Now, I have looked up your posts about prepositions and read through it but I just wanted to try and clarify it in my own head (because the post was super long and me being me skim reads whoops).
So prepositions ending in ‘o’ refer to me, ‘a’ refers to a feminine noun, ‘o’ refers to a masculine noun, ‘il’ refers to the so stating ‘the man = all'uomo’ but I’m not just sure about the other two. What would ‘gli’ and 'le’ refer to?
Have I got these correct or is my understanding of prepositions totally off? haha thank you!
@ly–canthrope The preposizioni articolate work as the articles they are built with so you better start with the articles probably and check the end of the post to give a first look at prepositions. Then look at the “longer” post again.
I’m sorry though but I don’t understand your view of the prepositions… I mean I don’t get why ending in ‘o’ refer to the subject/me?
to the man = all’uomo (preposition), the man=l’uomo (only article)
I guess you mean this though, to shorten the story: articles il,lo,l’ are generally used for singular masculine nouns; la,l’ for singular feminine nouns; i,gli for plural masculine nouns; le for plural feminine nouns. The choice of the article is done according on how the noun starts (vowels/consonants and which ones). So prepositions follow the same rules of the article they end/appear with.
ex.
lo zaino -> dello zaino (the backpack / of the backpack)
gli zaini -> degli zaini (the backpacks / of the backpacks)
l’anima -> con l’anima (the soul / with the soul)
le anime -> con le anime (the souls / with the souls)
Anyway, I’m sorry but if you want to use articles and prepositions correctly you have to read the whole post and study it. We italians did that in school and had no choice… sorry to sound rude, but that’s it. I suggest you again to start with articles and then study prepositions, it might be easier.
