Hermann Hesse Drawing Outdoors

I just watched this documentary on youtube called “Hermann Hesse's Long Summer”. It’s really good.

I’ve been a fan of Hesse since I was a teenager. I haven’t read all his books, only Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, and Narcissus and Goldmund. Yesterday when I went to the library I borrowed “The Journey to the East” which looks quite short so hopefully I can read it at work.

I also borrowed “Death in Venice and other stories” by Thomas Mann. I haven’t read anything by him before... I’ve watched half the film of Death in Venice. I feel the book will be more engaging. I was going to borrow “Magic Mountain” but it looks huge and intense so I might get into that another time.

I did this painting inspired by the illustrations of the Chinese text Shan Hai Jing (classic of mountain and seas) I had to give a presentation on a video piece at work inspired by this ancient text by artist called qiu anxiong. Everyone at work liked and was impressed by my presentation including this woman called Luise Guest who wrote this book on contemporary female Chinese artists called Half the Sky. I felt proud and happy despite being nervous leading up to it and being the final person to present.
