She took it willingly, flicking through it. “Oh wow..Yeah..” She agreed looking up at him. “So I’m guessing you’re into it? I wish I was..I really wish. I dated a photographer–They’re pretty cool.” She teased.

“Are they? I’ve never dated a photographer but I’ll take your word for it.” 

“Yeah, I’m really into it, it being photography.”

Tessa immediately put the book back down when his voice reached her ears, clasping her fingers around her coffee instead. “No.” She mumbled quickly, taking a sip of her cup. “I was just looking at the title.”

Cyrus gave a short chuckle and nodded. “Oh.”’ He pulled the cover open, setting his drink down to look through it.  “If you like photography it’s a pretty good read.”

PAST:

Cyrus grew up in Massachusetts with his parents up until he was eight, at that point they split apart from each other. His father was a biker guy, and his mother was just too sweet to hang out with his crew. Their separation wasn’t all that hard on him, nor them, it was best for all involved. truly.

He visited his father on the weekends, and he rode with him and his friends. It was on the way to one of those rides, the weekend after Cyrus’ birthday, with the crew that his father died.With a stop light between him and his boy. Being an organized and prepared man Cyrus’ father already had his will written up.

To Cyrus he’d left his bike, and everything in his garage and storage. The storage hadn’t ever been sorted through but Cyrus’ mom convinced him to go look through it to find anything that would be worth keeping. When he went sifting through all the junk in that storage locker what he found was definitely worth it. He’d found a camera. A camera that grew to be an extension of him. He fell in love with photography and his friends dwindled down from the friends on his soccer team and regrew as people he wanted to spend hours talking and taking pictures of. He fell in love with photography quicker than he’d ever thought was imaginable.

PRESENT:

His photography led him to take Journalism as a major in college and he earned himself a spot on a blog. He’s Mr. Wednesdays. He moved out of his mother’s house just recently to move into Westbrook, he’d taken a bit of time off of school and gone to community college when he did end up going, so he’s fresh out of college and looking to live life. His debts are paid and he’s on the hunt for lovely models, love, and maybe a nicer place to work than in North End. But for now? He’s content.

Instead of saying anything in return, sienna happily seated herself before the man, and pulled out the notebook she had been writing in for days. She pulled a single strand of hair behind her ear and began to write before looking back up. She was pleased to learn that he too was new around here. It had only been about a three weeks since Sienna had arrived, so it was nice to hear she wasn’t alone.

“Oh, you’re new as well? I couldn’t tell ya if this was out of the ordinary or not, as this is only the second time I’ve been to this place. Seems pretty popular, though perhaps everyone is just on break from work and decided to come here for a quick bite to eat or something. - So, where did you move from, if you don’t mind me asking?”

She seemed chipper, which was different for someone who was getting coffee. He was surprised to hear she was new, he really hadn’t even thought about anyone having just moved in as well.

“It’s a very nice and aesthetically pleasing building, so I can only imagine it’s popular for the right reason.” He smiled, it was a very nice place indeed. “That may be it, everyone gets a bit hungry at this hour.”

“I’m from Massachusetts actually, it’s not wicked personal or anything.” He laughed, he couldn’t see why he wouldn’t let her know where he’d lived previously. “How about you, where are you from, if I’m allowed to ask?”

Tessa wasn’t good at making conversation with strangers unless there was alcohol in her blood. And it was that awkward time of the day when the alcohol from last night had just left her veins, and no new alcohol had entered her blood system just yet. So she stayed quiet as she sipped on her coffee, enjoying that she could finally sit and relax. That was, until the other guy at the table just got up and left.

“No problem.” She mumbled when he was already gone, hesitating a moment before she reached over the table to lift up his book, catching a glance at what he was reading.

When he returned he had an iced coffee in hand and he was sipping at it absently, he noticed his book was in her grasp. He smiled somewhat, settling into his seat once more.

 “Anything look particularly eye-catching in there?” He asked, he had already skimmed through it but he was taking his time this time around.

Valerie never went to The Beanery much before, but since Toby had started to work there, she found herself going again and again, trying new things and finding things she particularly enjoyed. Today, she had gone at a time when it was ultimately very busy, and Valerie was the type of girl who liked to sit and enjoy her cup of tea to truly enjoy it rather than take off and run errands or do something else while half absently sipping from her cup and burning her tongue.

