It doesn't work all that well and is pretty dorky, but omg am I amused. Let's see how long it keeps its entertainment value hehe...

Oh, how quick the transition
mmm but enough of the monologue, I have to say that my vacation was quite satisfying, if short. I feel like I didn't have enough time to just sit down and relax, but that also could be because I need a lot of time to recuperate, and I didn't quite find it this break. Which is an amazing thing, cause it means that I've been busy hanging out with people and doing something with my time.
What were some notable points of my vacation?
The Epcot center's Epcot Ball was so geometrically pleasant to the eye.
Universal Studio's water/movie/fireworks show was actually entertaining, with good selections for light-movie accompaniments.
Finally saw Blue Man Group live! More than half the things I already knew about, but their performance was still surprising and, of course, entertaining. It's cool to see how they could interact with the crowd (or at least awkwardly stare at us) until we understood what they wanted, however strange that request might be.
ermergerd so much food...
Woke up at 6 to watch the sunrise while at sea. Note that 1. this is 3 AM PST and the sun was mostly blocked by clouds T.T
Snorkeling in Haiti was alright. It's hard to get over those instincts to not take a breath underwater, especially when you have such an aversion to tasting sea water in your mouth.
Jamaica waterfall climbing would be a lot better if there weren't so many people, or if you went with a group that was faster and more daring. It has potential, especially if you can go with a rowdy group. Also, jerk pork is really good.
Lame, Grand Cayman had some moderately bad weather, and so I couldn't go scuba diving... Took a submarine instead, but that wasn't nearly as fun.
Visiting the Mayan ruins in Mexico was actually really fun, probably because our guide was super enthusiastic and there was usually a nice breeze blowing.
I have so many nice panoramics from this trip!
Ahhh, and now I'm back to Berkeley, ramping up towards the new school year. I'm certain it will be great.
Mickey Mousing and Firework Displays
Oh right, yea, I spent the day at the Epcot center, with this giant tessellated polyhedron looming over my head reminding me of that one time I attempted to make it out of 8.5" square sheets of paper which epically failed. No but really, it was an enjoyable time, as long as you go into it with the right mindset - not for thrilling rides but to experience some new views of culture. There was only one ride with any semblance of trying to be exciting that I went on, and it was pitiful in that regard. I do know that there was a Test Track attraction I didn't try though which is supposedly really good... but the wait time for that was > 2 hours. Many of the other rides was essentially a differently themed version of "It's a small world".... So yea, not where you would go if you were looking for roller-coasters and such.
On the other hand, the World Showcase was actually pretty cool and well done. The 11 countries were very well themed - you can tell that you're supposed to be in a certain place by the feel of each area, from the buildings to the people to music they played. Beautiful structures and recreations.
Too bad it was so cold today... and the food is a rip off. But other than that, good day.
Last day in Tino
Goodbye room, I'll see you again during break (or if I have a random appointment next semester).
Oh yea, I watched Sherlock last night. It was what you would expect from the series, but I wasn't quite satisfied at the end.
Day 365: And so, the year ends
First, a recap of my day. I had lunch at a pho place in Almaden with Mary, Lishan, and Z, but I was still a bit full from last night. Of course, the two young ladies couldn't completely finish their portions (although Lishan was pretty close), so Z was the finish off-er for the pho. We could tell which bowls he ate from because the broth was red from the sriracha he added in.
Then, we drove back to Cupertino to enjoy some PMT from Fantasia. Z and I secured the legit looking benches on the side - four seats surrounding a decently sized square table. This was the perfect spot for to play some sheng ji... which we did for almost 4 hours. Yes, we probably overstayed our welcome at Fantasia, but it's not like anyone complained and we were paying customers! Haha but yea, Lishan and I were a team and I had no idea how to play at first. We had some good rounds, but there were also a few where neither of us had many trumps or even high cards in general. Those were sad, sad times. It's especially difficult for me I guess because I don't like counting cards (well, high cards and voided suits anyways), even though I know it's super helpful for winning. I pretty much play off of gut instinct, which is kind of counter to my myers briggs I think...Yeaaa, I'm a little weird like that.
