I’ve been off Tumblr for quite some time. I’ve been working on some new stuff and moving away from writing fantasy. One of my big projects that I did for most of 2020 was to write Songwriter Night: A Musical Romance. In addition to being an author, I’m also an actress/director of theater here in the Nashville area. I was in the middle of rehearsals for Mamma Mia when theater got put on hold last year. Everyone got busy trying to figure out virtual ways to do shows, and I got a different kind of idea. What if I put my writing and performing worlds together and wrote a book that was also a musical and recorded it as an audiobook. I collaborated with a genius songwriter/composer here to write the 12 original songs that fit in the story. Then we hired a group of talented performers to record the songs and lines. It’s finished an in the world now, running about 3 hours in length.
The story is about Lyle and Trish, two aspiring Country music songwriters that meet-cute at a Nashville coffee house. With Trish being new in town, Lyle invites her to his monthly gathering of songwriters to get to know her better. The evening of quirky characters and light-hearted singing is interrupted by the arrival of Aiden Bronson. He’s got a hit song on the radio, and he’s back to show off, stirring up some rivalry while he’s at it. How will Lyle compete against Aiden’s charisma and talent in order to win Trish’s heart?
It’s available as an audiobook, but if you don’t like audiobooks, it’s also available as a regular book. Learn all about it, hear samples, meet the cast on my website: www.dgdriver.com/songwriter-night.html
