kirishima lost sakura, who was his hs sweetheart, at quite a young age and left behind their daughter for kirishima to raise alone. i wish we got a kznb to go more in depth but ofc it was hard but this was nearly a decade ago and he’s had a lot of time to process this bereavement
he purposely enters yokozawa’s life mistakenly at the initial point of the grief. during the fight (which i’ll discuss a little more later), kirishima says he sees his younger self in yokozawa. i see this as kirishima probably had orbited his whole life around sakura, especially in her last few months, and thus created dependence and service towards her. when she died, that identity had nowhere to go for a little but he had to quickly “get up” for hiyori. and now he sees yokozawa struggling with that dependent identity that has nowhere to go anymore, and when this is called out ofc yokozawa reacts negatively
but to circle to kirishima i’ve overall found him really interesting. he quite consistently gives off emotional maturity which is understandable. with this, he knows that people want him and he keeps people at an arms length. he has hiyori after all, and it’s once said iirc that women tend to be complicated about kirishima being a single father. either pushing away, using hiyori to get close, or being weird with hiyori. his daughter is his #1. he knows that people want him for his looks and charisma. so he’s never very serious with ppl he dates and can easily hide behind a masquerade of being teasing, and that’s what initially happens with yokozawa
before the main events, yokozawa has already caught his interest but doesn’t act. when he does act, it’s an impulsive u-turn into the bar. he finds out everything about takano and can probably see the grief but is also interested in the chase this attractive man has just laid out for him. kirishima is used to ppl vying for him, but yokozawa wants nothing to do with him. yokozawa might not even be attracted to him at all and keeps telling kirishima he’s annoying. but kirishima is ultimately still drawn to the chase and the sincere personality of yokozawa he can see underneath, especially with hiyori. yokozawa isn’t trying to have kirishima fall in love with him, so his relationship with hiyori comes naturally. without yokozawa trying and kirishima really realizing it, yokozawa slips into a domestic lifestyle where he’s expected to be there.
but the catch is yokozawa never wanted to be there in the first place. yes, he adores hiyori, but what about kirishima? kirishima has let someone nestle in so deep into his life without knowing if yokozawa genuinely even likes him. and this hits a painful realization when yokozawa and takano talk. kirishima sees them but has no idea what they spoke about, but the thing that looks obvious is that yokozawa’s orbit still revolves around takano no matter how hard kirishima tried, and no matter how close yokozawa got to the kirishima’s without trying.
so kirishima calls yokozawa out on the dependency and grief both as the “mature one” and a “don’t you see im better? why won’t you fully look at me?” way. but when yokozawa lashes out and tells kirishima to leave and he doesn’t want to see his face again, kirishima accepts it. because atp kirishima has realized this isn’t a fun teasing thing anymore, but that kirishima has genuinely fallen for someone who he perceives won’t even truly look at him. so he walks away as continuing to force proximity would do neither good when now kirishima wants a genuine relationship where he’s chosen reciprocally
and yokozawa does choose him, because yokozawa later admits that kirishima helped him get over his grief and that he actually does love kirishima 😋
i didn’t really include yokozawa because i think his side is easier to read? buuut i did want to add that feeling needed and wanted by the kirishima’s fulfilled his sorta itch of the hole that takano left of depending on yokozawa
and i really do love yokozawa’s insecurity of sakura… so maybe another day…

the emerald department has also a notorious reputation among marukawa for sharing similarities with a specific photography club and even mino is a member of it. isaka insists that smth like this boosts morale, creativity, and trust but he’s a client himself. when onodera has his first day he’s mortified by the “emerald club” and the threats from everyone in the department saying he has to fulfill his duty at one point. when he goes to isaka to complain to a higher-up, isaka smiles and says he knows and even engages sometimes and onodera’s face pales white as he realizes everyone is insane (also emerald department ≠ club… can leave the club but still work in the department)
takaritsu: just kinda imagine that takano never truly left his college arc depressed hoe phase. they wouldn’t recognize who each other are for even longer than canon. they’d feel this magnetic pull between them, but because of both their cynical mindsets, they’d try their best to jsut ignore it. but takano can see how onodera rejects all the advances from others but especially gets red and blushy which he loves to poke at. onodera also finds himself subconsciously noting whenever takano goes off to his “meetings” and who he’s with, getting more jealous and bothered when it’s yokozawa. he can’t wrap his head around why he’s feeling pits of jealousy for a sexually harassing boss. takano manages to kinda drown his own feelings out with sleeping, but when he realizes who onodera is eventually, he goes super clingy and possessive mode. it’s no longer about teasing the new hire, but having to restore his image to the boy whose seen it skewed more than once and left before and onodera has to reconcile that the past and present masamune are the same person
