Starbursts in the wake of a fleeting romance
This image shows galaxy NGC 4485 in the constellation of Canes Venatici (The Hunting Dogs). The galaxy is irregular in shape, but it hasn’t always been so. Part of NGC 4485 has been dragged towards a second galaxy, named NGC 4490 — which lies out of frame to the bottom right of this image.
Between them, these two galaxies make up a galaxy pair called Arp 269. Their interactions have warped them both, turning them from spiral galaxies into irregular ones. NGC 4485 is the smaller galaxy in this pair, which provides a fantastic real-world example for astronomers to compare to their computer models of galactic collisions. The most intense interaction between these two galaxies is all but over; they have made their closest approach and are now separating. The trail of bright stars and knotty orange clumps that we see here extending out from NGC 4485 is all that connects them — a trail that spans some 24 000 light-years.
Many of the stars in this connecting trail could never have existed without the galaxies’ fleeting romance. When galaxies interact hydrogen gas is shared between them, triggering intense bursts of star formation. The orange knots of light in this image are examples of such regions, clouded with gas and dust.

We are loving this new collection from Damien Ravn for S/S2014. Damien is based in Belgium after studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp. His S/S2014 collection 'Gamut' was selected by ELLE Belgique to be presented during the ELLE x BFD2013 show in October.
Love the sharpness of the garments, over sized and elegant.

Better late than never! We headed to Vogue's Fashion night out in Manchester city center a couple of weeks ago and had a little look around to see what we could find. It was a fantastic turn out, although there didn't seem to be that many people buying clothes or even looking at the clothes it felt like everyone was there just for the free hand outs. That is all well but what has happened to going and looking at what people have to offer, and looking at what the different designers are up to. Or even heading out for inspiration as i know there would have been a fair amount of fashion students wandering around the shops and streets that night.
We headed to Cath Kidston they had our friends Pin ups in Pinnies serving alcoholic jellies and a lovely little lady upstairs reading tea leaves, my friends Alex who runs the jelly & cake company had nearly sold out and i am not surprised as they were amazing!
We then headed over to the Vivienne Westwood store to have a little look at the collaboration between Vivienne and the Cambridge satchel company and we were not disappointed! They looked amazing, personal favorite has to be the white and red smaller satchel, this is on my Christmas list and i hope that it will under my tree come December!
Check out our new online shop....with new items coming soon.