So after playing way too many card games, I had to leave to go home and go to a new years eve neighbors party thingy. mmm, lot's of food but I'm super awk haha, so all is normal.
Okay so. yea. this one post a day thing was really strange for me. I don't really like to express my thoughts, and especially not in some semi permanent place like the internet - that probably showed in my posts, as I did a lot of straight up recounting what happened during the day or a few complaining about how bored I was or any number of other "saduuu" moments I had or the occasional vague, I'm not really sure what's happening in my life post. Now I'm pretty sure I originally wanted some actual CONTENT and THINKING to go into these posts, but it's difficult for me to just think up of something on the spot to expand on or to remember something I was thinking about during the day. Well, another problem - I don't really think about important things during the day, but that's a whole different concern. Either way, by the time I actually sat down to type, I didn't really have much to say.
It's also strange because I have quite the aversion to reading things that I've written in the past - I tend to internally (and sometimes visibly) cringe cause I'm never satisfied with my work and don't really want to associate with that - so I'm not even sure I'll be reading these posts of mine anytime soon. I guess it's that whole ideas of oh this will probably be a great laugh for myself in 10 years, to see how I was back then (now?) Sure, this may be true, and on the off chance it is, well here's a year of my life on Tumblr... I'm very concerned that I won't understand at ALL what I'm referencing though in my writing, especially considering how terrible my memory is.
Now, onto my year. Honestly, over last winter break, I never thought that Koin would become such a large part of my life. I mean, yes, it was the fellowship I joined, it is the group of people I would grow with along my spiritual journey, but the degree that I've invested in the people and this whole vision is much greater than what I've done previously. I'm very much of a loner and introvert, and I might have been perfectly fine living my whole life... separate. It's not that I would reject company or people, but I could very well see myself not seeking it out. And for those who don't seek out and make time for their friends... their friends slowly start dwindling away. But I would be fine with it - engrossed in doing my own thing and just cruising through life. In a sense, I think I could still live like this, not noticing the time flowing by me. But now, I would be sad, unfulfilled, lonely. My brothers in Koin have brought so much joy into my life.
I'm just amazed at how God worked all things out this way, even making use of my terrible Spring 2013 class schedule. If you look at it, it looks like a checkerboard, no joke. The 4 classes I had had MWF lectures spanning from 8 AM to 5:30 PM, with 1.5 - 3 hours in between, and the last three were all in Wheeler/Dwinelle. If the only place I could go was back up to Foothill between lectures, I would have gone INSANE (or become quite fit). In even this, God blessed, as I discovered the joys of hanging out in DL. That is where I met most of the upperclassmen that I know; that is where I first met the other frosh, first became friends with them; that is where I learned to relax and socialize.
We had a group of Foothill DL bums that went back up from DL to the dorms almost every night around 12, staying together as a pack, bonding, getting late night every now and then. I found people to study with, and also a reason to study (yes, the two correlate). Those late nights and early mornings at the FH meeting rooms during dead week man... and hanging out in the rec room... we worked and we played. I remember one night when we were just at the rec room, I think some people may have been playing games, but Hallie had an essay due, so she was working through the night. And for some reason, Aikido, Nnifer, Serena, and I decided to just chill there too. Yea... that wasn't exactly the smartest idea because 1. everyone but Aikido and I just ended up falling asleep so like no work was done and 2. we were totally not focused the next day. Well, to be fair I decided to go to sleep at 7 in the morning and skipped my classes but anywayssss. Haha we did some dumb stuff like that. Good times.
Summer came, summer went, I got the briefest taste of what living in Benv was like before I moved out and up to N side. It was a joyful time, I gained a lot of confidence in my abilities and also grew closer to those who were in Berkeley for the summer. It was long enough for me to really enjoy the time while not being long enough to also feel the pains of personality clashes with the people living so close. It was a simple time.