asaisa: isaka may have or may have not somehow kinda help kickstart the emerald club… but who knows. asahina certainly does know of the club himself and how isaka engages in it. these two never managed to confess their feelings for each other but have been still joined at the hip. asahina is his secretary still who knows everything including who isaka is meeting. isaka is a thrill-seeker hiding his insecurity. to others, he looks perfectly content indulging himself, but he’s insecure about what asahina thinks. he believes asahina looks down at him not only for engaging in that stuff, but for being queer as well. so he acts bold and flirty in general to hide his terror. on the opposite end, asahina has to watch the love of his life engage with all these acts and look like he’s having fun while with him, isaka acts like he can’t stand his lecturing. asahina cannot rationalize that isaka would want to commit to someone as “boring and stern” as asahina, so he keeps quiet just to stay next to him. eventually they would get tg as the club is falling apart
torichia: hatori has managed to hide from chiaki the emerald club antics for a while now as he’d feel ashamed if chiaki found out. but one day while chiaki is at marukawa, he happens to learn the surface of it and asks hatori later what it’s about. hatori is mortified and tries to cover it up, saying it helps coworkers with bonding and creativity. yoshino innocently asks if it would help with his manga and the creative block he’s in, and when hatori says yes, yoshino asks to try it out. ever since then, they engage with each other decently. hatori frames it more manipulatively now telling chiaki it helps with writing ideas for his manga, and chiaki believes him and doesn’t mind it. but hatori feels guilty for lying, but also still indulges in it because now he gets to be close with chiaki like he’s always selfishly wanted. eventually, it would come to a head where chiaki innocently and genuinely says it’s a help and lifesaver, and hatori confesses that it was all a lie and that he was using chiaki for his own desires. chiaki feels hurt that hatori lied to him when he trusts him so much. then it would follow a kinda similar pattern canonically BUT hatori is the first to leave the club activities as he commits to yoshino fully and cannot be engaging in them still. and as a stoic and reliable person, he’s the first domino
yukisa: this would honestly be the most similar to canon? kisa fully takes on the persona of the emerald club and is one of the most vocal and active members. he’s insecure about his ability to love and his age but in marukawa, nobody cares about either of those. but yukina still catches his eye and happenstances lead them to the cafe kiss and more. but kisa still cannot wrap his head around the idea that a sparkly prince like yukina would ever want him, so he self-sabotages even quicker. he tells yukina about the club and that he’s not quitting and that yukina should find a young girl he actually likes. kisa knows he potentially just threw a great guy away but can’t imagine a possibility where yukina could like him. but kisa still kinda watches yukina, and yukina is very persistent and eventually tells kisa that admittedly, he’s never been insecure before and he is with kisa and the club activities, but that he genuinely does love kisa and wants kisa to choose him. kisa, somewhat also shaken by hatori’s decision to leave the club activities, takes the leap of faith and quits himself to be with yukina
kiriyoko: yokozawa is takano’s #1 client. if he can’t be with takano for real, he’ll reach that part of takano the only way he can which is through the club while also being his best friend. i also imagine kirishima would engage in it occasionally, but never really be fully committed. but kirishima would notice things between takano and yokozawa, the hostility of yokozawa to onodera, and overall watch from the sidelines the dissolution of the club leaving only the department. when the club dissolves and yokozawa is left rejected by takano, kirishima decides to swoop in and ask yokozawa for a drink. cause kirishima could always clearly see that the club was yokozawa’s excuse
ijuuyuu: both of these guys were never indulging in it. yanase always saw it as deplorable and ofc saw hatori as the same and would taunt him for it in regards to yoshino finding out. ijuuin was aware of it, but was too busy chasing after misaki and deadlines to ever really engage in it. once both are rejected by yoshino and misaki respectively, they lose their “only” chance to actually experiment with guys as the club has been dissolved. during their canon drinking, yuu also mentions the emerald club and how stupid it was. ijuuin politely disagrees, saying he’s sure it helped people realize feelings even if complicated. yuu is cynical, but ijuuin suggests that they give it a try as they already confessed their heartbreaks were guys
that’s all for the couples! some extra stuff is that mino probably leaves after kisa (idk anything about him). takano leaves formally after everyone else does but stopped a while before. misaki often gets mistaken for being in the emerald club or told he should join and he gets really bothered while usagi makes misaki promise to never ever engage in it. thank you for reading this is def smth lol

The main conflict at the beginning was that when Isaka and Asahina met, they already were at a power imbalance. Isaka assumed Asahina was friends and his caretaker out of obligation and debt to his father for saving them. As long as the power imbalance was there, Isaka would’ve spent his whole life telling himself Asahina was “in love” with his father to save his heart at the possibility of maybe Asahina didn’t even really like him romantically (main reason), and as a person.