All the spots were full, except one and although she hated to be that person, she knew there really was nowhere else to go. She lingered behind the chair, debating whether or not to disturb the stranger about the seat but it was as though he read her mind. She offered a smile and took a seat. “Thanks, I appreciate it,” she nodded. “Normally I get lucky and the place isn’t so busy but today was not one of those days.”

“I had no idea it was going to get this busy, normally I wouldn’t be here but I’m too stubborn to leave now that I’ve been here for--” A pause so he could glance at his watch beneath his jacket. “An hour and a half.” 

“Do you come around here often then?” He asked, tapping the side of his coffee, he’d gotten the second one just before the rush had come in.

“I’ve had worst starts,” Hannah said with a grin, settling into the seat and placing her iced coffee on a napkin. Her hand came out to greet his. “Nice to meet you too, Cyrus. I’m Hannah.  Curious eyes gazed at the book he’d been looking at. It was open to a particularly interesting picture, and she let out a soft “Oh…I wish I could take photos like that. I’m lucky if I can snap a candid without getting my thumb in the way.”

“Oh these are great photographs, definitely. I bet your candids come out with a lot of feeling though.” Cyrus smiled and took a longer look at the photo on the page and nodded. “Yeah, I wish I could take something as gorgeous as all of these.”

“It is chaotic, but a fun chaotic… If that makes any sense.” She laughed, knowing full well she probably sounded crazy. “Oh? That sounds like fun. Bridge Cafe is nice, too, despite it being in North End. I’m sure you’ll like it there, and I’ll be sure to stop by and say hi. Do you live in North End, then?”

“It might make a little sense.” He laughed somewhat. “Stressful things can be rewarding.”

“Yeah, I have a feeling I’ll like it there too, but no I don’t live in North End. I live this way, in Westbrook. But everywhere around here seemed really intimidating to apply for.”

“Oh..Oh no don’t move on my accord.” Belle shook her head as she peered at his book. “What are you reading?” She asked curiously smiling.

“Uh, it’s called Two by Melissa Ann Pinney.” He said, sitting back to let her look at it.  “It’s a photography book, she’s got some pretty interesting shots.”

“I’m hoping this way if I ever need a favour I can go to her and ask.” She admitted honestly, taking a sip of her coffee. “I teach kindergarten. It’s fun, I love being around kids. What do you do as a job? If you don’t mind me asking.”

“Kindergartners? That sounds like fun with a couple of children but an entire classroom full of kindergartners sounds chaotic.” Cyrus could only imagine working with a bunch of children, as much as he loved children he couldn’t teach them. 

“Me? I’m a photographer for a blog, and I do sessions for people on occasion. I’m also supposed to start at the Bridge Cafe in North End tomorrow. I’m not entirely sure what that entails, they just seemed excited to have an applicant.”

Caroline laughed, nodding. It was nice to find a distraction from these kids’ papers, and she was only able to take so much at a time. A break was nice. She straightened up the papers and shoved them back into the folder, figuring she’d finish them later. It wasn’t all that important.

“I am a teacher, yes! This isn’t even for my own class, though. I just thought I’d be nice and offer to help. Not the best idea I’ve had so far.”

“That’s wicked sweet of you to help another teacher out.” He leaned against the table with a wide smile and his elbows resting on either side of his book. 

“Nice, what grade level or subject do you teach?” He hadn’t meant to interrupt her in all honesty but she had already packed her things away, no turning back now.

Eden didn’t even wait for an answer or permission, she’d barely even seen the person, just sat right down in the one empty space she could find in the cafe. “Sorry I just—” was all she got out before upturning the contents of her messenger bag, dumping an armada’s worth of art supplies to scatter on the counter. She frantically sifted through it but the longer she did the more agitated she got.

Cyrus went wide eyed at the sudden rush of art supplies that had just been spilled before him. Once he’d processed what had happened he pulled his book from the table and moved his coffee to the window sill while watched as she went through the contents of her bag, afraid to ask if she needed help or what she was looking for. “You okay there?”