And then it all came crashing down when suffer-more year started. Nah, that's totally incorrect, especially as I've really enjoyed this past semester. I don't know if I want to write too much about it yet, as I'm very much still trying to understand where I want to be in the context of all that's happened. Make no mistake, I can see the joy even in the pain and drama, and I would still say that this semester has been the most enjoyable so far. Even though I've begun to struggle with a few things and I'm trying to understand where I want to move towards from here, I have no doubts in the truth that God directs my steps and shapes my path. There is a reason for the trials and temptations today, and I would be a fool to dwell so much on something that is of so little importance. I am so curious as to what will happen this coming year - what are the little decisions that I'll make or that I'll be swept up in? There is very much that can happen in a year.
hmmm, I don't think I'll continue documenting day by day though, which will be a strange experience. It's just too much work to schedule posts beforehand when I know I'm going to be away from wifi, or to post late at night when I would rather be sleeping. Maybe I'll continue to write about random stuff semi regularly, maybe I won't. 2014 is a new year, and I'm so pumped for it to come.
Day 364: NorCal Soph Hangout
So at 10:30, I set of for Paly, thinking that it would take 1.5 hrs with traffic to reach the far end and back. Little did I know the return trip would only take 20 minutes and not 40... annnnnd so we were actually early to an event, which is quite the miracle! We started the day off with 70 wingstop wings, which isn't too much for 8 guys. It was so good to see them again. It was quite scary to see Matt finish his large Verde PMT in just a few swigs though... and then pull out 2 more large ones...
Afterwards, we went to Villa Montalvo, and pretty much hiked the dinky 1 mi trail up to the top and back. It was such an easy and relaxing hike, but we weren't really sure what to do afterwards. . . and so we went to watch Frozen again. I mean to be fair 3/8 of us hadn't seen it yet, and the rest of us were willing to rewatch it. I think was actually more entertaining the second time cause I could enjoy the really fun parts. mmm but yea, were wanted to do something semi-strenuous so we could prep for AYCE sushi... but I guess we're just not very active.
We were kind of worried that we wouldn't be hungry enough to eat our money's worth at Kenzo, but (semi)thankfully, we didn't get seated for like 40 minutes plus. The sushi was so good though and we def ate our fill... well without going overboard cause we still have to drive. 30+ rolls plus other stuff on the side, 2.5 hrs. I think if there weren't so many people, we could have eaten even more, but the wait in between rounds was wayyy to long.
Man, it almost felt like I was in Berkeley again.
Day 363: The year's almost over and that's weird
Did important stuff during the day. huh, it's the last time I'm at my home church for a while eh? I won't be seeing some of them until summer or afterwards. mehhh :\
Dinner with Darren - omg the wait was so long and I was so hungry but the food was like traditional Shanghai cuisine so it was pretty good. Yea my mind is a bit frazzled right now so perhaps it's time to sleep.
Edit: Dang.. I drank a ton of tea during dinner. This is bad.
Day 362: streeeeeeesssss
Day 361: I do enjoy card games
We then played a variation on hearts with more ways to lose points... I reached a thousand in 3 turns omg... The second time we played, I accidentally shot for the moon, which was pretty sweet. Oh, that time was also over in 3 rounds, with KQiao losing like 800 points in the last round... brutal game.
Besides that, read my book and had 3 time consuming conversations that required 3 different mindsets and was slightly overwhelming. Oh, it also pushed back my schedule for the night LOL I need to get on that resume...
Day 360: Frozen was solid
It was kinda embarrassing though, cause we walked into both of our original choices for lunch... and then walked out soon after for various reasons. We ended up having tacos for lunch, which was pretty good actually!. Frozen though, was really good. Didn't expect so much singing, but wasn't put off by it either. It was quite the feel good movie.
I got the stuff I ordered for my powerglove.... but the circuitboard of the mouse I bought was way too restrictive and didn't allow me to apply the modifications necessary... :( also I kinda brute forced it open and destroyed it in the process.... whoops, there goes a kinda nice mouse that I guess I wouldn't actually ever use cause my mice now are really good. So.. that project is on hold.
Also, if you're reading this DShan then you're a butt... haha jkay jkay enjoy my ramblings :P
Day 359: Hai guys, Merry Christmas!
Day 358: Christmas Eve!
Tried to set up for my upcoming forays into iOS and Android dev = downloading lots of stuff. Also, almost done reading.
