re: playfully murdering people. Duel Monsters don’t die. They go to the graveyard, they can just be brought right back (and indeed, that’s kind of Cydra’s playstyle right now), and even if they aren’t, they’re back next game. So Thuban’s take on being killed is just ‘mild inconvenience’. Plus Academia kind of encourages murder anyway, and Thuban is nothing if not a poster child for Academia Monster Conduct™.

On their inception: Cyber End Dragon didn’t really have much in the way of a Duel Spirit before Academia’s ‘doctors’ started torturing Ryo. Not only did the pain bring Cyber End’s spirit forth to tell them to knock it off, but it eventually split them into Cyber End and Malefic (and we can guess who inherited all the desire to kill those torturing Academia fucks).
