Y'all ever think about how old Dara is? Like- has it ever truly sunk in for anyone else?
Dialects and languages change severely over the amount of time that he's been around.
Imagine a historically logic accurate Dara reacting to the new dialects of Divasti, Djinnistani, and every language he's ever heard, AND the multitude of languages NOBODY speaks anymore that only Nahids would understand at that point.
My personal headcanon is that he would probably sound Shakespearean as hell. He talks like the Bible.
"What is this... new aged slang that thou hath chosen to curse my ears with hence?" Or whatever he would say if that's even grammatically correct
Everybody has to listen to him talk and they're immediately reminded that he's been around long enough to have seen entire societies collapse on themselves and disappear.

Thinking about Magic Henna (Mehndi)
Designs that move and dance across the skin in accordance to the wearer’s emotions. Fire-enchanted henna that glows black and red and gold like embers shining from inside the skin. Enchanted henna in general that glows any color you want it to, and changes colors to always match your outfit :)
The most natural henna pastes that have a greenish hue, when brewed with magic create an olive greenish brown stain that amplifies your connection to plant magic (a literal green thumb). Common among serious gardeners and farmers. In practice, the magic crawls under your skin like vines… or insects. The plants beneath your fingertips seem to breathe in time with you. The burning bright sun seems to make you stronger… for a while. The patterns painted on your hands glow like sunlight filtering through spring leaves.
Blue henna (Jagua) that feels like a cool stream running beneath the patterns on your skin. Some traditionalist Djinn look down on it for amplifying a connection to water magic, but that hasn’t been proven or disproven. The dark patterns like a whisper of something waiting beneath the surface for any who dare to seek it. It does keep you cool on a hot day though.
Black henna, that chemical stuff that you find at parties. It stains dark and fast, but stings before it ever dries. Great for a quick boost of fire magic, but it’s like using a flamethrower to light a candle. The lines glow as dark as blood and the power bubbles beneath your skin screaming to escape. As a creature of fire you’d almost forgotten what it felt like to burn. There will be collateral damage to yourself and your surroundings. A common performance enhancer.
Hiding your lover’s name in your henna and having it glow for your eyes only when you think of them. Touching their name gently and having them feel a sense of warmth and comfort wherever they are.

I want to know what happened to Dara when he woke up in that field.
finally free from slavery, but so dazed and disoriented that he barely remembers his own name. I can't remember where it is but I swear there's a passage where he talked about how at first he kept trying to make weapons before ever trying to make food. How when Khayzur asked him who he was, all he could remember was "I am an Afshin" (Even though he'd been exiled from Daevabad for at least a decade prior to his death).
What must that have been like? To wake up alone and confused, knowing deep in your soul only that you are part of SOMETHING. You have a family, a duty, but they're all gone. How did he learn? How did he take it when it sank in that he not only failed to protect his own family and he failed to retake his city, but that his entire Afshin clan, the Nahids he was raised from birth to worship, and the very FABRIC OF HIS REALITY were all WIPED OUT (either by Zaydi's forces or the natural passage of 1400 years). Nothing but a distant memory for the past millenium and a half. Everyone and everything he ever knew and loved, gone.
And with a full TWENTY years before being summoned to Nahri in that graveyard in Cairo, what made him decide NOT to accept this a fresh start? What was his purpose in life before being granted a shred of hope that the Nahids might live on?
What was he doing with his life?? There's no way Khayzur was the only being he spoke to for a full two decades, right? I don't think he was even planning to go back to Daevabad before meeting Nahri. What happened???
Dara needs a spin off series is all I'm saying

I really think it needs to be addressed more that Dara is a horse girl. The fact that in The Kingdom of Copper, he blatantly stated he would rather be talking about HORSES of all things, rather than make enemies shows just how much he enjoys horses.
I have no doubt in my mind that in his prime (when he was alive), he had a favorite horse whom he befriended, talked to, and sought comfort in. I know for a FACT this is the case.
Is this not what happened between Dara and Manizheh in The Empire of Gold

like my hyperfixation on the daevabad trilogy is so bad to the point i literally have heart aches whenever i think of them, they live in my mind every single day. also i have a spotify playlist for it and it hurts me whenever i listen to it ☹️☹️☹️
