worked their way up in society. Eventually, her father was granted the role of CEO of OmniCorp Holdings based solely on merit.
Her father worked hard to make his family name synonymous with the company, and when he passed the position to Aulia, she did the same—all too aware that their wealth and success could be taken from them at any moment if they were not careful. Everything she does, and everything she has taught her children to do, is in order to secure the position that her father clawed his way into.
In public, she paints herself as a supporter of entrepreneurs, emphasising the hands-off approach that her company takes to the ventures that they acquire. Behind closed doors, she is known for making business decisions that are strategic but shrewd, disregarding the cost to people in favour of profit.
NPC INTRO: THE UNFETTERED
Meet JOSHUA GRAY GOLDING. He's a 53-year-old SYNTH who is the HEAD OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS at EPSILON LABS, one of the Big Three corporations. He is notoriously known for being SOCIOPATHIC & ENIGMATIC but there are some people who have seen him being PRAGMATIC & AMIABLE. He reminds people a lot of the crackle of an intercom, a smile that's sharper than a knife, and the feeling of being watched no matter where you are, but that could just be because he's considered the UNFETTERED around town.
Josh has been on the board of directors for over 20 years, becoming the youngest head in the Company's history before he was even 30 years old. The published story is that he started as an intern while in college and slowly worked his way up the ladder. The worst part? It's true.
CEO's have come and gone over the years, but Josh has never lost his position. Many times the position was offered to him, but he always humbly turned it down. This is because it's much easier to throw a CEO under the bus whenever the company faces any backlash, always careful over who the board elects for the position.
He has a cool temperament, rarely losing his temper in public or even raising his voice. Most people would describe him as easy going and really making it feel like they're part of the Epsilon family. However anything that could harm the image of the company is quickly corrected or eliminated.
NPC INTRO: THE ARCHANGEL
Meet LOGAN WEIN. He's a 66-year-old HUMAN who is the CTO of DRAKETECH, one of the Big Three corporations. He is notoriously known for being CALCULATING & ARTIFICIAL but there are some people who have seen him being BENEVOLENT & DEBONAIR. He reminds people a lot of the hiss of a soldering iron, measured responses to keep your real goals hidden, and a burning desire to find the solution to everything, but that could just be because he's considered the ARCHANGEL around town.
The secretive and longstanding CTO of DrakeTech, it's often rumored that the Wein family were deeply entrenched in the mob and this is how they got all their positions of power. This is untrue - the real story is just that the patriarchs of both families grew up together, so it was only natural that their sons would be close and take over for their fathers when the time came. This is how Logan became CTO of DrakeTech shortly after Alexander took over the company.
Can come off as clipped and a little judgmental, and he is, but once you're part of the DrakeTech corporation, you're family, and he's a little warmer to those who work at the company. He has a very strained relationship with the people running Epsilon labs, but it's not really his job to deal with them.
While Alexander is the money man, Logan is the ideas man. He has the technology know how to actually put together different concepts and advanced technology, often the go to for prototypes or a second opinion of something is viable or not.