Sneaking cups of coffee was technically against the rules or something but Charlie figured she made a better cup than anyone else, so she ought to get an extra reward for her skill. Besides didn’t the employee discount cover at least a few of her cups? It was always the coffee from older grounds or the coffee she got from multiple runs of the machine, that couldn’t be served to anyone anyways. Those small ways were how she told herself that she was okay to just sneak a cup. It was getting busier and her break wasn’t long enough to help her get through the days. “Thanks. I just need to borrow it for a few minutes.”

Cyrus noted that she worked there and figured she was either on break or getting ready to head home. Either way he could afford to have the seat across from him taken. “Don’t worry about it, I don’t have anyone coming to sit with me. New town means no friends.” He laughed and took a sip of his coffee.

Tessa didn’t usually go out for a cup of coffee, but after catching not a single second of sleep the night prior, she was in desperate need of caffeine if she wanted to survive another sleepless night. But The Beanery was incredibly busy, and with her hot cup of coffee in her hand, she searched for a free seat, finding only one of them. Waiting impatiently to be admitted onto the seat, she then slipped into it. “Thanks. Nice of you.” She mumbled, taking a sip of her coffee.

“No problem,” he mumbled as she sat down in what seemed like a bit of a huff. He didn’t say anything further as she took in the caffeine that everyone in the Beanery was looking for. He sipped at his now cold coffee, he needed an iced coffee before he could start his day. He looked to the line, it was long enough that he thought he could be back with little irritation at the wait.

“I’ll be right back, if you could save this seat for me I’d really appreciate it.” He placed his book on the table and set the coffee cup on the corner to keep his place. He’d be back in a minute or two so he wasn’t worried that she’d give up his seat.

Hannah wanted to stay busy, to keep her mind off things, to keep herself from pouring out a thousand text messages that weren’t apparently going to get answered. She’d woken up with the sun, meandering aimlessly around town till she realized that lack of sleep was catching up to her.

Normally she made it to the Beanery before the rush, but today she was caught in it, feeling exhausted and unfocused as she jostled around with the people desperate for that caffeine fix. It seemed like forever before she turned, a frozen caramel coffee in hand, looking around for an empty spot. There were a few open seats at tables with occupants…and she looked around for a specific target…someone who didn’t look super busy or grumpy.

And it seemed she made the right gut call, because the man she walked over to gave her a smile. Hannah breathed out with relief, sinking into the chair. “Thank you so much…I thought I was going to end up sort of squatting by the wall and tripping people.”

"It's not a problem at all. I'm glad you didn't have to resort to that because it sounds like a terrible way to start the day." He rested his cup of sugared down coffee on his knee and held a hand out to her in introduction. 

"I'm Cyrus, nice to meet you."

Getting to know her surroundings was one thing the young British girl had sought out to do at every free chance she had. With Allison in daycare, and her shift not starting until much later, Sienna was able to go out and finally get to know the place she was now calling home. - The blonde wandered around for well over a half hour before stopping at a small coffee shop. She was hesitant to go inside, given how busy she could see it was through the window. However, she did so nonetheless.

Walking inside, Sienna waited for the long line to shorten before ordering a small coffee, then turning to find a place to sit. Every place was practically full, but she had spotted one little seat across from a someone she didn’t even know. Timidly she headed over, and thought about sitting down with a hint of hesitance lingering through her. But when he began to speak, Sienna let small smile dance across her features and proceeded to sit down. “Thank you. - Didn’t realize this place got so busy like this. So thanks for that.”

“No problem.” He re-positioned the stuff he’d spread across the table to make room for her coffee. She had a nice accent, he didn’t comment on it though she probably got it pretty often and he knew that it got old when people asked him to say ‘park the car in the driveway’. 

 “I didn’t expect it to get so busy either, I’ve been here for like an hour, ha. I’m new in town so I guess this is out of the ordinary?” He sort of just expected everyone to have lived here longer than he had.

The silence was getting awkward, but Caroline didn’t mind much. As she was reading over a pretty bad assignment, she heard the man’s voice again and looked up, smiling at him.

“Caroline. Nice to meet you, Cyrus. Unique name. I like it.”

“Nice to meet you too, and thanks I give all credit to my mom.” It was nice to speak to someone, he hadn’t done a lot of talking besides his interview yet. She didn’t seem too disturbed by his attempt to speak up, and so he figured it was fair game to continue talking. 

“Are you a teacher? ---If not, that looks like a lot of papers.”
