Rewatched Daeron and Ormund's scenes together in episode 4 and I have to say that I find their dynamic to be really fascinating.

Obviously with the nature of F&B as an in-universe history book their isn't a lot to actually go off of regarding their dynamic and what Ormund's personality was like. We know what they did during the war and a bit before that along with Daeron's personality prior to it as well, but that's basically it. Because the writers chose not to introduce Daeron in season one this episode had to act as his official introduction in the show after being an unnamed squire in episode one. They also had to continue building up Ormund as an opposing force because at this point in F&B, he and Daeron were the main threats to Rhaenyra's rule.

With all that being said, I really do think that the writers went with a fascinating route. Daeron calls him "sire," a word that means both "father" and "lord," which basically positions Ormund as his primary authority figure. He's also been raised by him since he was a baby, which is obviously an in-universe excuse the writers gave to not have him or Ormund in the show till now.

But just because Ormund's raised him since he was little doesn't mean that their relationship is a very good one. Their dynamic is clearly abusive. Daeron very clearly recognizes when Ormund is about to fly into a rage, which means that this likely happened at least semi-regularly back in Oldtown or while they were on the march to Tumbleton. Ormund also hates Daeron's Targaryen side (which could further lends credence to the theory that Daeron's hair is dyed), including not wanting him to be around Tessarion. He uses the fact that he raised Daeron against him as a manipulation tactic.

I liked that they had Tessarion try and protect Daeron as well.

I will be interested to see how their dynamic develops in the rest of the season going forward, especially now that Ormund wants Daeron to be king.

We already know that Daeron is going to be in episode 4 thanks to Steve posting the character list back when they were doing the table read for it, and I'm curious as to how they're going to handle his official introduction.

The audience has technically already seen him so I wonder how the show is going to reveal the fact that the random squire boy we met in the first episode of the season is Daeron.

The fact is no one actually asked Ormund to bring his army, last season Alicent jumped into a lake in her pristine white shift no soap no shampoo no volumizing conditioner and Ormund immediately sensed it and started marching because under the light of the seven that’s illegal. Hightowers lose 9 servants a day because Ormund has Tessarion on a strict regime of two baths daily (yes they do have to brush her teeth every time) and if anybody gets a single goddamn fingerprint on that dragon’s freshly shined scales he will be making it 10

In my head, the modern au version of Ormund Hightower would be a man who owned several businesses, his prized one being his chain of salons that were once run by his mother