Therefore, Asahina always had to be the one to shatter their imbalance, and that’s exactly what he did in this act.
When Isaka kissed Asahina and pinned him on the couch, Asahina had no idea why. The only thing he knew was that Isaka was down for some reason. That could’ve been due to a girl rejecting him or he was just bored. It was a bad, unexplained move on Isaka’s part but imo purely driven by impulsive desperation with no real expectation. But if Asahina had reciprocated at that point, their power imbalance would’ve still been intact. Maybe they could’ve moved onto a romantic relationship, but Isaka would probably constantly wonder “Did he just accept because he has to ‘please’ me as part of his duty?” And Asahina may wonder if Isaka just sees him as a plaything. Their foundation would’ve been built on sand.
That’s why I love Asahina pushing him off and immediately saying “Why do you always do things to trouble me?” Asahina thinks he’s being toyed with. I’ll come back to this, but in the true confession later, Asahina apologizes first before confessing, saying he doesn’t wish to be a burden with his feelings. That ties directly with the pushing-off quote. He thinks his feelings are a burden and have been something he’s hidden for years. His feelings are his most troubling aspect of his personality. He is torn between guiding Isaka to the right path and wanting him for himself. Isaka’s existence is a trouble to him and him thinking Isaka has found him out and making fun of his feelings is the worst possibility ever because now he actually has become a burden and is now being looked down upon. Then not only that, but after this Isaka insecurely lashes out and basically says to stop taking care of him. Asahina in this scene feels he has been completely stripped open, made fun of, then tossed aside. What use now does he have?
Then Asahina moves out, quits, and returns the flower which is so amazing. Yes, he does want to see if he makes it in his own. But he also sees himself as a burden to the Isakas as a whole, and that flower of course is him “letting go” of his feelings and also the shackles of loving him. Asahina is a perfectly capable man, he never truly “needed” the Isakas to be successful. Along the same line, the Isakas don’t need him (and he possibly thought he wasn’t wanted, as shown that once it’s all good he returns to Marukawa).
Now it’s the rainy confession scene. Isaka has realized he’s made a terrible mistake of ignoring Asahina and making him think he’s not wanted. In the apartment, Asahina hides behind the noble, unproblematic excuse (which is also true) that he wants to make it on his own. He also tells Isaka that he’s not his caretaker anymore, and therefore not tethered to him and doesn’t owe him anything. Isaka literally crumbles. He knows he now doesn’t have any authority over Asahina and has messed up. All he can do is muster a shaky “Don’t go” while grabbing onto Asahina’s wrist. This is the pivotal scene showing that the power imbalance has shifted drastically. Asahina used to be “under” Isaka as a caretaker and commanded. Here, Asahina is commanding Isaka to basically leave him alone. Isaka knows he can’t command him, so he begs him, as much as his ego can, to not go.