Some family friends came over for dinner, so there was good food and much company. We were so bored though, that we began modifying the rules of spoons so that the winner could throw the spoons, or hide them, or like the losers would have to do some challenge like build a teepee from the cards. It was hilarious and odd.
Day 357: Full of planning
Also, met with Matt today and realized that we both have pretty much no idea how to start this app thingy. We decided to just each try doing some coding in both iOS and Android, and see how we like it. LOL I wonder how that will go.
OMG I drove for like 5 min w/o my headlights on on accident and errrr, the cops started following me. but ofc I was just let go when they saw that I was just a forgetful driver and not a menace to the roads... whoops
Day 356: Relaxing
I learned that the first book I decided to read was a 400 page, dense monster, so there are a LOT of words and concepts for me to take in. It's quite the book to finish, and so we'll see if I can complete it tomorrow. Besides reading, I watched some videos, currently trying to catch up on sing off, and updated myself on news. Busy-ness starts tomorrow.
Edit: well that wasn't quite the end I expected of this day o.o
At 10:12, I was just minding my own business, thinking about whether I wanted to try making a mouse out of one of my gloves when I get a call from Lishan telling me to meet her and Mary at Verde in 20 min... apparently if I went there then Z would be there too. And so I went, and when I got there, we discovered that Z wasn't planning on coming. And so Lishan threatened to find his address and drag him over here.
Well, we did end up driving to his place (after finding his addr from one of my chats), and picked up a slightly confused, slightly annoyed Z. When we drove back to the plaza, it was a few minutes past 11... and we found out that Verde had just closed... Frantic searching on Yelp revealed that pretty much everything was closed for Sunday night, except for a few fast food places. In despair, we roamed towards Vallco, only to walk through Sears and Macy's, unable to find either food or a good movie to watch (AMC box office was closed).
It turns out that Mary's car had a watermelon, some rice cakes, and truffles in the back, so we then headed to my house to cut up some watermelon. LOL parents were already asleep, so we chilled and chatted a little. Z was slightly unamused, but I thought this whole thing was quite hilarious.
Oh yea, I just ordered the things I need for my mouse-gloves. In 2 days, we'll see how that turns out :D
Day 355: 4:30-10:30
With what was left of the morning, I packed and watched YouTube. At 2, my parents came to pick us up to go back hooommmeeeeee. I was super tired on the car, but I couldn't take a nap even if I wanted to... I'm not sure what it was but being in my bed made me less sleepy. And so I read.
Parents bought a DSLR. It takes pretty photos. Anyways, there's not enough time during break to do everything I want to do... mostly because it includes 0.5 - 1 week of bumming around, which I can't afford to place in my schedule.
I wonder what other people are doing this break.
Day 354: Done done done
I then chilled and bummed at dl for the rest of the time, until 3 when ppl went to go play tennis. Originally, i wasn’t planning on playing at all, just sit there and maybe nap a bit… But then bchan came and he told me to play with him. I was def not good enough to be rallying with him, but he had such patience. So yea, i played till 5:30 and it was so weird. Started to enjoy near the end, even tho I’m still really bad.
Anyways, about to go to hb for tfn, with laser tag and hobbit afterwards =P
Edit: The Hobbit was hilarious. So many awk moments and dumb scenes. Also, we gave Aikido his Christmas present today - a bike from his peers to replace the one that was stolen from him earlier this year. It was heartwarming, especially in the delirium of 2 AM. It was also great cause he literally walked partially into apt 8 a few times today and never noticed it. He was quite surprised, to say the least.
Day 353: Dat 61c studying
Mmm but yea, during the course of the day I got to evaluate a bit on the efficiency and effectiveness of various methods of studying... and I'm quite curious if I will actually be able to study like this in such a large group next semester in 170. That sure will be interesting. Although, super happy that I'm finally in EE20! They opened up the lab sections quite a bit so I finally have my two technicals.
Still feeling sick and I have a canker sore on the back left edge of my tongue.... I'm pretty sure it's the medicine that's doing it.. ugh.
Our 8 bit Mario block lamp came!!!! Haha it's such a novelty item but so cool. I mean, also kinda annoying and I'm sure won't be that interesting in a little bit, but it's a conversation starter and I think fits well with our interests.
