two weeks and carson still felt out of touch with realty- with her whole situation. her life was not longer her own. she couldn’t even go by her own name. nothing felt real. she was doing her best to keep up appearance but it was hard when she could only fall back on faux facts that had been drilled into her and not the truth of her life. keeping to herself helped some, but it was also surprisingly lonely. perhaps this is what she gets for ratting out her father. still worth it, her mind whispered as she climbed the steps of the motel. yeah, it was still worth it.
as she moved further down the hall of the hotel, she looked down to begin her search for her keys. carefully juggling the books in her arms, her search for her key was a much more attention consuming act that she originally predicted. she should have stopped or slowed down but she had been certain she’d been the only one in the hall. she was clearly proven wrong when she ended up running into someone- the four books she’d been carrying tumbled to the ground. she’d barely managed to get a good grasp on her purse, keeping it from falling and scattering miscellaneous items across the hall. “i’m really sorry.” her apology came right away, genuine remorse in her tone. “i- i wasn’t paying attention,” she mumbled, glancing at the individual who’d had the misfortune of getting run over as she struggled to shut her purse. she’d startled herself an embarrassing amount, heart still beating a bit aggressively against her ribs.
it was as if daxton had been lost in his thoughts for the past week, unsure of how he managed to put up with his life before escaping and hiding within the cramped and dirty walls of this motel.his life still existed back down south of the state; his family, his fiance, friends.. everybody who he knew, he had left behind; and for what? cold feet? the inability to commit to some stupid ceremony of marriage? was he a coward or was he brave? truth be told, seen days had past and daxton reyes did not know who he was anymore, but whether that was a good thing or not - he can’t figure it out. he just can’t figure anything out.
he wasn’t even thinking straight as he ran into the small brunette, his face flushing with a bright red tinge as he instantly fell to the flaw to gather her scattered items. he internally cursed himself before handing them over to her, his head shaking in somewhat disapproval of her apology, “ no no, don’t. it’s fine, i was in a daze anyway. shit, sorry i made you drop all this..” he started as he then gathered her books, not wanting to waste a second reading the covers in case he was caught prying. “seriously though, don;t worry about it. i drop shit all the time, i know what it’s like.”