But, of course, Asahina loves Isaka and can’t stand seeing Isaka so disheveled. So he confesses, simultaneously apologizing for his feelings as a burden and that’s a reason why he left. After all Asahina likes him as a friend and they grew up together. Asahina was not confessing here expecting a positive reaction. They were conjoined at the hip since kids, of course Asahina and Isaka were close. But he also thought Isaka were straight and that he genuinely did like Asahina at least platonically as evidenced by him being sopping wet from the rain. This confession was pure-hearted with less to lose now.
But all this to say, for the same reason why it’s good Asahina didn’t reciprocate the kiss, Asahina had to be the one to confess first. It would’ve been the same cycle of wondering if it was duty or not. And honestly, Isaka has such low self esteem and coping (thinking he was in love with his dad BUT ALSO then wishing he was a woman so Asahina would love him) in regards to Asahina that I don’t think he ever would’ve confessed and power imbalance like I said.
I love it that Asahina was the one who flipped everything on its head as affectively emotionless as he is and was the forefront of having them become equals and setting up a good foundation.
And in the present they do play with their power imbalance to an extent, but they acknowledge this and are equals. Isaka is seemingly always the one chasing Asahina anyways and is still majorly insecure around him. They are both independent, successful men who choose to work and be with each other. The key is Asahina is choosing to stay, not because he has to.

i was left inspired (and i have nothing better to do), so i wanna give my grain of salt with the couples excluded (trying to keep it as spoiler free as possible) :D
MISTAKE
It is actually hard to have a proper take on them (thats not based almost entirely on headcanons that is xd) considering there is almost no nsfw of them in canon: as far as i remember, they only have one full sex scene in act 1 and then like a few panels where they are shown fucking and from there on its, if anything, just implications of the fact that they fucked.
The first two are pretty standard tbh, but i feel you can actually decipher a few things from the third one. essentially that a) they actually do have a lot (A LOT) of sexual desire for each other, but try to keep it hidden so that it doesnt interfere with their jobs. b) Asahina may get pretty aggressive, considering he warns Isaka that he would regret practically begging to have sex with him. and c) Isaka himself is, for Nakamura standards, very very very dominant.
Considering the fact that (unlike what you'd expect from a good assertive uke like Kisa or even Hiroki) Isaka never seems to get on top of Asahina (other than whatever they were doing in act 1, most times we see them do it its in missionnaire), it seems to me that he simply is the one to initiate the whole thing, just to then let Asahina take the reins (the service top x pillow princess ever iktr !!).
SENTIMENT
There is also not much to say about them considering they are barely in their beginnings xd
From what I can gather so far, they both really seem to like touching each other. For instance, we can see from the fantasies Ijuuin had with Misaki that he just really likes to fill whoever his partner is with caresses even if he is not receiving any, and we can see this same thing in sentiment, although Yuu actually does reciprocate. And then there is this whole thing with Yuu being obsessed with Ijuuin's body (a bone fetish practically jfhjgjsjf) and wanting to touch it all.
Speaking of Yuu, we can also see that he seems to like being manhandled (considering he thinks at some point that he wouldn't mind being taken this way, even if it hurt), and that he loves physical shows of affection (like hugging and kissing) whenever he is feeling vulnerable.
It is also worth mentioning how much emphasis they both seem to put in pleasuring each other. Like everytime Ijuuin asks if Yuu wants to go all the way, and when the answer is negative find the way for both to feel good; and then Yuu being able to eventually do it despite his fears, and insisting Ijuuin doesn't need to put any extra effort for him (as we can see, there is some of Yuu's lack of self-worth intertwined in here :s)

I could literally talk about these two for hours because there is SO MUCH to be said (they kinda are, along romantica and nostalgia, probably the couple with the most growth in this regard), but I'll try to keep it brief kdhkfjskjfksjflsjfk
We can start by mentioning edging and dacryphilia as CONFIRMED kinks for them, as both are very present throughout the novels. Leaving the punishment thing aside (which tbh is mostly used as some sort of comic relief), it is essentially that Hatori loves to see Chiaki "drowning in pleasure" (i.e. overstimulated) as a way to show how much he desires him and as some sort of validation that Chiaki loves him back. So he does everything he can to get Chiaki to this point while putting a LOT of self restraint on himself to not just cum at the mere sight of him, only letting himself go once he sees Chiaki completely out of his mind.
