Anyone who knows me understands my distaste for the idea of humans with tails but as long as the tail is thin, semi-opposable, and not heavy, humans should be fully capable of growing sensible tails
A huge reason why we dont grow tails is because we moved from being semi-plantigrade to fully plantigrade. As tree dwelling primates, our semi-elevated heels allowed us to grasp with our feet. Our C-shaped spine allowed us to flex our lower backs! And, of course, we have our tails. Prehensile tails that grasped on branches and served as an extra limb.
As the climate changed, and the trees dried up and turned into savanna, the monkeys split and became the apes — and from our chimpanzee friends, we emerged. Our spine turned to an S shape, and that could no longer support a tail. We did not needed our tails, not anymore.
You will notice that many plantigrade species lack long tails. Bears, apes.
But many do! Outside of our semi-plantigrade monkey friends, animals like kangaroos, mice, raccoons have non-prehensile tails — with plantigrade legs! Their tails are everything from counterweights, to balancing, to thermal regulation.
Now the question — would humans have tails? (No, we, like bears, don't need tails for anything. Honestly, bears only use it as an asshole cover.)
So what if humans were forced to have tails?
Thermal Regulation — like squirrels and rats, we wouldn't need tails to keep warm — we evolved in warmer climates, so we sweat! Perhaps our tails would be bare skinned, to assist in keeping us cool.
Balance — Our skeletons adapted to naturally balance our weight, so we dont need a tail like our kangaroo friends! Or monkeys, we lack the physical flexibility. So, they might be short, like a bear's. Maybe no longer than a the size of one's hands.
Expression — Dogs and other animals like lemurs use their tail as signals. It would be highly unlikely that our tails would be long for expression.
Biologically speaking, humans would have a vestigial tail, like the bears of present day — or our ancestors of before!
Humans HAVE tails, or at least evidence of a tail, in our skeletal record! The fused coccyx, or tailbone, is what is left of our ancient tails, now used as to assist in balance and organ structure.
Cyder, thats boring! Nobody wants an asshole cover for a tail! That's what our asscheeks are for! I don't give a fuck if we'd only have the human equivalent of a gas tank cover on my ass! I want a tail!
Then my friend, you'd have to completely reorganize your anatomy.
Humans are, anatomically, completely unable to have a tail. Genetically speaking, our tail having cousins are separated by 30 million years of evolution. Any tail we do get, if it happens, is less a tail and a limp... fleshy.... finger thing.
The only way Homo sapiens sapiens is getting a fully functional tail in any capacity if is any one possessed the X-Gene. It simply cannot be done otherwise

What's the difference between Remy being within Apocalypse vs Apocalypse being within Remy. Isnt the body still just a vessel?
Well yes but the relationship is different.
When Rogue tried to touch Death, but found her touch didn't work, it's because Remy isn't alive in the traditional sense. Whatever dark forces Apocalypse knows about reanimated Remy's corpse, and then Apocalypse inhabited Remy's corpse. Death, as a Horseman, is simply Apocalypse exerting his will on Remy's body and soul so much that the true Remy is trapped in a sort of limbo. The body is UnDead. The will that controls it is not it's own and the body is merely a flesh puppet.
Rogue was able to pull Remy's will out of Apocalypse, but now Apocalypse resides within Remy. His will/spirt, forcibly revived, is unable to fully exert its control on the body. Another force within poisons and weaken it. The body is UnLiving, alive... but barely.
I think Remy's own will is Dormant, and its Apocalypse's much more reduced will that is keeping Remy breathing.
The idea of foxes and raccoons self domesticating when in reality its animals adapting to urbanization and trying to survive in a new ecological niche so they dont fucking die has my brain in a fucking twist.
You ever adapt your behavior depending on the environment? The shit that pours out of my mouth next to my friends is not the same shit you'll hear at work — its me adapting to my environment in order to survive a sociological niche. I am not self-domesticating myself to the corporate world, I am adapting to my environment.
Can we please shut up about the self domestication thing because that's not whats happening!
And here's what really grinds my gears, and I'll especially focus on foxes — they've been adapting for centuries. The raids on chicken coops and rabbit hutches that made them pests in agricultural areas is that "self-domestication" in action. Only that when its detrimental to us, we don't call it that. We took their forests and prey sources so they adapted. Then the chickens went away and the farm turned into suburbia and the prey became cat food, trash, mice, and pigeons. Then sympathetic humans left plates of raw chicken and eggs and the foxes who were most willing adapted once again.
Maybe you'll see extreme examples where foxes are coming into people's homes, resting on laps, accepting food off plates. These wild-turned-tame foxes are only adapting to their most immediate environment. Take the easy access to prey away and your hamster is the next item on the menu. Your home will become their den because that's the environment most optimal for survival. Start laying traps and shooing them away, and the foxes will leave and adapt to a new environment.
They arent self-domesticating. They're adapting to new environments because survival is a game of cost v benefit.
And yes I know pet foxes exist, I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the self-domesticstion myth revolving wild foxes.
For people still wondering how I'm doing... it's a mixed bag! But I will mainly be focusing on the status of my commissions and store in this post. :)
First off, I'm happy to announce I'll be hosting a small artist alley July 24-26th during the new online HS convention, Pesterfest! I'll have commissions, customs, and store products available with a couple of adjustments including Beta Troll editions of the Ectobiology Shaker charms and a bonus sticker for the collection (wink wink). Alongside from a couple new additions, ALL my store items are returning for this event! Which brings me to my second announcement...
I'm sure a lot of you have noticed I havent been very active much, and it took an extremely long time to reach this conclusion out of guilt and fear of appearing like I'm abandoning my responsibilities as a commission artist. Thankfully, my clients have been very patient and understanding of my life struggles, and its why its important for me to finally swallow my own pride and admit to taking a lot more than I can reasonably chew.
After this event, my store and commissions will unfortunately be closed til the unforseeable future. I will put my focus on my remaining commissions and orders, and moving forward I would really like to put more focus on my personal art, as well as telling a story I've been sitting on for a long, long time. I am grateful for every single one of my followers over my most active years, and everyone who's still curious to stick around. Without your support I wouldn't be where I am in my art journey today.
Thank you all very much, and I hope you will enjoy what I have in store later in the future! 💖 ⚡️
