btw this isn't solely a disability rights issue or an issue about people who are entirely unable to work. you should also be thinking about the people who are regarded as unhireable. transfems are hugely discriminated against in this way, people of color are passed over for less qualified white people, anyone who has any difficulty playing the interview game is less hireable... frankly anyone who made the mistake of pursuing the things they love and now has a degree for a niche field. if you still joke about Jobless People it's because you've fundamentally connected the worth of people to their labor, and specific labor, work that you see as valuable. and while i'm at it stop making fun of people who still live with their parents. asshole.

There are also nine Muses singing to his lyre, which are the sublunar sphere, and seven spheres of the planets, and one of the fixed stars. And they crowned him with laurel, partly because the plant is full of fire, and therefore hated by daemons; and partly because it crackles in burning, to represent the God’s prophetic art.”

*clarifying. In the paragraph just before covering the solar Gods Porphyry discusses Hephaistos, who is Fire, and the emanating power of Fire from the cosmic ethereal fire down to the worldly fire. He introduces the Sun (Helios) as the synectic power of the solar Gods in that context. When Porphyry refers to daemons here, he’s most likely referring to daemons which he classes as irrational, being specifically those that bring harm to humans and not all daemons (which he has written about elsewhere). The power of the Muses here is (in my interpretation) equated to the music of the spheres, the fixed stars being the sphere of the constellations in ancient astrology-astronomy.

oh what a lovely insight! i’ve made a mini essay specifically on how, while i don’t syncretize Apollon with the sun incarnate in my personal practice, i COMPLETELY understand how it came to be.

semi-related small tangent ahead as i just wanted to clarify a point. (also! thank you for the addition to the post. it’s a lovely description of mt. olympus’s favorite golden boy and could be a good reading rec)

i’ve gotten minor flack for my original post as people claimed i’m ignoring the history behind the syncing. it wasn’t intentional! i knew about the historical association of Apollon with the sun itself when the first post was made and i was simply speaking to my own associations. when i equated Apollon to the sun it felt like shoving a square piece in a circle hole in terms of how naturally it fit into my worship. after much praise and worship i’ve taken the unconventional path of equating Zeus to the sun instead.