And since he notices how much Hatori tends to keep things to himself, Chiaki appreciates being able to see this more "unkept" side of him. Willing to accept anything (ANYTHING :p) Hatori throws his way, Chiaki tends to take a pretty passive stance and just let Hatori do his thing (with a tiny bit of resistance at first bc Nakamura), although this doesn't mean he is all that submissive. Most of the time he ends up being the one to beg Hatori to go all the way (although its mostly bc of the overstimulation jdfhsjhfjshd), and it has even come to a point where he CONSCIOUSLY provokes him more than once (just to then have Hatori go "oooh he keeps unconsiously provoking me omgggg >.<" jdhdjghjdhfj he is so STUPIDDDD).
Idk idk idk but as a whole the fact that Hatori is constantly worrying about Chiaki being straight (lmao) and forcing himself into the relationship, while Chiaki is so self conscious about not being as attractive as a woman, just for both of them to be so ridiculously down bad for the other it´s pretty poetic to me in its own special way ^^ and it is something that can be particularly evident in some of their sex scenes (like i already explained it on Hatori, and then you have Chiaki constantly fawning on how hoooot Hatori is and how goooood he is at sex and blah blah blah).
All this to say that, for a couple that most of the time fucks in missionnaire-ish position (although this changes as the novels progress), these two bitches are NASTY.
TRIFECTA
And as expected from another couple developed by Fujisaki, these two are also FREAKS.
Kirishima is kinda like an Usagi on steroids (this considering it'd be a lot harder to tame Yokozawa than Misaki jdhfjshfj). He is VERY descriptive and more than once mentioned to be pretty aggresive (there are even mentions of Yokozawa leaving quite prominent marks on Kirishima's back,,). What is key in him is that he LOVES to tease Yokozawa in any way he can (leaving the usual caressing aside, there is a LOT of dirty talk........), to the point he kinda admits that simply seeing him pissed off turns him on kdjfjgsgkshjg He also doesnt seem to mind public sex at all, considering he gets Yokozawa to do it in a car and more than once he tries to initiate things in the office,,,,
(also he kinda has a foot fetish but shhhhhhh)
But oddly enough, Yokozawa himself is about as freaky as Kirishima (up to the point he even questions if he is not a masochist kdhkfjskjg). Pretty much because he knows that his attitude turns on Kirishima, and he knows that it could all be avoided very easily by just not being so prideful to fall for such stupid provocations,, and yet he keeps doing it every single time. It is constantly shown, and even explicitly said, that he prefers that Kirishima is rough with him, because he is a freak but also because he would rather not seem vulnerable in front of him; and even if he doesn't love the idea of bottoming, he lets it happen just for Kirishima. To me, all this is proof of two things: how much Yokozawa loves Kirishima to be willing to take ANYTHING he throws his way, and how insecure he is to not tear down his own barriers around him.

i absolutely agree that isaka is a pillow princess through and through. i’d like to imagine asahina is the first and only person he’s ever been submissive too (as i imagine isaka was a playboy back in college lol).
i also think asahina is a severe service top with a hint of being a stone as well. i’d imagine the majority of his pleasure comes from pleasing isaka and reducing the ceo and “bocchan” into a complete mess and being the only one capable of doing it and having that power. but the moment isaka tries to initiate any service to asahina, he’d be hesitant to comply. in his mind, asahina being the ‘servant’ is so engrained in his mind still he cannot imagine why isaka would want to please instead of be pleased and would feel uncomfortable having isaka do that

Takano and Onodera's relationship fascinates me so much because of their Impatient × Indecisive dynamic. Onodera doesn't have the confidence to say "I love you", and Takano literally cannot wait for him to. And that leads to two problems:
Takano seems to be invalidating Onodera's concerns
Takano is saying Onodera does not need to be decisive to have him
Which is why they were stuck for so long. When Takano asks Onodera "How many times do we have to sleep together before you'll be mine?" it made me scream at the screen: "That is the problem! That is YOUR PROBLEM!!" The sex may affirm their mutual attraction, but it's also distracting them from truly addressing what's keeping them from becoming official! These two are so frustrating it makes me laugh.
If I were writing the story (or adapting it), I would bring Hatori and Kisa into the fold—they speak with Takano and Onodera respectively. Kisa is also someone with low self-esteem and once thought he wasn't good enough for Yukina, yet they're able to date. When Onodera asks how, Kisa answers Yukina was able to give reassurance for everything he was concerned of. Onodera then realizes he's never gotten any reassurance from Takano. Meanwhile, Takano and Hatori are drinking, and the latter is very drunk and complaining about Chiaki getting on his nerves. Hatori wonders aloud if Chiaki is taking him for granted, so he acts the way he does, knowing Hatori will never leave him, and annoyed as he is, Hatori admits he's glad this is at least happening after they've started dating, while Takano ponders whether Onodera is taking him for granted with how much he keeps delaying his confession.
Nao, in my adaptation, also serves to highlight these problems (as nothing more than a concerned friend). He'd get the wrong idea but still hit the nail on the head by saying stuff like "You think just because you can say 'I love you' so sweetly, you can do anything to Ritsu and it'll be okay?!" and "There's no way you're enjoying letting that jerk take the lead and decide everything for the two of you, right?"
ive being so much stuff about takano x yokozawa so i just wanted to put in my two cents. i think they’re functionally incompatible because of their pride. but i kinda want to dive into my interpretation of them over their course (and there’s a lot of interpretation cause there’s barely anything about their college days </3)
i think yokozawa really admired takano for his being. he was aloof, confident, intelligent, and mysterious and that’s what pulled him in. yokozawa explicitly says smth he remembers fondly is that he was the only one that takano let in. there was this confident and handsome dude being the only one confiding to yokozawa, who’s already mistaking love with admiration. he feels indispensable and needed by this highly competent guy which fuels his ego and protectiveness
takano on the other hand is already pretty unstable. he’s hesitant to get close to anyone, but yokozawa seems stable and honestly maybe straight? cause… yokozawa had a gf. i’m sure takano was wary to not get close and fall for another guy who could break his heart again and that leads me to…
takano and yokozawa taking advantage of each other. takano had hit rock-bottom, and whether or not he knew yokozawa had feelings for him, he was willing to throw their friendship away. yokozawa realizes he does have feelings for takano, and takes arrange of that to sleep with him multiple times at his lowest. i interpret this time as pretty toxic, but yokozawa still has takano’s best interests at heart. even if takano sleeps with others, pushes yokozawa away, and ultimately tells yokozawa they can only be friends. yokozawa genuinely cares and does help takano get out of his slump. and takano is grateful- but he regrets crossing that line
i think their friendship is great with mutual respect and i love it. yokozawa helps takano out and gets him his job at marukawa. takano affirms yokozawa when he’s self conscious about being seen as “scary” when he’s just started in sales. but yokozawa is chasing a losing battle. i see it as takano wants to throw the whole past away, and yokozawa’s feelings are part of it BUT he doesn’t know yokozawa still has lingering feelings. he took it at face value when yokozawa said he’d just be friends. takano’s looking ahead while yokozawa is stuck in a limbo. they continue to be drinking buddies where takano pours his heart out, and yokozawa mostly keeps to himself because he wants to be the “protector” and “put-together one” as a callback to takano’s lowest. he doesn’t allow himself to feel vulnerable
but i don’t think either would’ve worked as a couple. they’re both too proud imo. yokozawa is snappy and obsessive about competence, takano is calm with his main thing being emotional maturity (basically) so he never needed anything from yokozawa. we see yokozawa “submitting” his pride in a sense to kirishima, but i just can’t see that with takano. cause takano dgaf. kirishima does and will affectionately tease yokozawa out of genuine love, and yokozawa feels comfortable enough to “swallow his pride” and be seen at his softest in return. he has always been boastful and prideful with takano, because takano had always been the one person he’s wanted to impress. but takano doesn’t ever fully look or acknowledge him. their personalities just would clash and never lead the way to vulnerability.
simply put, takano doesn’t necessarily need yokozawa anymore (not to say their friendship should cripple and die). in fact i want to see them hanging out again 😔 yokozawa always needed someone to feel indispensable. but takano needed someone who didn’t baby and hover over him and acknowledges his wounds
